Welcome to Firetalk! We hope you enjoy using the application that lets you make worldwide calls for free. Be sure to tell your friends and family about Firetalk.
Many of your questions and concerns can be answered by consulting the Firetalk User Guide. Click on the Help menu in the Firetalk application window and select Firetalk User Guide.
The Firetalk Welcome menu appears when you first launch Firetalk. Click the Quick Start button to see the Firetalk Quick Tour. It walks you through the hightlights of Firetalk's main features.
For issues that can't be resolved using the Help menu resources, send email to: support@firetalk.com. You can also visit the Firetalk Support Forum , or contact Firetalk Support and our Customer Service Specialists (designated by a CS in front of their name) from The Contact List.
When you begin usinging Firetalk, you will want to add users to your Contact List. Do this by clicking the Add/Find Contacts button. Enter the information you know about the person (name, nickname, email, and so forth) and click the Find button. When you locate the person, select their name and click Add User. They then appear in your Contact List.
When Firetalk users are online, a telephone appears along side their name. When the person's name is shaded and in italics with no telephone icon, they are offline. You can still send instant messages and leave voice messages for users who are offline.
There are several methods to call or send messages to an online user. You can click the phone icon next to their name. You can double-click their name and select Call, Send Voice Mail, or Send Instant Message. Or you can drag their name into the Call Area.
Once you're in a call with someone, just speak into your microphone or headset as if you were talking on the phone.
A speaker icon appears next to the name of whoever is speaking. The icon indicates the quality of the speaker's signal (red for poor, green for good, yellow for average).
You can place a call by clicking on the phone icon next to someone's name in your Contact List.
Double-click a person'a name in your Contact List to select Call, Send Instant Message or Sent Voice Message.
A Forum is a voice chat room where users join together for conversation. You can ignore any other user by clicking on theirname and selecting Mute Participant or Block Participant from the menu. you can create your own Forum by clicking on the Create button.
You can invite users to a call or Forum by dragging their names from your Contact List to the Participant List. To mute someone in a call or Forum, double-click on their name in the Active Call list and choose Mute Participant.
The Text Chat window allows you to share a text window with other users in your call, forum, or when using Talk & Surf. Open a Text Chat window at any time by clicking the Text Chat button in the lower right hand corner of the Firetalk window.
Click Talk and Surf launch button to open your browser and navigate to Web sites where you can meet other Firetalk users and chat while you surf. To learn more, click What Is Firetalk? on the Firetalk home page.
To answer an incoming call, click the Pick Up button or press CTRL-P on the keyboard.
To hang up a call, click the Hang Up button or press CTRL-H on the keyboard.
To place a call on hold, click the Hold button or press CTRL-O on the keyboard.
To toggle Push to Talk mode, open the Tools Menu, select Options, click the General tab, and check the Use Push to Talk box.
When using Push to Talk, you can use the Control key instead of pressing the Push to Talk button.
To send an Instant Message, double-click on a user's name in your contact list and select Send Instant Message from the Contact Options menu, or press CTRL-M on the keyboard to send one to those users you already have selected in your contact list.
To send an Instant Message while you are composing it, press CTRL-ENTER or ALT-S on the keyboard.
You can change your existing Firetalk login password from the View menu in the main Firetalk menu. Select View/Change Profile to open the User Profile page with your information.
To see personal information about a user, either click the down arrow along side their name in your Contact List, or right-click on their and choose View Info.
To enable Groups, right-click in the Contact List area and choose Enable Groups.
To share Firetalk with others you know, select the Tell a Friend option under the Tools menu. This sends your friend an email inviting them to download Firetalk. When your friend dowloads Firetalk, you are automatically added to each other's Contact List (this takes place the next time you log on).
