  6. Installation
  7. Read the accompanying "IMPORTANT.TXT" file. If you agree to the terms and
  8. conditions for using this beta version, proceed as following:
  9.  
  10. * Make sure you have at least Cubase VST version 3.553 installed on your
  11.   computer.
  12.  
  13. * Copy the NorthPole0.91b.dll file to your Vstplugins directory on your
  14.   harddisk
  15.  
  16. * Restart Cubase VST. You can now use the plug in from your effects rack.
  17.  
  18. * Make sure you visit the Prosoniq web site on http://www.prosoniq.com to
  19.   find out about our commercial VST plug ins.

  23. What is it?
  24. NorthPole¬ is a free effects plug in for Steinberg's Cubase VST on PC. It 
  25. adds a fully programmable virtual analog synthesizer filter with 
  26. resonance, envelope follower and an integrated post-filter digital delay to 
  27. your Cubase VST environment.

  29. This plug in was written by Frederic Schelling and me, Stephan Sprenger. We 
  30. both are software developers at PROSONIQ and did this during our free time 
  31. and for the pure fun of it.

  33. Please: as this is not a commercial software product but rather a free 
  34. piece of software we thought you might find useful, please understand that 
  35. neither PROSONIQ nor Steinberg will provide any customer support for it, so 
  36. please don't deluge them with bug reports and do not pose any questions to 
  37. the support division at PROSONIQ or Steinberg. If you experience any 
  38. problems, you can send a bug report to <morph@prosoniq.com> and we will try 
  39. to help you out. You may also turn to the relevant newsgroup 
  40. <alt.steinberg.cubase> and post your problems there. We visit this 
  41. newsgroup every now and then and will answer your questions there if we 
  42. can. Make sure you visit our companies' web site at

  47. Features
  48. This free plug in equips your VST environment with a fully programmable 
  49. resonant filter. In short, you can send any of your VST tracks through this 
  50. 'virtual analog' effects device to either create special effects or to 
  51. simulate the behaviour of an analog 4-pole synthesizer filter.

  58.     * Lowpass/Bandpass switchable 
  59.     * Envelope Follower with adjustable sensitivity

  62.     * Adjustable digital delay after filter with time, mix and feedback

  65. This plug in is completely free and works without limitation.

  67. IMPORTANT: This plug in is FreeWare so please don't expect our distributor 
  68. to provide any kind of support for it. However, feel free to send your 
  69. comments via email to <morph@prosoniq.com> and tell us how you like it.

  72. Installation
  73. All you need to do in order to use this plug in is to copy it to the 
  74. 'VstPlugIns' folder on your harddisk containing your VST application. After 
  75. restarting Cubase VST, the 'NorthPole' plug in will show up in the list 
  76. of modules in the VST effects rack. Please make sure you copy the NorthPole 
  77. DLL to the directory 'VstPlugIns', otherwise VST will fail to load the plug
  78. in and you cannot use it from within the VST environment.

  81. Effect routing setup
  82. As you will most probably be interested in sending a complete track through 
  83. the NorthPole filter plug in rather than having both the original and 
  84. processed version appear in the output, you should set up your VST routing 
  85. in the following manner. Since VST as of version 3.5 does not support 
  86. insert effects, you have the following two options:
  87.  
  88. Master Effect: NorthPole needs to replace your audio data and is not really 
  89. intended as an add-on effect (like a reverb for example) - although this 
  90. can also sound cool in some cases. It can therefore work as a master 
  91. effect. To use it as such, simply proceed as described in your VST manual.

  93. Using the send/return path: To use the plug in for a single channel, you 
  94. have to switch the channel mode to 'pre' and turn down the volume of that 
  95. channel by setting the channel slider to its minimum.

  97. Otherwise you will get a mixture of the original and processed version. Set 
  98. the effects send knob to fully maximum and turn on the effect in the 
  99. effects rack. In order to make it work, you also have to set the effect's 
  100. input volume in the effects rack to any value greater 0. You will now hear 
  101. the effects signal only, as required.

  126. System Requirements
  127. NorthPole¬ requires a pre-installed Cubase VST version 3.02 or higher on an 
  128. Apple PowerMacintosh or 100% compatible system. System version and other 
  129. prerequisites as required by Cubase VST. Although the NorthPole¬ plug in is 
  130. not (yet) particularly optimized, it requires very little processing power 
  131. and should therefore work on any machine that is able to run VST. This plug 
  132. in will not work on a PC. A PC compatible version will require explicit 
  133. porting to that platform, see my web page at
