  1. Total Commander 5.51 32 bit for Windows 95/98/ME and Windows NT 3.51/4.0/2000/XP
  2. This version does not work with Windows 3.1 -> get 16 bit on www.ghisler.com

  4. To install Total Commander, just run install.exe
  5. If you have installed a previous version of Total Commander or Wincmd (old name),
  6. you can install the new version to the same directory without removing the
  7. previous version. You can remove an old wincmd version AFTERWARDS with wcuninst.exe.

  9. What is Total Commander?
  10.  
  11. Total Commander (former Wincmd) is a file manager for Windows, a tool like the
  12. Explorer or file manager, which comes with windows. But Total Commander uses a
  13. different approach: it has two fixed windows, which makes copying files much
  14. easier. Total Commander exists in two versions, 16 and 32 bit. While the 16-bit
  15. version runs fine also in 32-bit Windows, the 32-bit version cannot be used in
  16. Windows 3.1.

  18. Total Commander is shareware. The shareware version is freely distributable, 
  19. as long as it is unchanged!

  59. Removing Total Commander: Double click wcuninst.exe !

  61. Installation BY HAND: Just copy the files to a directory on your hard disk.
  62. Unpack the file install.cab with a cab unpacker (like CABVIEW from Microsoft)
  63. to an empty dir, like c:\totalcmd . Then move all files with the extension
  64. .pif into the Windows directory. They let external packers run in a DOS window
  65. instead of full screen. Files in subdir e\ need to be moved to the dir where
  66. totalcmd.exe is.

  68. Removal by hand:If you remove the program (totalcmd dir), also delete the files
  69. wincmd.ini, wcx_ftp.ini and noclose.pif in your Windows directory!
