  14. $1Using the Remote Control Panel
  15. By using the Remote Control Panel,
  16. you can see and set most printer settings
  17. on your computer display.
  18.  
  19. If you prefer to use the keyboard instead of
  20. a mouse, use the keys shown below.
  21. Tab                 move to the next setting
  22. Shift + Tab    move to the previous setting
  23. Alt                    make selections for options with

  29. # MenuItem
  30. $1File Menu
  31. Use this menu to get information on file or printer
  32. settings, to change settings in a file or the printer,
  33. or to exit from the Remote Control Panel.
  34.  
  35. $1Load Config File...
  36. This item selects a configuration file from among
  37. files saved with the extension .ECF. When you
  38. choose this item, a dialog box appears. After you
  39. select a file and click OK, the file's settings are
  40. displayed as the current settings in the Remote
  41. Control Panel.
  42.  
  43. $1Save
  44. This item saves the current settings under the
  45. currently opened file name. If no file has been
  46. loaded, it switches to Save As and prompts you for
  47. a file name.
  48.  
  49. $1Save As...
  50. This item saves the current settings under the file
  51. name you specify. When you choose this item,
  52. a dialog box appears, prompting you for a file name.
  53. After you enter a name and click OK, the current
  54. settings are stored in the new file.
  55.  
  56. $1Send to Printer
  57. This item sends the current settings displayed in
  58. the Remote Control Panel to the printer; the printer
  59. settings then change to these new settings.
  60. You can also click Send to send the settings to the
  61. printer.
  62.  
  63. $1Update from Printer
  64. This item retrieves the current printer settings and
  65. displays them as the current settings in the Remote
  66. Control Panel.
  67.  
  68. $1Print Status Sheet
  69. This item prints out the status sheet.
  70.  
  71. $1Print LJ4 Font Sheet
  72. This item prints out the font sample sheet in
  73. LaserJet4 Mode.
  74.  
  75. $1Print PS Font Sheet
  76. This item prints out the font sample sheet in
  77. EPSONScript Level 2 Mode. This item appears only
  78. when the EPSONScript Level 2 SIMM is installed in
  79. the printer.

  82. This item prints out the font sample sheet in
  83. ESCP2 Mode.

  86. This item prints out the font sample sheet in

  90. This item prints out the font sample sheet in

  94. This item sets the current printer settings to
  95. their original factory settings.

  98. This item ends the setting process and exits from
  99. the Remote Control Panel. You can also click the
  100. EXIT button to exit.

  102. $1Emulation
  103. This menu selects the printer emulation for the
  104. current interface. When the printer emulation
  105. changes, all downloaded font data and settings are
  106. lost.

  108. $1LaserJet 4
  109. This option sets the printer emulation to LaserJet 4.

  111. $1EPSONScript Level 2
  112. This option sets the printer emulation to EPSONScript
  113. Level 2. This option appears only when the
  114. EPSONScript Level 2 kit is installed in the printer.

  116. $1ESCP2
  117. This option sets the printer emulation to ESCP2.
  118.  
  119. $1FX
  120. This option sets the printer emulation to FX.
  121.  
  122. $1I239X
  123. This option sets the printer emulation to I239X.
  124.  
  125. $1EPSON GL2
  126. This option sets the printer emulation to EPSON GL2.
  127. Following settings affect EPSON GL2 mode printings:
  128. Page Setup;
  129.  Page Size, Copies, Form, Paper Feed
  130. Printer Setup;
  131.  Page Protect, Resolution, RITech, Density,
  132.  Auto Continue,Toner Save Mode
  133. More;
  134.  Top Offset, Left Offset, Standby,Timeout,
  135.  Paper Size Ignore

