  4. PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN INSTALLATION.

  7. To install Cirrus Logic Drivers for OS\2 2.X AND 3.0 Drivers run setup.cmd
  8. to install IBM OS/2 SERVICE PACK. Follow the instructions after setup has
  9. completed and reboot system. Run Display Driver Install from the OS/2 SYSTEM FOLDER 
  10. and follow prompts.

  13. If you downloaded these files from the BBS, unzip the file to a disk
  14. and label the disk "SP DISK 1" before installation using DOS Label.com

  86.   The Cirrus Logic 54XX device driver provides seamless
  87.   support for accelerated display graphics and advanced
  88.   color resolutions when used with the minimum required
  89.   video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat
  90.   memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  91.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  92.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  93.   been enabled for use with the IBM* Display Console
  94.   Access Facility (DCAF) product.

  166.   PRELIMINARY STEPS
  167.   _________________

  169.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  170.   Cirrus Logic device driver:
  171.  
  172.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  173.       to install this driver.
  174.   2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during
  175.       installation of the device driver.  If you
  176.       elected not to install the OS/2 Optional System
  177.       Utilities or you have deleted the ATTRIB command,
  178.       use Selective Install and select Change File
  179.       Attributes to restore the ATTRIB command before
  180.       continuing.
  181.   3.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  182.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  183.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  184.       README before you install this driver.

  187.   INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  188.   __________________________
  189.  
  190.   To install the Cirrus Logic device driver from
  191.   diskette, do the following:
  192.  
  193.   1.  Insert the Cirrus Logic diskette into drive A (or
  194.       any other diskette drive).
  195.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  196.

  201.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  202.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  203.       drive:
  204.  
  205.              A:SETUP A: C:
  206.  
  207.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  208.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  209.  
  210.       Then press Enter.
  211.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  212.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  213.       your computer.
  214.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  215.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  216.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  217.  
  218.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  219.       "Cirrus Logic" should be the default choice.  If
  220.       not, select it.  Then select OK.
  221.   8.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  222.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  223.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  224.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  225.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  226.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.

  232.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  233.       Utility Program" choice, you must have a DOS
  234.       monitor utility that came with your display
  235.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  236.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  237.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  238.  
  239.       NOTE:  At this point, DSPINSTL determines the
  240.              hardware configuration by creating the
  241.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.  If the
  242.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file has not been
  243.              created, the adapter will not be
  244.              supported.
  245.  
  246.   9.  When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  247.       insert the Cirrus Logic diskette into drive A.
  248.       Then select Install.
  249.   10. When the installation is complete, do the
  250.       following:
  251.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  252.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  253.       c.  Open the System object.
  254.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  255.           the Screen tab.  Then go to Screen page 2.
  256.       e.  On Screen page 2, select your display from
  257.           the display list.  If your display does not
  258.           appear in the list, select Default.

  264.       f.  Return to Screen page 1 and select a screen
  265.           resolution and a screen refresh rate.
  266.       g.  Close the Settings notebook.
  267.       h.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.

  269.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  270.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  271.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  272.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  273.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  274.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  275.   installation problem to IBM.

  278.   INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT
  279.   _________________________________

  281.   NOTES:

  283.   1.  The server must contain a directory named
  284.       CIR_DRVS on the same drive where the OS/2
  285.       diskettes reside.  The CIR_DRVS directory must
  286.       contain all of the files from the Cirrus Logic
  287.       device driver diskette.
  288.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  289.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  290.       Distribution) method.

  411.        /PK:SVGA where SVGA is the primary adapter key.
  412.        /SK:NONE where NONE is the secondary adapter key.
  413.        /S:X:\ where X:\ is the redirected source path.
  414.        /T:C: where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  415.        /MC:7 is the manufacturing code that distinguishes Cirrus.
  416.        /res:640x480x256 is a resolution/color depth from the
  417.         list of "Supported Resolutions" that appears earlier in
  418.         this README.

  420.   NOTES:
  421.  
  422.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  423.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  424.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  425.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  426.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  427.       you select a resolution that your display does
  428.       not support.

  434.   2.  After the Cirrus Logic device driver has been
  435.       successfully installed on the client machine
  436.       using the CID method and the client machine is
  437.       restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  438.       command line argument.

  441.   FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  442.   _______________________
  443.  
  444.   o   After Dark** for Windows** images that move from
  445.       left to right do not perform properly at
  446.       640x480x16M resolution.
  447.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  448.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows, be sure it is in
  449.       one of the 256 color resolutions.
  450.   o   To avoid a trap in Lotus*** 1-2-3** for OS/2, do
  451.       not attempt to run the program at 16.7 million
  452.       colors.
  453.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  454.       produce a general protection fault when the
  455.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  456.       800x600x64K or 600x480x16 million color mode.
  457.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  458.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  459.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  460.       users of the feature will experience unusual
  461.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive fix package will be
  462.       available electronically.  The software motion
  463.

  468.       video feature is not supported in 16-million
  469.       color modes.
  470.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  471.       window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  472.       full-screen session.
  473.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  474.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  475.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  476.   o   Display Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  477.       supported in 256-color modes only.
  478.   o   You might have to run the CLMODE utility to
  479.       enable the BIOS to generate high-resolution
  480.       modes.

  483.   SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  484.   ________________________________
  485.  
  486.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  487.  
  488.   NOTE:  If your display is out of sync, start OS/2
  489.          using the OS/2 Installation Diskette, insert
  490.          Diskette 1 when prompted, then press F3 to
  491.          display a command prompt.  Use the following
  492.          instructions to reset your display mode:
  493.  
  494.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  495.       returning to VGA mode has been simplified.  Do
  496.       the following:
  497.

  502.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  503.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  504.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  505.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  506.           Alt+F1.
  507.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  508.           press V.
  509.  
  510.       Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  511.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  512.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  513.       16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  514.       OS/2 Warp.
  515.  
  516.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1,
  517.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you installed from
  518.       diskettes, do the following:
  519.  
  520.       1.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL
  521.           directory.  If it is, go to step 2.  If it is
  522.           not, insert Diskette 8 into drive A and
  523.           unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following
  524.           command:
