  1. LNX-BBC 1.618 provides an experimental Debian installer.
  2.  
  3. This installer REQUIRES A NETWORK to download components of the Debian
  4. operating system.
  5.  
  6. Both of these ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK, although we welcome your
  7. comments and expect to refine the installer's functionality over time.
  8.  
  9. This installer IS EXPERIMENTAL and should only be used by experienced
  10. Debian users who already understand how to fix a broken system.

  12. dbootstrap.sh
  13. -------------

  15. This script uses a slight variant on the standard Debian potato installer
  16. (dbootstrap).  You can invoke it with "dbootstrap.sh" (and you can even
  17. run it in an xterm).  You must have networking working before you start
  18. dbootstrap.sh.

  20. At press time, most of the installer features worked properly, but the
  21. standard Debian kernel and modules were not compatible with the BBC
  22. versions.  Accordingly, we intend to provide BBC kernel and module
  23. packages on zork.net (64.81.65.8) in a form which dbootstrap can use.

  25. Before trying a network install with dbootstrap.sh, please find out
  26. what's going on with the kernel and modules.  (You can try running
  27. "news", visiting our web page, or joining our mailing list.)

  29. You can then try to get the base system, as well as kernel and
  30. modules, from http.us.debian.org (as of publication, any of the
  31. addresses 209.10.41.242, 141.213.4.21, 192.25.206.10, 35.9.37.225).

  33. For some reason, dbootstrap does not appear to be able to do DNS
  34. lookups.  Thus, having the IP addresses of HTTP servers which will
  35. be used during installation may be important.
