  1. fips 2.0 und fips 1.5 :

  5. Im Unterverzeichnis fips20 befindet sich ein Werkzeug, mit 
  6. dessen Hilfe FAT16-, VFAT- und FAT32-Partitionen in der 
  7. Groesse veraendert werden koennen. Neben der Version 2.0 von 
  8. fips ist im Unterverzeichnis fips15 auch noch die 
  9. Version 1.5 beigefuegt. Sie beherrscht noch keine 
  10. FAT32-Partitionen. Die Version 2.0 zeigte sich in unseren 
  11. Versuchen sehr stabil. Da jedoch die Veraenderung eines 
  12. Dateisystems einen ernsthaften Eingriff bedeutet und da 
  13. sich die Version 1.5 ueber lange Zeit als sehr zuverlaessig
  14. erwiesen hat, haben wir uns entschlossen, auch diese Version
  15. mitzuliefern.

  17. Bitte beachten Sie, dass wir von der Vorgaengerversion 1.5c 
  18. (sie ist mit 2.0 weitestgehend identisch) einige wenige 
  19. Berichte bekommen haben, nach denen die Verwendung 
  20. dieses Programms zu einem  vollstaendigen Datenverlust fuehrte.

  22. Die Verwendung aller Versionen von fips erfolgt auf 
  23. eigene Gefahr !

  25. Es ist in jedem Fall sinnvoll, vor der Anwendung des
  26. Programms ein Backup aller wichtiger Daten zu erstellen.
  27. Bitte beachten Sie auch, dass erweiterte Partitionen mit
  28. Fips nicht bearbeitet werden koennen.

  30. Ggf. bietet sich die Verwendung eines kommerziellen 
  31. Programms zur Veraenderung der Partitionen an, wie z.B. 
  32. des System Commanders von V Communications Inc. 
  33. (siehe http://www.v-com.com/)

  35. Falls Sie mit fips 2.0 im Zusammenhang mit FAT32 auf 
  36. Schwierigkeiten der genannten Art stossen, waeren wir fuer 
  37. ein Feedback dankbar. Bitte teilen Sie uns in diesem Fall 
  38. die genauen Daten der Partitionen vor/nach der Anwendung 
  39. von fips 15c mit (Befehl 'fdisk -l'). Auch Details ueber 
  40. Ihre Hardware (welche Platte, ...) waeren wichtig. Senden 
  41. Sie ein solches Feedback bitte an feedback@suse.de. Bitte 
  42. beachten Sie, dass wir Supportanfragen zu FAT32 an diese 
  43. Adresse nicht beantworten koennen. Senden Sie solche Anfragen

  53. fips 2.0 and fips 1.5 :

  56. In the subdirectory fips20 you can find a tool for the resizing 
  57. of FAT16-, VFAT- and FAT32-filesystems. Along with version 2.0 
  58. of fips comes version 1.5, which is contained in the subdirectory 
  59. fips15. It can't handle FAT32, though.
  60.  
  61. In our own tests we encountered  no problems with v. 2.0, FAT32 
  62. filesystems could be resized flawlessly. Since changing the size 
  63. of a partition is a severe operation and since v. 1.5 ran smoothly 
  64. for a long time, we decided to also include this version.
  65.  
  66. Please note, that there are (very few) reports from our customers, 
  67. that the usage of fips 1.5c (which is almost identical with 2.0) 
  68. in conjunction with FAT32 might lead to a complete loss of data.

  70. Therefore : Use fips at your own risk !

  72. Before using fips 2.0, we highly recommend to create a backup of
  73. all important data. Please also note that fips can't handle 
  74. extended partitions.

  76. In some cases the usage of a commercial product such as the System
  77. Commander by V Communications Inc. (see http://www.v-com.com/ ) 
  78. might be a wise decision.
  79.  
  80. If you use fips 2.0 in conjunction with FAT32 and you come across 
  81. problems such as a loss of data, it would help us a lot if you 
  82. could send us some information about the circumstances of the crash.
  83. Please collect information such as the exact geometry of the 
  84. partitions (use 'fdisk -l') before and after the crash. We would 
  85. also be interested in the type of hardware that you use (what 
  86. disks, ...). Please send this information to feedback@suse.com .
