- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
- ---------------------------------
-
- * Will my modem work with WillowPHONE?
-
- It will probably work if:
-
- - It is a voice modem (it should say so in your modem
- documentation), and
- - It comes with a Unimodem/V driver (actually an INF file
- that works with the Unimodem/V driver that comes with
- Windows 95). Unimodem/V is Microsoft's implementation
- of TAPI, the Windows 95 standard for how programs
- communicate with voice modems. (Note that a Unimodem
- driver is not enough; it needs Unimodem/V.)
-
- If it doesn't work with your modem, please contact your
- modem manufacturer to see if it offers Unimodem/V
- drivers. These may be downloaded from the modem maker's
- web site.
-
- * Why can't I hear the phone ring?
-
- It could be any of these:
-
- - The WillowPHONE flip phone is not launched and running
- (it must be running to work)
- - Your audio output is muted or turned down too low
- - Another program is playing audio which uses or
- conflicts with your wave driver, so the phone is
- blocked from playing the ring sound wave file
- - Your sound card wave audio is not working in general
-
- * Can I get Caller ID information for incoming calls using
- WillowPHONE?
-
- Yes, provided:
-
- - You have arranged with your local phone company to
- enable the Caller ID service on the phone line you have
- plugged into your voice modem
- - Your modem supports Caller ID (almost all modern voice
- modems do)
- - The person calling you has not blocked his ID from
- being sent when he calls you
-
- * What do I do if I hear feedback or squealing when I talk
- on the speakerphone?
-
- This is a function of your hardware, not your software. It
- happens when sound coming out of your speakers enters your
- microphone. To reduce it, you could:
-
- - Move the speakers and microphone farther apart
- - Turn down the speaker output volume
- - Turn down the microphone input level
- - Use a phone (handset) plugged into the modem instead of
- using the speakers and microphone
-
- * What can I do to record telephone calls?
-
- This depends on your hardware:
-
- - If your modem and sound card are on the same card or
- are somehow internally cabled together, you might be
- able to just select the telephone line as the input
- (recording) device for your sound card on your system's
- mixer component. If so, select that and then record
- normally using a capable recording program of your
- choice or Microsoft's built-in recorder.
- - If your modem and sound card are not physically
- connected in this way, you could try doing it yourself.
- You could try using a cable to plug your modem's
- speaker output connector into your sound card's LINE IN
- connector. Then you could select Line In (or whatever
- it is called on your sound card) as the input
- (recording) device in the your system's mixer
- component, and record normally using a capable
- recording program of your choice or Microsoft's built-in
- recorder.
-
- For help with this, please consult your hardware
- documentation or provider.
-
-
- Known Problems
- --------------
- As of October 29, 1998:
-
- Some modems will simply not be compatible with WillowPHONE.
- Please make sure your modem works with the Minimum System
- Requirements indicated above and that it, as well as
- appropriate driver(s), are installed and configured
- correctly. If you are not sure about your modem's
- capabilities and/or features, please contact your modem
- vendor - not us.
-
- As indicated above, some features are only available if you
- have ordered them from your telephone company.
-
- There are no other known problems at this time.
