$1Using the Remote Control Panel
By using the Remote Control Panel,
you can see and set most printer settings
on your computer display.
If you prefer to use the keyboard instead of
a mouse, use the keys shown below.
Tab move to the next setting
Shift + Tab move to the previous setting
Alt make selections for options with
an underlined character
Enter change to your selected setting
Arrow move up or down among the items
in options
# MenuItem
$1File Menu
Use this menu to get information on file or printer
settings, to change settings in a file or the printer,
or to exit from the Remote Control Panel.
$1Load Config File...
This item selects a configuration file from among
files saved with the extension .ECF. When you
choose this item, a dialog box appears. After you
select a file and click OK, the file's settings are
displayed as the current settings in the Remote
Control Panel.
$1Save
This item saves the current settings under the
currently opened file name. If no file has been
loaded, it switches to Save As and prompts you for
a file name.
$1Save As...
This item saves the current settings under the file
name you specify. When you choose this item,
a dialog box appears, prompting you for a file name.
After you enter a name and click OK, the current
settings are stored in the new file.
$1Send to Printer
This item sends the current settings displayed in
the Remote Control Panel to the printer; the printer
settings then change to these new settings.
You can also click Send to send the settings to the
printer.
$1Update from Printer
This item retrieves the current printer settings and
displays them as the current settings in the Remote
Control Panel.
$1Print Status Sheet
This item prints out the status sheet.
$1Print LJ4 Font Sheet
This item prints out the font sample sheet in
LaserJet4 Mode.
$1Print PS Font Sheet
This item prints out the font sample sheet in
EPSONScript Level 2 Mode. This item appears only
when the EPSONScript Level 2 SIMM is installed in
the printer.
$1Print ESCP2 Font Sheet
This item prints out the font sample sheet in
ESCP2 Mode.
$1Print FX Font Sheet
This item prints out the font sample sheet in
FX Mode.
$1Print I239X Font Sheet
This item prints out the font sample sheet in
I239X Mode.
$1Initialize Printer
This item sets the current printer settings to
their original factory settings.
$1Exit
This item ends the setting process and exits from
the Remote Control Panel. You can also click the
EXIT button to exit.
$1Emulation
This menu selects the printer emulation for the
current interface. When the printer emulation
changes, all downloaded font data and settings are
lost.
$1LaserJet 4
This option sets the printer emulation to LaserJet 4.
$1EPSONScript Level 2
This option sets the printer emulation to EPSONScript
Level 2. This option appears only when the
EPSONScript Level 2 kit is installed in the printer.
$1ESCP2
This option sets the printer emulation to ESCP2.
$1FX
This option sets the printer emulation to FX.
$1I239X
This option sets the printer emulation to I239X.
$1EPSON GL2
This option sets the printer emulation to EPSON GL2.
Following settings affect EPSON GL2 mode printings:
Page Setup;
Page Size, Copies, Form, Paper Feed
Printer Setup;
Page Protect, Resolution, RITech, Density,
Auto Continue,Toner Save Mode
More;
Top Offset, Left Offset, Standby,Timeout,
Paper Size Ignore
Note:
There is no individual setting window for EPSON GL2.
$1Auto
This option sets the printer emulation to Auto.
$1Other
This option shows that the other emulation is selected.
This option is indication only and can not be selected.
$1Language
This item selects the language for the panel display
and Status Sheet.
# PageSetup
In Page Setup, you can set page configuration items
such as the number of copies and lines per page.
The printer driver can also make these settings;
the driver's settings override the Remote Control
Panel settings.
$1Page Size
This item selects the paper size from the list
shown below.
A4, Letter, Legal, Executive, Monarch,
Commercial 10, DL, C5, International B5, A5,
Half Letter, Government Letter, Government Legal,
F4, C6, B5, Custom
$1Copies
This item selects the number of copies to be printed,
up to 999. If you select a number greater than one,
the display shows the number of copies completed
and the current setting.
$1Form
This item selects the number of lines for the
selected paper size and orientation, ranging from
5 to 128. A change in this setting also causes a
change in line spacing (Vertical Motion Index),
and the new VMI value is stored in the printer.
Later changes to the Page Size or the Orientation
also cause changes in the Form value, based on the
stored VMI value.
This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode.
$1Orientation
This item selects the direction in which characters
or images are printed on a page. Portrait or
landscape is available.
$1Paper Feed
This item selects paper feed method or paper source.
In manual feed mode, the printer goes off line
after each page of data is received.
To continue printing, insert a new sheet of paper
in MP tray and press the Online Switch.
When sets to Automatic,supply paper from the paper source
holding paper of the size specified by Page Size.
# Type
Using Type, you can set font related items.
The printer driver can also make these settings;
the driver's settings override the Remote Control
Panel settings.
This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode.
$1Typeface
This item selects any typeface available in the
printer, including built-in,download Font SIMM
typefaces.
In the typeface list, a download typeface is
followed by (DOWN) and a Font SIMM typeface is
followed by (SIMM).
$1Point Size or Pitch
This item selects the character point size or the
pitch of fixed-pitch characters.
