  29. 1.   Installation
  30.   
  31.   Logitech MouseWare supports Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT
  32.   4.0, and Windows 2000.
  33.   
  34.   Before installing any software under Windows NT 4.0, we
  35.   strongly recommend you create an Emergency Repair Disk using
  36.   the Repair Disk utility provided by the system (RDISK.EXE).
  37.   
  38.   Please note that USB mice are only supported under Windows 98
  39.   and Windows 2000.
  40.   
  41. 1.1  Standard Installation
  42.   
  43.   Run Setup.exe to install the Logitech MouseWare software.
  44.   
  45.   Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, and DOS users: Please refer to the
  46.   README.TXT contained in the "Win31x" folder on the MouseWare CD-
  47.   ROM.  To build the Windows 3.1x/DOS Logitech MouseWare disk,
  48.   copy all the files in the "Win31x" folder onto one blank 1.44MB
  49.   floppy.
  50.   
  51. 1.2  Drivers Only Installation
  52.   
  53.   You can load device drivers without running the Setup program.
  54.   Loading the device drivers this way, however, does not install
  55.   the Logitech Enhanced Mouse Control Center user interface.
  56.   
  57.   Please execute the following steps to perform a drivers-only
  58.   installation for Windows 2000:
  59.   
  60.   1)   Click on the "Start" button on the Windows Desktop.
  61.   2)   Select "Settings", then "Control Panel".
  62.   3)   From the Control Panel, double click on the "System" icon.
  63.   4)   From the System Properties, click on the "Hardware" tab.
  64.   5)   Click on the "Device Manager" button.
  65.   6)   From the Device Manager, double click the "Mouse" icon.
  66.   7)   Double click on the Mouse Type icon.
  67.   8)   From the Mouse Properties dialog box, click on the "Driver"
  68.      tab, then click on the "Update Driver" button.
  69.   9)   From the "Update Device Driver Wizard", click the "Next"
  70.      button.
  71.   10)  Click on the radio button next to:
  72.         "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so
  73.        that I can choose a specific driver"
  74.   11)  Click on the "Next" button.
  75.   12)  Click on the "Have Disk" button.
  76.   13)  When prompted, click the "Browse" button.
  77.   14)  From the "Locate File" dialog box, go to the "Win2000"
  78.      folder on the MouseWare Disk/CD-ROM.
  79.   15)  Click the "Open" button.
  80.   16)  From the "Install From Disk" dialog box, click the "OK"
  81.      button.
  82.   17)  Under "Manufacturers", select "Logitech".
  83.   18)  Under "Models", select the correct model that matches the
  84.      pointing device type and click on the "Next" button.
  85.   19)  If the "Update Driver Warning" appears, click on the "Yes"
  86.      button.
  87.   20)  Click on the "Next" button.
  88.   21)  Windows should now copy the updated mouse drivers to the
  89.      system.
  90.   22)  Click on the "Finish" button.
  91.   23)  Click on the "Close" button.
  92.   24)  Windows should now ask you to restart the system for the
  93.      changes to take effect, click on "Yes" to restart the system.
  94.   
  95.   Please execute the following steps to perform a drivers-only
  96.   installation for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0:
  97.   
  98.   1)   Click on the "Start" button on the Windows Desktop.
  99.   2)   Select "Settings", then "Control Panel".
  100.   3)   From the Control Panel, double click on the "Mouse" icon.
  101.   4)   Select the "General" tab.
  102.   5)   From the "General" tab, click on "Change".
  103.   6)   Insert the MouseWare Disk/CD-ROM into the disk drive.
  104.   7)   Click the "Have Disk" button.
  105.   8)   When prompted, click the Browse button.
  106.   9)   Depending on the operating system double click on the
  107.      following folder on the MouseWare Disk/CD-ROM:
  108.      a)   Win95, for Windows 95 (or OSR2)
  109.      b)   WinNT, for Windows NT 4.0
  110.   10)  Click the "Open" or "OK" button.
  111.   11)  Click on the "OK" button.
