  51. INSTALLING OR UPDATING XTEQ X-SETUP
  52.  
  53.  To install Xteq X-Setup, extract all files from the 
  54.  archive to a directory and start SETUP.EXE. After 
  55.  Setup has finished, this directory can be deleted.
  56.  
  57.  If you already have Xteq X-Setup installed, you can
  58.  install this new version into the same path as the 
  59.  previous version.
  60.  
  61.  In case you have added your own tools to the 
  62.  "Programs" menu inside X-Setup, you need to copy the 
  63.  file TOOLS.INI from the X-Setup\bin folder to the 
  64.  new X-Setup\cfg folder after your have installed
  65.  X-Setup. After restarting X-Setup, your old entries
  66.  will be present in X-Setup again.

  69. GENERAL NOTICES ABOUT INSTALLING OR UPDATING X-SETUP
  70.  
  71.  - Xteq X-Setup does NOT contain any backdoor 
  72.    software: it *IS NOT* ad-based or spyware-enabled! 
  73.    Your privacy *IS NOT* at risk by using Xteq X-Setup!
  74.  
  75.  - Xteq X-Setup does not intereference with any other 
  76.    system utility nor does it change any configuration
  77.    by just installing it (except adding some harmless 
  78.    empty lines to MSDOS.SYS on W9x/ME machines which
  79.    the OS just ignores). Therefore, you can always 
  80.    install it and give it a try.
  81.  
  82.  - In some very rare cases, Anti-Virus software can 
  83.    cause X-Setup to crash (GPFing). In this case, 
  84.    please disable your Anti-Virus software before 
  85.    starting SETUP.EXE or using X-Setup. Especially,
  86.    Norton AntiVirus seems to crash X-Setup. We 
  87.    suggest using the products from TrendMicro, see
  88.    http://www.antivirus.com/

  90.  - If you have deactivated your Anti-Virus software
  91.    and Setup still shows a GPF ("SETUP caused 
  92.    an invalid page fault in...") some of your system
  93.    components are badly damaged. You might try to 
  94.    install the latest Internet Explorer from 
  95.    Microsoft which sometimes is able to fix the 
  96.    problem. If IE's setup also displays a GPF, the 
  97.    best solution is, sorry to say, FORMAT C:\.
  98.  
  99.  - Because X-Setup contains more than 700 plug-ins 
  100.    that are all created using VBScript, some 
  101.    Anti-Virus software may try to "analyze" every 
  102.    plug-in and thus slowing down the setup process 
  103.    of X-Setup dramatically. Normally, the setup 
  104.    process does not take any longer than two minutes 
  105.    but some users have reported setup durations of 
  106.    30 minutes and more! If this happens to you, 
  107.    just cancel setup, stop the On-Access scanner of 
  108.    you Anti-Virus software and restart setup. After 
  109.    setup is finished, you can simply scan the 
  110.    entire \X-Setup folder to make sure that there 
  111.    are no viruses.

  114. UNINSTALLING XTEQ X-SETUP
  115.  
  116.  To remove Xteq X-Setup, use Start -> Settings ->
  117.  Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. If the Control
  118.  Panel is opened while you are uninstalling X-Setup,
  119.  Setup can't remove the icon inside Control Panel
  120.  because it's locked. If this happens, just close
  121.  Control Panel, search for "XQXSetup.cpl" and delete
  122.  it.

  124.  PLEASE NOTE THAT UNINSTALLING X-SETUP DOES *NOT*
  125.  REVERT ANY CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE USING X-SETUP !!

  128. REQUIRED COMPONENTS
  129.  
  130.  Xteq X-Setup requires some system components that
  131.  are include in every edition of Windows since 
  132.  Windows NT 4.0 and upwards. X-Setup will check 
  133.  itself for the availability of these components 
  134.  before it starts and will display an error if they 
  135.  are missing.

  138. REQUIRED COMPONENTS FOR WINDOWS 95/98
  139.  
  140.  Important: Windows 95/98 without Microsoft Office,
  141.  Internet Explorer etc. has an outdated "OLEAUT32.DLL" 
  142.  which is required to run Xteq X-Setup. This means, 
  143.  if you are trying to execute SETUP.EXE, it will fail
  144.  with the message "A connected device does not work" or
  145.  "Method xxx not found in OLEAUT32.DLL"!
  146.  
  147.  To fix this issue, you need to download and install the
  148.  updated COM library (Version 1.3 or later) from Microsoft.

  156.  We regret this error, but this is an issue of our 
  157.  development environment since Windows 95/98 are no 
  158.  longer supported by Microsoft ("Out of Live").
