  14. 1. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
  15.  
  16.    Before you update Sound Blaster drivers, please ensure that your
  17.    Sound Blaster card is functioning properly on your system. This
  18.    Sound Blaster Updates Disk will only update the latest drivers for
  19.    you.
  20.  
  21.    To install Sound Blaster Updates, you require INSTALL.EXE,
  22.    INSTALL.PVL and any additional files that are card dependent.
  23.    (Refer to the table below). If you downloaded AWEDW3UP.EXE, you
  24.    will also need to download S16DW3UP.EXE before installing.
  25.  
  26.    We recommend that you update both the DOS and Windows drivers.

  38. 2. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
  39.  
  40.    To update your Sound Blaster software, follow the steps below:
  41.  
  42.    a. Copy any of the files that you want to update (as shown in
  43.       section 1) onto a floppy disk or a directory in your hard disk.
  44.  
  45.    b. Run the program INSTALL.EXE.
  46.  
  47.    c. The installation will detect the Audio card used and will not
  48.       extract that file if it is not meant for the correct Audio card.
  49.  
  50.    d. Follow the program's instructions to complete the installation.
  51.  
  52.    * Do NOT run INSTALL.EXE under Windows.
  53.  
  54. 3. INSTALL's OPERATION
  55.  
  56.    INSTALL will perform the following tasks:
  57.  
  58.    a. Back-up all out-dated files from your Sound Blaster directory to
  59.       the BACKUP directory.
  60.  
  61.    b. Install updated programs to your Sound Blaster directory.
  62.  
  63.    If you choose to update the drivers in your Windows directory, the
  64.    program will perform the following tasks:
  65.  
  66.    a. Remove all out-dated drivers from your Windows directory.
  67.  
  68.    b. Install updated drivers to your Windows directory.
  69.  
  70.    c. Verify that the file SYSTEM.INI contains the correct name of the
  71.       Sound Blaster driver(s).
  72.  
  73.    At the end of the installation, a log file SBUPDATE.LOG will be
  74.    created in your Sound Blaster directory.  You may use a text editor
  75.    to view this file.  Alternatively, you may follow the steps below:
  76.  
  77.    a. Change to your Sound Blaster directory.
  78.  
  79.    b. Type "TYPE SBUPDATE.LOG" and press <Enter> to view the contents
  80.       of the file.

  83. 4. LIST OF UPDATED FILES

  85.    Note - BACKUP directory refers to the directory \BACKUP in your
  86.           Sound Blaster directory which will be created by the INSTALL
  87.           program.