  112.   12)  Select "Show all Devices"
  113.   13)  Under "Models", select the correct model that matches the
  114.      pointing device type and click on the "OK" button.
  115.   14)  Windows should now copy the updated mouse drivers to the
  116.      system.
  117.   15)  Click on "Close".
  118.   16)  Windows should now ask you to restart the system for the
  119.      changes to take effect, click on "Yes" to restart the system.

  121.   Please execute the following steps to perform a drivers-only
  122.   installation for Windows 98:
  123.   
  124.   25)  Click on the "Start" button on the Windows 98 Desktop.
  125.   26)  Select "Settings", then "Control Panel".
  126.   27)  From the Control Panel, double click on the "System" icon.
  127.   28)  Select the "Device Manager" tab.
  128.   29)  Double click on the "Mouse" icon.
  129.   30)  Double click on the Mouse Type icon.
  130.   31)  Click on the "Driver" Tab.
  131.   32)  Click on the "Update Driver" button.
  132.   33)  From the "Update Device Driver Wizard" box, click the "Next"
  133.      button.
  134.   34)  Click on the radio button next to:
  135.         "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific
  136.        location, so you can select the driver you want."
  137.   35)  Click on the "Next" button.
  138.   36)  Insert the MouseWare Disk/CD-ROM into the drive.
  139.   37)  Click on the "Have Disk" button.
  140.   38)  When prompted, click the "Browse" button.
  141.   39)  Double Click on the "Win98" folder.
  142.   40)  Click the "OK" button.
  143.   41)  Click the "OK" button again.
  144.   42)  Under "Models", select the correct model that matches the
  145.      pointing device type and click on the "Next" button.
  146.   43)  Click the "Next" button, then click on "Next" again.
  147.   44)  Click on the "Finish" button.
  148.   45)  Windows 98 may request that you restart your system. Click
  149.      on the "Yes" button to restart.

  152. 2.   Uninstall Program
  153.   
  154.   MouseWare can be removed from Windows (except Windows 3.1x) by
  155.   clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.
  156.   Select Logitech MouseWare and click the "Remove" button.
  157.   
  158.   Windows 9x
  159.   Logitech MouseWare drivers will be removed from the system if
  160.   setup finds alternate compatible drivers for a device in
  161.   MSMOUSE.INF.  Should this not be the case you can manually
  162.   change the driver to another one as described in section 1.2.

  165. 3.   Troubleshooting
  166.   
  167. 3.1  Detection Issues with USB Mice
  168.   
  169.   Please note that USB mice are only supported under Windows 98
  170.   and Windows 2000.
  171.   
  172.   If your USB mouse is not detected properly or does not
  173.   functions, please use the following steps to check the Mouse
  174.   icon under the Device Manager.
  175.   
  176.   Click on "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel".  Double
  177.   click on the System icon and select the Device Manager tab.
  178.   Open the Mouse icon by clicking on the (+) plus sign and verify
  179.   there is a mouse icon that states, "HID-compliant mouse", and
  180.   another entry that states the name of your USB device.  If
  181.   there are any errors reported on these icons by exclamation
  182.   points or red X's, highlight these icons and click the "Remove"
  183.   button.   Once these icons have been removed, click the
  184.   "Refresh" button and allow Windows 98 to re-detect the pointing
  185.   device.  Open the Mouse icon again and verify that there are no
  186.   errors reported.  Power down the computer system and restart
  187.   Windows.  Test the USB device to see if it is now functional.
  188.   
  189. 3.2  Detection Problems with PS/2 Pointing Devices
  190.   
  191.   If your mouse is connected to the mouse port and is not
  192.   detected by the system, attempt the following step(s):
  193.     
  194.   1) Your mouse port might need to be enabled through the SETUP
  195.      menu of your computer.  Please check your computer
  196.      documentation regarding the SETUP menu.
  197.   
  198.   2) If you have a mouse with both serial and mouse port
  199.      adapters, connect the mouse to the computer through the
  200.      serial port.  Reboot and check if the mouse is detected
  201.      properly.
  202.   
