  5. Release Notes
  6. -------------
  7. This is version 4.02.218 of the Diamond GT Windows 95 Drivers disk, with
  8. InControl Tools 95 version 4.02.073.  This driver currently supports the
  9. following Diamond display adapters:
  10.  
  11.         Stealth64 Video 2000 series
  12.         Stealth64 Video 2001 series
  13.         Stealth64 Video 3000 series

  16. Windows95 Installation Notes
  17. ------------------------------
  18. 1.  From Windows 95, select Start, then Run.
  19.  
  20. 2.  If you have the floppy diskette version, insert the Diamond GT Windows 95
  21.     Drivers / InControl Tools 95 diskette into your floppy drive.  If you have
  22.     the CD-ROM version, insert the Diamond GT Windows 95 Drivers / InControl
  23.     Tools 95 CD into your CD-ROM drive.

  25. 3.  In the Run dialog box, type in the following:
  26.  
  27.         X:\INSTALL <enter>
  28.  
  29.     Where X is the drive letter of the floppy drive containing the Diamond GT
  30.     Windows 95 Display Drivers / InControl Tools 95 diskette if you have the
  31.     floppy diskette version, or is the drive letter of the CD-ROM containing
  32.     the Diamond Windows 95 Display Drivers / InControl Tools 95 CD if you have
  33.     the CD-ROM version.
  34.  
  35.     The following command line switches can be used with INSTALL:
  36.  
  37.         /f              This forces a Full installation (See below for a
  38.                         description of a Full installation).
  39.  
  40.         /m              This forces a Minimal installation (Diamond GT
  41.                         display driver only).
  42.  
  43.         /d"drive:\path" This installs InControl Tools 95 into drive:\path. Note
  44.                         that the quotes around the drive and path are
  45.                         required, and that either the /f or /m must be used
  46.                         in conjunction with this switch.
  47.  
  48.         /r              This forces a system reboot after installation.  Note
  49.                         that either the /f or /m switches must be used in
  50.                         conjunction with this switch.
  51.  
  52.         /nr             This prevents a system reboot after installation.
  53.                         Note that either the /f or /m switches must be
  54.                         used in conjunction with this switch.
  55.  
  56.         uninstall       This will completely uninstall the Diamond GT display
  57.                         driver and InControl Tools 95.  If you have the CD-ROM
  58.                         version, this will also uninstall the CompCore SoftPEG
  59.                         software MPEG player.
  60.  
  61. 4.  From the Diamond Setup dialog box, select Next.
  62.  
  63. 5.  From the Hardware Check dialog box, select Next.
  64.  
  65. 6.  A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl Tools 95 
  66.     will be installed.  The default path is:
  67.  
  68.         C:\Program Files\Diamond
  69.  
  70.     Select Next, or change the path as necessary.
  71.  
  72. 7.  The next dialog box selects the installation type.  There are three
  73.     installation types, Minimal, Full, and Custom.  They are defined as
  74.     follows:
  75.  
  76.          Minimal:  This will install only the Diamond GT display driver.
  77.  
  78.          Full:     This will install both the Diamond GT display driver
  79.                    and InControl Tools 95.  If you have the CD-ROM version,
  80.                    this will also install the CompCore SoftPEG software MPEG
  81.                    player, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft DirectX, and
  82.                    Game Demos.
  83.  
  84.          Custom:   This will allow installation of either the Diamond GT
  85.                    display driver or InControl Tools 95.  If you have the
  86.                    CD-ROM version, you will also have the option of installing
  87.                    the CompCore SoftPEG software MPEG player, Microsoft
  88.                    Internet Explorer, Microsoft DirectX, and Game Demos.  At
  89.                    the minimum, the Diamond GT display driver must be installed
  90.                    during a first-time installation.
  91.  
  92. 8.  If Custom was selected in step 7, a dialog box will appear allowing
  93.     selection of various items.  Select the items to be installed by
  94.     clicking on them with the left mouse button.  When finished, click
  95.     Next to continue.
  96.  
  97. 9.  At the Select Files to be copied dialog box, click Next to begin the
  98.     file copy process.
  99.  
  100. 10. After the files have been copied, a Finished Installing dialog box will
  101.     appear.  Remove the installation diskette from the floppy drive, then click
  102.     Finish.
  103.  
  104. 11. Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on Yes to
  105.     restart the computer.
  106.

