  18. new Windows optimization and cleanup program from 
  19. Hilchner & Lesani. You will find that WinOptimizer is a 
  20. powerful tool that will help you to eliminate unnecessary 
  21. ballast and keep your Windows system running smoothly and 
  22. efficiently.

  25. not included in the program documentation. Please read it 
  26. carefully before beginning.

  29. Older Versions of WinOptimizer
  30. ------------------------------
  31. Please UNINSTALL all previous versions of the program 
  32. before installing WinOptimizer 99 DELUXE.

  35. Computers with Multiple Operating Systems
  36. -----------------------------------------
  37. WARNING: Please exercise EXTREME CAUTION when using this 
  38. program on computers with more than one operating system 
  39. installed. Failure to observe this warning may result in 
  40. serious problems, which can vary depending on the nature 
  41. of your system configuration.

  43. The DLL Search function is particularly risky on 
  44. computers with more than one OS installed and should only 
  45. be executed by users who are absolutely sure that they 
  46. know what theyÆre doing!
  47.  
  48. This applies in particular for dual-boot systems with 
  49. Windows 9x and Windows NT installations on the same 
  50. partition. NT and Windows 9x have many objects with 
  51. identical names, and assuming that these are unnecessary 
  52. duplicates and deleting them can lead to serious system 
  53. malfunctions.
  54.  
  55. You can avoid most of these problems if you install your 
  56. operating systems on separate partitions and use a modern 
  57. boot manager (like PTS Boot Manager 98 SUPRA) that hides 
  58. the partitions containing the systems that are not 
  59. currently active. However, you may still experience some 
  60. problems if you have applications referencing the hidden 
  61. operating system installed on visible partitions.

  63. Alternatively, you can also exclude the partitions 
  64. containing your other operating systems from 
  65. WinOptimizerÆs searches with the Drives To Search 
  66. settings under Options.

  68. As a general rule of thumb, never delete ANYTHING on 
  69. multiple OS systems unless you are 100% sure that the 
  70. items you are deleting are not needed by any of your 
  71. systems!

  74. Emptying the Recycle Bin 
  75. ------------------------
  76. We recommend that you always empty the Recycle Bin before 
  77. using WinOptimizer. 
  78.  
  79. The capacity of the Recycle Bin is limited. If you delete 
  80. a large amount of data without emptying it first you may 
  81. find that you cannot restore some files from the Recycle 
  82. Bin when you need them again!

  85. The WinOptimizer Screen Saver
  86. -----------------------------
  87. This product is shipped with a special screen saver that 
  88. can optimize your system automatically whenever it 
  89. activates. When you install it, it appears in the Screen 
  90. Saver list in the Display Properties as "WinOptimizer 
  91. 99 DELUXE".

  93. Since some users may not wish to use this function the 
  94. screen saver is not installed automatically. You can
  95. choose to install it together with WinOptimizer by 
  96. selecting the appropriate option in the setup program.

  98. Please see the enclosed documentation for information on 
  99. the screen saverÆs capabilities and how to configure and 
  100. use it.

  102. WARNING: If you configure the screen saver to delete 
  103. unnecessary files please take care that it doesnÆt 
  104. activate automatically while you are installing 
  105. applications! Installation programs often create 
  106. temporary files and folders that the screen saver will 
  107. believe are unnecessary, and this can lead to problems, 
  108. causing the installation to abort.

  110. The best solution is to always DEACTIVATE the screen 
  111. saver before installing software. Alternatively, you can 
  112. set the activation period to a high value that will make 
  113. sure that the screen saver does not activate.

  116. Issues with Windows 2000 (and above)
