INSTALLING THE BINARY VERSION OF OSW FOR WINDOWS 98/2000/ME/XP
0. INSTALL THE OSW DISTRIBUTION
If you have not already done so, unpack your OSW distribution into a directory
of your choice (e.g., "C:/OSW"). If your distribution ends in ".zip" you will
need an unzip program (unless you have Windows ME or XP, which have this built
in). If it ends in ".tar.gz" you will need the GNU gunzip and tar utilities (i
f you do not have these on your machine already, you can get them from RedHat,
formerly Cygnus).
NOTE: Please do not install OSW in "Program Files" or any other directory with spaces in it. There is a bug that prevents OSW from getting its location properly if there are spaces in the directory name. This will be fixed soon.
1. INSTALLING TCL/TK
If you do not already have Tcl/Tk 8.2 installed, please do so now by running
ITCL82.EXE. You should have found this in the same download directory
containing the OSW distribution.
Make sure to check ALL the boxes when asked which components to install,
including Itcl/Iwidgets and the headers and libraries.
Unfortunately, version 8.2 is required even if you have a newer version. This
is because of the boneheaded naming scheme that uses different DLL names for
different versions. I suppose with a little work I could get around this.
2. RUNME
Once Tcl/Tk is installed, you can run the script RunMe.tcl the OSW directory.
This script will register the location of OSW on your hard drive and also let
you run OSW by double-clicking on a patch file.
3. START PLAYING
That's it. You should be ready to start using OSW now. Have fun!
