  9. Why was CloneSpy written?

  12. Do you often download files from the Internet? Is your hard drive crowded with
  13. these files? Have you ever asked yourself which files you have downloaded more
  14. than once? Perhaps you already burned files to a CD and retrieved them again?
  15. Do you want to find these files and eliminate the duplicates? Maybe you want
  16. to find duplicate files without checking your entire backup CDs every time?
  17. Then CloneSpy is the right tool for you!

  20. What can CloneSpy do?

  23. CloneSpy can help you free up hard drive space by detecting and removing
  24. duplicate files. Duplicate files can have exactly the same contents regardless
  25. of their name, date, time and location. Also, CloneSpy is able to find files
  26. that are not exactly identical, but have the same filename. Perhaps you have
  27. different versions of a file and you want to find all of them and remove the
  28. older versions. CloneSpy can also find zero length files. These are files that
  29. have no content.

  31. With CloneSpy you can process files which
  32.  
  33. - are duplicates
  34. - have the same file name
  35. - are duplicates and have the same file name
  36. - are zero bytes long
  37.  
  38. CloneSpy offers you a complete mechanism to determine which duplicate or
  39. same-name files should be deleted. It is also possible to leave this decision
  40. up to the user. With CloneSpy you can build checksum files from files on CDs
  41. (or even on hard drives, etc.) and use them to check if you have these files
  42. already on your system. The checksum files will prevent you from playing DJ
  43. every time you search for duplicates.

  46. Installation

  49. CloneSpy v1.51 does not need to be installed. Just create a new folder and copy
  50. all files from the CloneSpy archive to the new folder.
