  7. -------------
  8. This is v1.37 of the Stealth 64 DRAM Windows v3.1 Driver disk.
  9.  
  10.  
  11. Windows Installation Notes
  12. --------------------------
  13. Use the INSTALL program to install the Windows 3.1 drivers from DOS
  14. or from the Windows Program Manager.
  15.  
  16. *  Suggestion:  If you are upgrading from a previous version of the
  17.    Diamond InControl Tools, you should install from DOS, not from
  18.    within Windows.  This will bypass errors regarding any files that
  19.    may be in use and cause the installation to fail.
  20.                   
  21. *  Suggestion:  When running the Windows install, use MS VGA
  22.    to eliminate any OEM files that could create a conflict.
  23.  
  24. *  When running a windows install, if the install says 
  25.    "file in use, abort/continue" and the file in question is 
  26.    a font (*.FON) file, continue the install.
  27.  
  28. *  If strange errors occur and text is missing from dialogs,
  29.    check for .VBX files in your \WINDOWS directory.  .VBX files
  30.    should only reside in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub-directory.
  31.  
  32. Once the driver launches Windows, you will be placed in 640x480
  33. 256-color mode and prompted to select your monitor type.  Select 
  34. the brand monitor you have, compatible type, or use the Custom 
  35. Monitor Timings to create your own configuration and custom 
  36. screen centering.
  37.  
  38. *  Icon fonts are controlled by InControl Tools.  When changing
  39.    modes back to VGA or a non-Diamond driver, these settings
  40.    still remain.  To change back to default icon font, search
  41.    the WIN.INI file for the IconTypeFace, IconTypeStyle, and
  42.    IconTypeSize lines.  Place a semicolon (;) in front of these
  43.    lines or remove the lines entirely.
  44.  
  45. *  Only resolutions that have been selected as supported in the
  46.    Display module will be available in the Viewport choices.  If
  47.    your monitor can display a resolution provided by the card,
  48.    go to Display and select a monitor that offers that mode and
  49.    refresh, or select Custom Monitor Timings and Add the mode.
  50.  
  51. *  If Windows only displays a single alphabetic character for the
  52.    icon font, select a different font from the list of InControl
  53.    Tools.  Windows may not support the font type/size requested
  54.    in the resolution and resource size displayed.
  55.  
  56. *  If you had screen savers loaded previously, and they seem not
  57.    to load on startup any longer, see the message at the top 
  58.    regarding backing up important files and the limitation down
  59.    below of LOAD= line being replaced and not appended.  This is
  60.    a limitation of the Windows 3.xx SETUP program. This does not
  61.    occur with the Diamond install.

  63.  
  64. Trouble Shooting Suggestions
  65. ----------------------------
  66. All of the options listed below are to be added into a section called
  67. [STLTH64.DRV].  This section is not created during the installation
  68. of the Diamond drivers and InControl Tools.  You must manually add this
  69. section.  It should be added to the end of the SYSTEM.INI.
  70.  
  71.  
  72. *  If you are experiencing random lock-ups in Windows you can add the
  73.    following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI. This
  74.    type of lock-up may occur with applications that interrogate the
  75.    systems memory searching for virill.
  76.  
  77.      LEAVEMMIODISABLED=1  --  This is set to 0 by default.
  78.  
  79. *  If you are encountering some lock-ups during heavy DMA transfers or
  80.    your motherboard supports bus time-outs then you may try setting
  81.    the following option in the [STLTH64.DRV] section of your SYSTEM.INI
  82.  
  83.      BUSYCHECK=ON  --  This is set to OFF by default.
  84.  
  85. *  If you are using Lenny Music Tunes, Microsoft Art Gallery, Small
  86.    Blue Planet, Ocean Below, Vampire's Coffin, D-Day, all of the
  87.    Brightstart education CD's, and other similar applications, you
  88.    will want to add the following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section
  89.    of the SYSTEM.INI.  This will correct the corrupted screens you
  90.    may experience during animation sequences.
  91.  
  92.      DEVICEBITMAPS=1 -- This is set to 0 by default.
  93.  
  94.    With the fix enabled you may possibly experience compatibility issues
  95.    with other programs; one confirmed problem is with Adobe Illustrator
  96.    v4.01.
  97.  
  98.  
  99.    * IMPORTANT NOTE:  This is a problem with the way bitmaps are treated
  100.                       by the application. This is not a deficiency in the
  101.                       driver.  We have provided a means to correct this
  102.                       issue, until the software vendor rectifies the problem.
  103.                       All Edutainment vendors have been made aware of the
  104.                       problem and are currently taking steps to correct the
  105.                       bitmap issue.
  106.  
  107. *  Important Note for VLB Card users.  If you are experiencing problems
  108.    entering Windows v3.1, in 640x480x8bpp, or greater you can relocate
  109.    the Linear Address of the Stealth 64 Video VRAM.  Add the following line
  110.    into the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI.
  111.  
  112.      MEMADDR=xxxx --  This is set to 7C00 by default.
  113.  
  114.      Where xxxx can be only ONE of the following options:
  115.         8000
  116.         0100
  117.         0200
  118.         0400
  119.

  121. -----------
  122. The following Windows 3.1 drivers are included:

  130. *2 Megabytes of on-board memory required.

  132.  
  133. The following items require a SYSTEM.INI switch be changed:
  134. -----------------------------------------------------------
  135.  
  136.  1024x768x8/16/32bpp, D-Day select Media Tour Menu and by
  137.  Theme | select Army topics and choose
  138.  "Artillery : Allied AntiTank Weapons" | No video displayed
  139.  (or fragmented video displayed)
  140.  
  141.  All resolutions All Color depths, The Vampires's Coffin,
  142.  At the intro screen, the screen will fade in and
  143.  out very very slowly.  PROJECTR caused a GPF in module
  144.  GDI.EXE @ 0001:0F6A
  145.  
  146.  All resolutions, 8bpp, Lenny's Music Toons, Horizontal
  147.  line appears and picture is corrupt.
  148.  
  149.  All resolutions, 8bpp, MS Art Gallery, picture appears
  150.  corrupt.
  151.  
  152. Known Restrictions:
  153. -------------------
  154.  
  155.  Dinosaur Safari from Creative Media.  This product does not operate properly
  156.  under Windows, the vendor can be contacted at 503-241-1530.
  157.  
  158.  You cannot center any modes under "User Defined..." until you restart
  159.  Windows.
  160.  
  161.  800x600x32bpp, 1024x768x32bpp, Small Blue Planet, "Runtime
  162.  Error : Stack Overflow" when the  application is loaded.
  163.  NOTE: This will occur with ALL 32bpp drivers.
  164.  
  165.  All resolutions, 16/24bpp, Paintbrush, Print to HP
  166.  LaserJet 4 | Prints nothing.
  167.  
  168.  Run Landmark Speed - it will drop you to a dos prompt.
  169.  This is a limitation of the application, if you
  170.  run a DX2/66 in non-turbo mode, the program will work
  171.  fine, in turbo mode the system hangs, this is a
  172.  issue with the application itself, not the driver.
  173.  
  174.  Some monitors which do not support DPMS will start scrolling until
  175.  entering into Sleep mode.
  176.