  137. Note:
  138. There is no individual setting window for EPSON GL2.
  139.  
  140. $1Auto
  141. This option sets the printer emulation to Auto.
  142.  
  143. $1Other
  144. This option shows that the other emulation is selected.
  145. This option is indication only and can not be selected.
  146.  
  147. $1Language
  148. This item selects the language for the  panel display
  149. and Status Sheet.
  150.  
  151. # PageSetup
  152. In Page Setup, you can set page configuration items
  153. such as the number of copies and lines per page.
  154. The printer driver can also make these settings;
  155. the driver's settings override the Remote Control
  156. Panel settings.
  157.  
  158. $1Page Size
  159. This item selects the paper size from the list
  160. shown below.
  161.     A4, Letter, Legal, Executive, Monarch,
  162.     Commercial 10, DL, C5, International B5, A5,
  163.     Half Letter, Government Letter, Government Legal,
  164.     F4, C6, B5, Custom
  165.  
  166. $1Copies
  167. This item selects the number of copies to be printed,
  168. up to 999. If you select a number greater than one,
  169. the display shows the number of copies completed
  170. and the current setting.
  171.  
  172. $1Form
  173. This item selects the number of lines for the
  174. selected paper size and orientation, ranging from
  175. 5 to 128. A change in this setting also causes a
  176. change in line spacing (Vertical Motion Index),
  177. and the new VMI value is stored in the printer.
  178. Later changes to the Page Size or the Orientation
  179. also cause changes in the Form value, based on the
  180. stored VMI value.
  181. This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode.
  182.  
  183. $1Orientation
  184. This item selects  the direction in which characters
  185. or images are printed on a page. Portrait or
  186. landscape is available.
  187.  
  188. $1Paper Feed
  189. This item selects paper feed method or paper source.
  190. In manual feed mode, the printer goes off line 
  191. after each page of data is received.
  192. To continue printing, insert a new sheet of paper 
  193. in MP tray and press the Online Switch.
  194. When sets to Automatic,supply paper from the paper source 
  195. holding paper of the size specified by Page Size.
  196.  
  197. # Type
  198. Using Type, you can set font related items.
  199. The printer driver can also make these settings;
  200. the driver's settings override the Remote Control
  201. Panel settings.
  202. This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode.
  203.  
  204. $1Typeface
  205. This item selects any typeface available in the
  206. printer, including built-in,download Font SIMM
  207. typefaces.
  208. In the typeface list, a download typeface is
  209. followed by (DOWN) and a Font SIMM typeface is
  210. followed by (SIMM).
  211.  
  212. $1Point Size or Pitch
  213. This item selects the character point size or the
  214. pitch of fixed-pitch characters.
  215.  
  216. $1Symbol Set
  217. This item selects a symbol set from those available
  218. for the typeface you selected.
  219.  
  220. # Others
  221. Using others,you can set up your printer to operate
  222. in ESCP2,FX or I239X Mode emulation.
  223. This option is valid in ESCP2, FX and I239X Mode.
  224.  
  225. $1Condensed (Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
  226. Select normal/condensed charcter size.
  227. When set to Off, selects normal character size.
  228. When set to On, selects condensed character size.
  229.  
  230. $1T Margin
  231. Sets/displays the distance between the top of the
  232. page and the baseline position of first line of
  233. printing.
  234.  
  235. $1Text
  236. Sets or display the lines-per-page value.
  237. The calculation always assumes that line height is
  238. 1/6 inch, regardless of the current line-height
  239. setting.
  240.  
  241. $1Auto CR
  242. This function moves the current print position to
  243. the left margine of the current line.
  244. Use when print position passees right margin.
  245. When set to On, executes carriage return and line
  246. feed when print position passees right margin.
  247. When set to Off, no automatic carriage return when
  248. print position passees right margin ; print position
  249. can advance to 16 inches regardless of right margin
  250. setting.
  251.  
  252. $1Auto LF
  253. Switches CR(carriage return) command function.
  254. When set to Off, printer considers that only
  255. CR(carriage return) command was sent.
  256. When set to On, printer considers that only CR
  257. (carriage return) +  LF(Line Feed) command were
  258. sent.
  259.  
  260. $1Bit Image(Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
  261. Selects bit image.
  262. When Dark is selected, emulates the resolution of
  263. bit image correctly. High density.
  264. When Light is selected, emulates the resolution of
  265. bit image correctly. Low density.
  266. When Barcode is selected, used in image printing of
  267. barcode. 
  268.  
  269. $1Zero Char
  270. Selects a zero character. "/"(slash) of character
  271. "0" does not exist.
  272. Selects a slashed zero character. "/"(slash) of
  273. character "0" does exist.
  274.  
  275. $1Alt.Graphics (Only I239X Mode)
  276. Alt.Graphics is an abbreviation of Alternate Graphics
  277. Mode which enables the command function
  278. equivalent to EPSON LQ/570, LQ/1070. Alt.Graphics
  279. can be set on the panel, but cannot be set by a
  280. command.
  281. When set to Off, not support EPSON Mode.
  282. When set to on, supports EPSON Mode.
  283.  
  284. $1Character Set (Only I239X Mode)
  285. Defines the upper control code.
  286. When sets to 1,specifies the character codes 80h to 9Fh
  287. as control code 00h to 1Fh.
  288. When sets to 2,specifies the character codes 80h to 9Fh
  289. as normal characters.