  108. Selecting A User-Defined Monitor
  109. --------------------------------
  110.  
  111. If your monitor is not listed in the Windows 95 monitor list, you can define
  112. your monitor's specifications using the Diamond Monitor Wizard.  To run the
  113. Wizard, follow the directions below:
  114.  
  115. 1.  Double click on the InControl Desktop Manager icon in the tray, or
  116.     from the Start menu, select Programs, then select InControl Tools 95, then
  117.     select InControl Desktop Manager.
  118.  
  119. 2.  From the Display Properties box, select the Settings tab.
  120.  
  121. 3.  Select Change Display Type.
  122.  
  123. 4.  Select Change next to the Monitor Type box.
  124.  
  125. 5.  Select Show All Devices.
  126.  
  127. 6.  Select (User defined monitor types).  User defined monitor(InControl Tools
  128.     95) should be highlighted in the right side of the dialog box.
  129.  
  130. 7.  Click OK.
  131.  
  132. 8.  Click Close.  This will launch the Diamond Monitor Wizard.
  133.  
  134.  
  135. Known Limitations
  136. -----------------
  137. If these drivers are installed from "Have Disk" with the Microsoft S3 driver 
  138. already active, the Microsoft driver will overwrite the PCI frame buffer 
  139. address.  The system *MUST* be powered down after installing the Diamond GT 
  140. Windows 95 display driver to remedy this issue.  Note that this issue does not
  141. occur when installing over the Microsoft VGA driver.
  142.  
  143. When installing DirectX applications, a dialog box may appear asking if
  144. you would like to install a certified DirectX driver.  You should select
  145. "No", so that the Diamond GT drivers will not be overwritten.  The Diamond GT
  146. drivers will be DirectX-certified as soon as certification begins by Microsoft.
  147.  
  148. It is recommend that all screen savers be disabled prior to the installation
  149. of the Diamond GT / InControl Tools 95 product set.
  150.  
  151. MechWarrior 2 for Windows 95 will give a black screen if run in 640x480 mode.
  152. Use 320x200 mode to resolve this issue.  This problem is being investigated.
  153.  
  154. A General Protection Fault may occur by running After Dark for Windows v.3.1.
  155. Upgrading to After Dark v.3.2 will resolve this issue.
  156.  
  157. To view the Online Internet Services, your World Wide Web browser must be
  158. registered with the Windows 95 Registry.
  159.  
  160. Using Microsoft's The Fox and The Bear application in 640x480 16bpp, the
  161. display will not be correct.  This problem is being investigated.
  162.  
  163. If you encounter problems when setting modes, you may want to try one of the
  164. Standard Monitor Types in the Monitor Type dialog of the Display Properties
  165. sheet.
  166.  
  167. With some BIOSes, you may encounter problems switching between the desktop and
  168. 320x200 or 320x240 DirectDraw modes.  This problem is being investigated.  A
  169. BIOS upgrade may address this for you.  See below for more information on
  170. BIOSes.
  171.  
  172. With some BIOSes, the Diamond GT driver may not correctly identify your Diamond
  173. display adapter.  A BIOS upgrade may address this for you.  See below for more
  174. information on BIOSes.
  175.  
  176. The following BIOSes have been tested with the Diamond GT display driver.  If
  177. you have an older BIOS and are encountering difficulties, it is recommended
  178. that you contact Diamond Customer Service at 408-325-7100 (option 3) to get the
  179. current version of the BIOS for your Diamond display adapter:
  180.  
  181.         Stealth64 Video 2000 series:    BIOS 1.02
  182.         Stealth64 Video 2001 series:    BIOS 1.00, 1.01, 1.03
  183.         Stealth64 Video 3000 series:    BIOS 1.04, 1.06
  184.                                         BIOS 2.04, 2.07
  185.                                         BIOS 3.00, 3.01
  186.         Stealth64 Video 3200:        BIOS 1.06, 1.16
