  61. DeviceLock gives network administrators control over which users can
  62. access what devices (floppies, serial and parallel ports, Magneto-Optical
  63. disks, CD-ROMs, ZIPs, etc.) on a local computer. Once DeviceLock is installed,
  64. administrators can control access to floppies, CD-ROMs or any other device,
  65. depending on the time of day and day of the week. DeviceLock enhances access
  66. control for Windows System Administrators and helps control removable disk
  67. usage. It can protect network and local computers against viruses, trojans
  68. and other malicious programs often injected from removable disks. Network
  69. administrators can also use DeviceLock to flush a storage device's buffers.
  70. Remote control is also available.

  72. With DeviceLock you can:

  74.  - Control which users or groups can access devices 
  75.  
  76.  - Control access to devices depending on the time of day and day of the week
  77.  
  78.  - Protect disks from accidental or intentional formatting
  79.  
  80.  - Flush unsaved file buffers (very useful for removable media)

  82.  - Control all functions remotely

  87. Installation
  88. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

  90. To install DeviceLock you MUST have administrative privileges.
  91.  
  92. Run "setup.exe". You'll need to select the target directory for the install.
  93.  
  94. If you install DeviceLock on an NTFS partition, Setup protects DeviceLock's
  95. directory and files by allowing only members of the Administrators group or
  96. the SYSTEM account to access DeviceLock's files or to uninstall DeviceLock.

  98. If you wish to install DeviceLock without an user intervention you should run
  99. DeviceLock Setup with the /s parameter (e.g. "c:\setup.exe /s"). This gives an
  100. install that can be used from within a batch file. There is a special
  101. configuration file for silent setup: devicelock.ini. With this file, you can
  102. customize the DeviceLock installation parameters. For example:
  103.  
  104.  1. "Lock Devices" parameters. Only members of the special local group,
  105.     the operating system and the local administrators will have access to
  106.     the devices on the local computer if one of these parameters is enabled:
  107.  
  108.       Floppy    - floppy drive
  109.       Removable - removable device
  110.       CDROM     - CD-ROM
  111.       RamDisk   - virtual (RAM) disk
  112.       Serial    - serial port (COM)
  113.       Parallel  - parallel port (LPT)
  114.       Tape      - tape device
  115.  
  116.     If the parameter CreateGroups is enabled another special local group
  117.     will be automatically created:

  120.       Allow_Access_to_Removable
  121.       Allow_Access_to_CDRom
  122.       Allow_Access_to_RamDisk
  123.       Allow_Access_to_Serial
  124.       Allow_Access_to_Parallel

  127.     Otherwise if a group does not exist on the local computer, only the
  128.     operating system and the local administrators will have access to the
  129.     device.

  131.  2. "Install" parameters:

  133.       Service    - DeviceLock Service and its related files will be installed
  134.       Manager    - DeviceLock Manager and its related files will be installed
  135.       Documents  - documentation (DeviceLock Manual.pdf) will be installed
  136.  
  137.     To specify a destination directory for DeviceLock, you can supply
  138.     the parameter InstallDir
  139.  
  140.     If you have the registration key-file for DeviceLock, you can specify
  141.     a directory with this file in the parameter RegFileDir
  142.

  144.  3. "Misc" parameters:

  146.       Run - this parameter is used to launch an application or execute a batch
  147.             file after a successful install.