$1Symbol Set
This item selects a symbol set from those available
for the typeface you selected.
# Others
Using others,you can set up your printer to operate
in ESCP2,FX or I239X Mode emulation.
This option is valid in ESCP2, FX and I239X Mode.
$1Condensed (Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
Select normal/condensed charcter size.
When set to Off, selects normal character size.
When set to On, selects condensed character size.
$1T Margin
Sets/displays the distance between the top of the
page and the baseline position of first line of
printing.
$1Text
Sets or display the lines-per-page value.
The calculation always assumes that line height is
1/6 inch, regardless of the current line-height
setting.
$1Auto CR
This function moves the current print position to
the left margine of the current line.
Use when print position passees right margin.
When set to On, executes carriage return and line
feed when print position passees right margin.
When set to Off, no automatic carriage return when
print position passees right margin ; print position
can advance to 16 inches regardless of right margin
setting.
$1Auto LF
Switches CR(carriage return) command function.
When set to Off, printer considers that only
CR(carriage return) command was sent.
When set to On, printer considers that only CR
(carriage return) + LF(Line Feed) command were
sent.
$1Bit Image(Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
Selects bit image.
When Dark is selected, emulates the resolution of
bit image correctly. High density.
When Light is selected, emulates the resolution of
bit image correctly. Low density.
When Barcode is selected, used in image printing of
barcode.
$1Zero Char
Selects a zero character. "/"(slash) of character
"0" does not exist.
Selects a slashed zero character. "/"(slash) of
character "0" does exist.
$1Alt.Graphics (Only I239X Mode)
Alt.Graphics is an abbreviation of Alternate Graphics
Mode which enables the command function
equivalent to EPSON LQ/570, LQ/1070. Alt.Graphics
can be set on the panel, but cannot be set by a
command.
When set to Off, not support EPSON Mode.
When set to on, supports EPSON Mode.
$1Character Set (Only I239X Mode)
Defines the upper control code.
When sets to 1,specifies the character codes 80h to 9Fh
as control code 00h to 1Fh.
When sets to 2,specifies the character codes 80h to 9Fh
as normal characters.
# PrinterSetup
In this category, you can set items that affect
printer performance. The printer driver can set most
of these settings; the driver's settings override
the Remote Control Panel settings.
$1Page Protect
The printer allocates enough memory to produce
the entire page image for the paper size selected
in this item. The options are On and Auto.However,
the Auto setting is sufficient for most print jobs.
$1Resolution
This item switches the resolution between 300 and
600 dpi.
$1RITech
RITech (Resolution Improvement Technology)
produces smoother and crisper lines, text, and
graphics. If you change this setting, you can check
the print quality by printing a Status Sheet.
$1Density
Use this option to adjust the print density if your
print is too light or too dark.
$1Auto Continue
This item permits the printer to automatically
continue printing after an error occurs. When this
option is off, you must press the Continue button
to resume printing. In most cases, you should leave
this option set to Off.
$1Toner Save Mode
Use this option to reduce the amount of toner that
your printer uses on each page by up to 50 percent.
The Toner Save Mode can be used as a draft mode
to extend the life of your toner cartridge.
$1Image Optimum
Use this option to print complex graphics with
limited printer memory. If your page requires more
memory to print than you have available in your
printer, the printer will use Image Optimum to make
very small modifications to the image to form it
within available printer memory.
# More
In this category, you can set the following items;
$1Top Offset
Allows you to adjust the vertical printing position
on the page. The setting is in millimeter.
You can raise or lower the printing position
by 0.5mm step(the settings are from -9 to 99).
$1Left Offset
Allows you to adjust the horizonatal printing position
on the page. The setting is in millimeter.
You can move to left or right the printing position
by 0.5mm step(the settings are from -9 to 99).
$1Standby
This option saves power by reducing the power to
the fuser if the printer receives no data for
30 minutes. In this mode, the printer begins
warming up as soon as you send any data, and is
ready to print within 60 seconds.
$1Timeout
If the printer receives no data for some period
which specified in Timeout, the printer feeds paper
automatically and if I/F or Language is changed,
printer mode will be moved to the default mode.
Timeout will be set 0 or within 5-300 sec (1sec step).
When sets to 0, it means no timeout.
$1Paper Size Ignore
Enables or disables "Paper Set..." error and
"Check Paper Size".
When sets to On,above statuses are ignored.
When sets to Off,above statuses are detected.
$1Source Symbol Set (Only LJ4 Mode)
This option sets the replacement source Symbol Set
value transmitted from the application.
This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode with
the specific option font ROM installed in the printer.
$1Destination Symbol Set (Only LJ4 Mode)
This option sets the replacement destination Symbol
Set value in the printer.
This option is valid only in LaserJet 4 Mode with
the specific option font ROM installed in the printer.
$1Country (Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
Selects international characters.
$1CG Table (Only ESCP2, FX Mode)
Selects character set table.
$1Code Page (Only I239X Mode)
Selects code pages.
# ScriptError
This option tells the printer to print out an error
sheet when an error occurs in EPSONScript Level 2.
This option is valid only in the EPSONScript Level2
Mode.
