HISTORY.TXT PurgeIE - Version Information
Version 5.03 - 11/03/2003 -
Improved processing for the "History Folders" option.
This should overcome the problems with IE-5 and IE-6 which
prevent users from deleting their "Today" History on many
systems.
Version 5.02 - 06/30/2003 -
Implemented buttons on the main window to turn all
options 'On' and 'Off'.
Combined the "Clear History via I.E." option into the
"History Folders" option. This eliminated the use of
the 'Internet Options' screens and is much faster.
Version 5.01 - 07/30/2002 -
Added a option to purge the IE 'UserData' folder. This folder is
documented on Microsoft.com as "UserData Persistence". Some of
the privacy experts refer to these files as "SuperCookies".
Microsoft implemented this functionality with IE-5 and expanded
it with IE-5.5.
Enhanced the 'Typed URLs' function to include the purge of the
'Typed URLs' from the MSN window for those using MSN Explorer.
Version 4.04 - 02/18/2002 -
Added an "Open" function to the 'Protect' window. This opens
an Internet Explorer window for the selected URL address. This allows
you to easily open an I.E. window to access the Website that
gave you the selected Cookie. There had been several requests
for this functionality.
Changed the criteria for display of the 'Green Warning' at the
bottom of the PurgeIE display. Previously, any error caused the
'Green Warning' to display. Several users reported that they
were getting the warning even though the only problem was that
one, or more, files wouldn't delete from the Windows Temp folder
due to being in use by other programs. This change causes 'Locked'
Temp files to be considered insufficient to cause the 'Green Warning'
to display. The message display will still contain the 'Locked'
indication but will not, by itself, cause the warning to display.
Implemented the <Tab> key as a hotkey to locate the Error Messages
and Error Indicators in the PurgeIE's displayed messages.
In order to promote the use of the <Tab> key function, changed
the warning message from:
"Errors in Purge Report - Please review the report...." to
"Errors in Purge Function - Use the TAB key to locate the
Error messages...."
Changed the display for the Windows Temp Folder to display the
folder name as a Long File name.
Version 4.03 - 09/30/2001 -
The primary enhancement includes a new display within the
'Protect' window. For a selected URL, this displays the domain
from the URL and displays the Security Zone that I.E. would
associate with the URL. For IE-6 systems, the 'per-site'
Cookie setting is displayed.
Associated with the new displays are convenient functions for
adding, changing and deleting these Security Zone assignments
and for IE-6, the Cookie settings.
The purpose of the above implementation is to give you tools
to help you manage Cookies for your system.
Added a 'Controlling Cookies' section to Help File.
Added a 'Troubleshooting' section to Help File.
Implemented a warning to call attention to conflicts with
Purging while an Internet Explorer window is active.
Implemented a more efficient 'install' program to generate
smaller download modules.
Version 4.02 - 05/14/2001 -
Implemented support for IE-6 and for Win-XP.
Version 4.01 - 10/18/2000 -
Implemented an automatic viewer for Cookie contents within the
display function of the Protect window.
Modified both the "Filter" and the "Find" functions to base
their tests on the contents of the Cookie files when
displaying Cookies.
This provides the capability for searching through one's
Cookies for particular content such as the one's own name.
Implemented an option for specifying the column to use for
sorting the displayed items on the Protect window.
Implemented a configuration option to disable hints for the
Window buttons, etc..
Added support for the 'Delete' key for deleting Cookies, etc..
The purge for Windows Temp files has been improved by
performing additional tests to verify that the System pointer
to the folder is correct. The indicated Windows Temp File
folder is verified to be named "temp".
This is to guard against the situation in which one's System
pointer has been modified to refer to a non-temporary folder.
Sub-folders under the Windows Temp File folder are still
included in this purge function.
Version 3.02 - 06/07/2000 -
Implemented an option for "Recycle Bin" - selecting this
option will empty the Windows Recycle Bin.
Revised terminology for 'Subscription' to 'Offline Viewing'
for Cache.
Implemented an 'Execute at Startup' option.
Implemented a Configuration Window for setting display options
for the 'Startup' execution, etc.. PurgeIE can now be
executed in stealth mode by disabling the display options.
Version 3.01 - 12/27/1999 -
Implemented an option "Clear Previous Searches" - selecting
this option will delete the "Previous Searches" data from the
Windows Registry. These are entries retained when one uses
the IE-5 Search function. This function is only available for
IE-5, or higher.
Implemented an option "Clear AutoComplete Forms via I.E." -
selecting this option will bring up the Internet Explorers
Properties Panel and simulate selecting the Content tab,
selecting the "AutoComplete" button and pressing its "Clear
Forms" button. After a successful execution, the I.E. Panel
is closed. This function is only available for IE-5, or
higher.
Implemented a new function "Copy Display to ClipBoard" as an
aid in troubleshooting.
Implemented a new function "Create Shortcuts" for creating
PurgeIE shortcuts on the Desktop.
Version 2.05 - 08/12/1999 -
Modified registration routines to resolve problems associated
with generated User ID Codes.
Version 2.04 - 07/19/1999 -
Converted 'ListBox' control to 'ListView' for the Message
display. This was done to resolve problems with running out
of Windows Resources which had caused Windows failures. It
was determined that a Windows Listbox makes extensive use of
Windows Resources.
Implemented program logic to identify problems with corrupt
Index.dat files. This had resulted in a program loop.
Implemented an option to delete I.E. Folders across a Reboot.
This is for Emergency use to delete corrupted folders. The
Reboot is necessary to avoid the file locking problems.
Version 2.03 - 06/23/1999 -
Implemented a new option "Clear History via I.E." - selecting
this option will bring up the Internet Explorers Properties
(Options) Panel and simulate pressing its "Clear History"
button. After a successful execution, the I.E. Panel is
closed.
The "Clear History via I.E." option was implemented to provide
a means for deleting History information for the systems that
prevented deletion by keeping the History files 'Locked'.
Internet Explorer 4.0 running on Win-98 systems keeps the
current History folder locked once I.E. is started. Other
systems use Locking of these folders to some degree.
Implemented a modification to allow CDF files to delete if
Time since last access for Offline (or Subscription) Cache is
all zeroes.
Version 2.02 - 04/28/1999 -
Implemented an option to Purge Windows Temporary Files.
Added an option to the "Protect Window" to limit the display
to records containing a user-specified character string. This
is to facilitate selection of Cookies, etc., for protection.
Moved Status Messages to bottom of screens.
Corrected error in Statistics function for FAT32 disk
partitions. System was deriving incorrect cluster sizes which
caused the values for allocated disk space to be too high for
Cookies and for Cache.
Reduce initial size of windows to accommodate the Win95
Taskbar for 640x480 displays. The window sizes and positions
will be retained at shutdown as has been done in the previous
versions.
Shortened the path to Online Registration.
Version 2.01 - 03/28/1999 -
Modify documentation re support of Internet Explorer 5.0 as
well as Beta 5.0.
Implement a Statistics function to list disk space used by
Cache and Cookies.
Implement an option for One-Step execution. Add an Icon to
the Distribution package for this - "Purge with Current
Options".
Version 1.01 - 02/25/1999 -
Initial Production Release.
