  5. This file contains some pieces of information that were not
  6. available by time of going to press of our manual.  Please read
  7. it thoroughly.

  10. Installation
  11. ============

  13. If you are installing SuSE Linux for the first time, please do take a look
  14. at the manual. If you don't have the manual available, a copy can be found
  15. in the /docu directory on the first CD in various formats :

  18.   ascci/suselxen  ASCII format

  22. !! Important: Please read the section about partitioning; !!
  23. !! if not, you risk loosing data ...                      !!

  25. The Linux installation is started from a running Linux system. 
  26. You can either boot directly from CD (if this is supported by
  27. your BIOS), or start Linux from DOS (by invoking setup.exe on the
  28. root directory on the first CD), or use the shipped boot-disk. 
  29. You may create your own set of boot-disk(s) if you encounter any
  30. problems with suse-boot-disk. The program setup.exe helps you
  31. creating these disk(s). If there is already a Linux up and
  32. running on your system you may of course create these disk(s) 
  33. with Linux.

  35. If the first CD is mounted to /cdrom you can create the necessary
  36. disk(s)  by entering:

  38.     dd if=/cdrom/disks/eide01 of=/dev/fd0
  39.  
  40. Hints on which disk to use in combination whith your hardware may
  41. be found on file in /cdrom/disks/README as well as in our
  42. manual.

  46. Libz
  47. ====

  49. Libz has been moved into another package. Therefore when updating
  50. a system containing libz you might see a warning during the
  51. update procedure. You can safely ignore this warning.
