- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Welcome to NeoSpace!
-
- _____________
- WHAT'S NEW
-
- NeoSpace 1.0 contains the following improvements from version 0.91:
-
- -Compression Checking has been implemented. This added precaution ensures that a
- compressed file will work normally.
- -User Interface has been improved.
- -Disk intensive operations have been optimized.
-
- NeoSpace 0.91 contains the following improvements from version 0.90:
-
- -Hard drive scanning speed has been markedly improved.
- -Users can select which portions of the drive (Windows Directory, Program Files
- Directory and/or All Directories) they wish to scan.
- -Compressed files are immediately transfered to the Restore file list, and vice
- versa, so the program needn't be restarted to undo changes.
- -Check for Updates Feature. As we continue to grow the NeoSpace database, users
- can periodically check for new databases, which can be downloaded online.
- -GUI Improvements. The Graphical User Interface has been stream-lined and unclear
- sections have been improved upon.
- -Scan Files Progress. The file scanning algorithm has been reworked so users have
- a clearer understanding of the percentage of the scan completed.
- -A files directory is now listed with the file under File Details.

- DOCUMENTATION
-
- Complete documentation will be installed on your hard disk when you install
- NeoSpace. This documentation is in PDF format. This is a universal file
- format for which you can obtain a free reader if you do not already have
- one. The free reader will allow you to view the documentation on screen and
- to print it if you choose to do so. We choose PDF format docs to save
- paper and the waste associated with unread paper docs.
-
- If you do not yet have PDF compatible software you can download a free
- Acrobat reader from the Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com

- PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
-
- NeoSpace is a disk space saving utility. It scans your hard drive for common
- files, and compresses them to save disk space. Through use of the technology
- first available in NeoLite, these compressed executables can be run as normal
- programs. Average compression is roughly 50% for each file NeoSpace finds.
- Neospace features an easy to use interface, complete with logging and the
- ability to restore any compressed files to its original state. NeoSpace's
- search database can be automatically updated over the Internet, so periodic
- program users can see continuous benefits. NeoSpace is the only product that
- actually SAVES disk space after an install!
-
- NeoSpace is popular with home users, IT managers, laptop users, and anyone
- short on disk space. NeoSpace does not use drive level compression. Instead,
- individual executables are compressed in a format where they can still execute
- normally. In fact, since hard drives or network connections are usually the
- slowest device in a computer, many executables will actually load faster!
-
- For the IT Professional, using NeoSpace on standard workstation setups can save
- many hundreds of megs of space across a network of computers. There is also
- considerable advantage to using NeoSpace on programs located on shared network
- drives. The compression of NeoSpace will cause these programs to load more
- quickly across the network due to their reduced size. Also of note is that
- program resources and code segments which are discarded by the program will be
- swapped to the local drive instead of being dumped completely as they would
- normally be. This means that when they are needed again they will be loaded
- quickly from the local swap file instead of needing to be fetched again across
- the network.
-
- ____________
- REQUIREMENTS
-
- To use NeoSpace you will need:
-
- ╖ A '32 bit' version of Windows, i.e. Win95, 98 or NT 4.0 or greater. Windows
- 98 or NT Workstation 4.0 are highly recommended.
-
- _________________
- PROGRAM OPERATION
-
- To use NeoSpace, simply click on the NeoSpace icon. When the program launches,
- you are requested to select a drive to search for compressable files. The
- following options are also available:
-
- ╖ Compress unknown versions of safe programs.
-
- This feature will compress programs that match database records by filename,
- but not other properties such as filesize and version. The Beta database
- currently contains files for Windows 98 and NT Workstation 4.0. Using this
- feature will yield better results if you are using Windows 95 or NT Server 4.0.
- However, we cannot guarantee that NeoSpace will work a different version
- of safe software. USE THIS OPTION AT YOUR OWN RISK!
-
- ╖ Scan all files for restoration
-
- This feature will scan every file to see if it's restorable, not just files in
- the NeoSpace database. This option should only be needed if a program has been
- removed from our database but is still compressed on your machine.
-
- ╖ Scan Windows Directory
-
- If the Windows directory exists on this drive, NeoSpace will scan it.
-
- ╖ Scan Program Files Directory
-
- If a directory labeled "Program Files" exists on this drive, NeoSpace will scan it.
-
- ╖ Scan All Other Directories
-
- NeoSpace will scan any other directories on this drive.
-
- ╖ Check For New Version
-
- NeoSpace will check with NeoWorx.com for a new version of the program.
-
- ╖ Check for New Database
-
- NeoSpace will check with NeoWorx.com for an updated database of compressable files.
- Since this database will be updated frequently, users are encouraged to check for a
- new database before running a scan.
-
- ╖ Compress/Restore Files Tabs
-
- The next screen after scanning is complete shows the Compress and Restore
- Files screens. The Compress screen shows a list of safe to compress files
- while the restore screen shows a list of previously compressed files you can
- restore. They share a common user interface.
-
- ╖ File Details
-
- Allows the user to view details of the executables included in each file type.
- Users can also select or deselect individual files from the File Details
- dialog.
-
- ╖ Logging Options
-
- By default, NeoSpace appends compression and decompression results to the end
- of its log file. You can select to Replace or Not Log these results, but
- this is not advised. The log files are called "neospace_cmp_log.txt" for
- compression and "neospace_rst_log.txt" for restoration and are written to the
- directory where NeoSpace is installed.
-
- ╖ Neoworx.com
-
- This button will open up the NeoWorx website in your default browser. From
- here you can download additional updates and learn about our other products.
-
- ╖ Select Drive
-
- Press this button to select a different drive to scan.
-
- ╖ Compress/Restore
-
- Pressing this button will begin the appropriate process. Progress may be
- monitored from the Results tab. If you wish to cancel an action before it
- is complete, press the Stop Compression/Decompression button. You cannot
- change to the other tabs will a compression/decompression action is in
- progress.
-
- ╖ Exit NeoSpace
-
- This button exits the program.
-
- ╖ Help
-
- Opens a standard Windows Help file.