  291. # PrinterSetup
  292. In this category, you can set items that affect
  293. printer performance. The printer driver can set most
  294. of these settings; the driver's settings override
  295. the Remote Control Panel settings.
  296.  
  297. $1Page Protect
  298. The printer allocates enough memory to produce
  299. the entire page image for the paper size selected
  300. in this item. The options are On and Auto.However,
  301. the Auto setting is sufficient for most print jobs.
  302.  
  303. $1Resolution
  304. This item switches the resolution between 300 and 
  305. 600 dpi.
  306.  
  307. $1RITech
  308. RITech (Resolution Improvement Technology)
  309. produces smoother and crisper lines, text, and
  310. graphics. If you change this setting, you can check
  311. the print quality by printing a Status Sheet.
  312.  
  313. $1Density
  314. Use this option to adjust the print density if your
  315. print is too light or too dark.
  316.  
  317. $1Auto Continue
  318. This item permits the printer to automatically
  319. continue printing after an error occurs. When this
  320. option is off, you must press the Continue button
  321. to resume printing. In most cases, you should leave
  322. this option set to Off.
  323.  
  324. $1Toner Save Mode
  325. Use this option to reduce the amount of toner that
  326. your printer uses on each page by up to 50 percent.
  327. The Toner Save Mode can be used as a draft mode
  328. to extend the life of your toner cartridge.
  329.  
  330. $1Image Optimum
  331. Use this option to print complex graphics with
  332. limited printer memory. If your page requires more
  333. memory to print than you have available in your
  334. printer, the printer will use Image Optimum to make
  335. very small modifications to the image to form it
  336. within available printer memory.

  338. # More
  339. In this category, you can set the following items;
  340.  
  341. $1Top Offset
  342. Allows you to adjust the vertical printing position
  343. on the page. The setting is in millimeter.
  344. You can raise or lower the printing position
  345. by 0.5mm step(the settings are from -9 to 99).
  346.  
  347. $1Left Offset
  348. Allows you to adjust the horizonatal printing position
  349. on the page. The setting is in millimeter.
  350. You can move to left or right the printing position 
  351. by 0.5mm step(the settings are from -9 to 99).
  352.  
  353. $1Standby
  354. This option saves power by reducing the power to
  355. the fuser if the printer receives no data for
  356. 30 minutes. In this mode, the printer begins
  357. warming up as soon as you send any data, and is
  358. ready to print within 60 seconds.
  359.  
  360. $1Timeout
  361. If the printer receives no data for some period
  362. which specified in Timeout, the printer feeds paper
  363. automatically and if I/F or Language is changed,
  364. printer mode will be moved to the default mode.
  365. Timeout will be set 0 or within 5-300 sec (1sec step).
  366. When sets to 0, it means no timeout.
  367.  
  368. $1Paper Size Ignore
  369. Enables or disables "Paper Set..." error and
  370. "Check Paper Size".
  371. When sets to On,above statuses are ignored.
  372. When sets to Off,above statuses are detected.
  373.  
  374. $1Source Symbol Set (Only LJ4 Mode)
  375. This option sets the replacement source Symbol Set
  376. value transmitted from the application.
  377. This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode with
  378. the specific option font ROM installed in the printer.
  379.  
  380. $1Destination Symbol Set (Only LJ4 Mode)
  381. This option sets the replacement destination Symbol
  382. Set value in the printer.
  383. This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode with
  384. the specific option font ROM installed in the printer.

  386. $1Country (Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
  387. Selects international characters.
  388.  
  389. $1CG Table (Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
  390. Selects character set table.
  391.  
  392. $1Code Page (Only I239X Mode)
  393. Selects code pages.

  395. # ScriptError
  396. This option tells the printer to print out an error
  397. sheet when an error occurs in EPSONScript Level 2.
  398. This option is valid only in the EPSONScript Level2
  399. Mode.