  203.   3) If adapter(s) were not included in your package, your mouse
  204.      was designed to work on only one type of port (Serial OR
  205.      PS/2).  Refer to your package for the type of port your
  206.      mouse supports.
  207.   
  208.   If the problem persists, please check for a possible computer
  209.   BIOS ROM upgrade from your computer manufacturer.
  210.   
  211.   Some notebook systems, such as IBM ThinkPad, have both an
  212.   external Mouse Port and an integrated Pointing Stick, which is
  213.   connected to the Mouse Port.  If your mouse is having
  214.   difficulty running on the Mouse Port of this type of system,
  215.   try using the serial port instead.
  216.   
  217. 3.3  Detection of C-Series Pointing devices under Windows 9x
  218.   
  219.   If you are using a C-Series device on a serial port and it is
  220.   not detected by Windows 9x, you may need to change an entry in
  221.   the Windows 9x Registry.  C-Series devices can identified by
  222.   the following model numbers (M/N:), located on the bottom of
  223.   the device:  T-CA1, C7, CA, CC, and CE.
  224.   
  225.   1)   Click on the "Start" button on the Windows 9x Desktop and
  226.      select "Run".
  227.   2)   On the "Open" line, type "regedit" and click on the "OK"
  228.      button.
  229.   3)   From the Registry Editor screen, double click on:
  230.      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  231. 4)   Double click on SOFTWARE.
  232.   5)   Double click on Logitech.
  233.   6)   Double click on MouseWare.
  234. 7)   Double click on CurrentVersion.
  235.   8)   Single click on Technical and information should be
  236.      displayed on the right side of the Registry Editor screen.
  237.   9)   Under the Name column, double click on the "SearchCSeries"
  238.      entry and the Edit String Dialogue box should appear.
  239. 10)  Modify the Value Data line to read "On", and click the "OK"
  240. button
  241.   
  242.   Exit the Registry editor and restart Windows 98.  The C-Series
  243.   device should now be detected.
  244.   
  245. 3.4  Detection of BUS Pointing Devices under Windows 9x
  246.   
  247.   If you are using a BUS device and it is not detected by
  248.   Windows 9x you may need to change an entry in the Windows 9x
  249.   Registry.  BUS devices can identified by the following model
  250.   numbers (M/N:), located on the bottom of the device:
  251.   T-PA1, PK32, PD13, P7, Hi-Rez, P8, and PA.
  252.   
  253.     1)   Click on the "Start" button on the Windows 9x Desktop and
  254.        select "Run".
  255.     2)   On the "Open" line, type "regedit" and click on the "OK"
  256.        button.
  257.     3)   From the Registry Editor screen, double click on:
  258.        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  259.     4)   Double click on SOFTWARE.
  260.     5)   Double click on Logitech.
  261. 6)   Double click on MouseWare.
  262.     7)   Double click on CurrentVersion.
  263.     8)   Single click on Global and information should be displayed
  264.        on the right side of the Registry Editor screen.
  265. 9)   Under the Name column, double click on the "SearchOrder"
  266. entry and the Edit String Dialogue box should appear.
  267.     10)  Modify the Value Data line and add "Bus", and click the "OK"
  268.        button. It should now read as follows:
  269.             PS2, Serial, Bus
  270.   
  271.   Exit the Registry editor and restart Windows 98.  The Bus
  272.   device should now be detected.
  273.   
  274. 3.5  Conflicts with Modems and other Serial Devices
  275.   
  276.   On bootup, the Logitech mouse drivers search all PS/2 and COM
  277.  ports for possible pointing devices.  If your modem or other
  278.  serial device no longer functions after installing Logitech
  279.  mouse drivers, you must eliminate the COM port your modem is on
  280.  from the search as shown below.
  281.   
  282.   1) Windows 9x
  283.      If you have problems operating other serial devices together
  284.      with MouseWare, in Windows 95 run "Regedit.exe", edit the
  285.      key:
  286.      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersio
  287.      n\Global\PortSearchOrder and remove the COM port that the
  288.      affected serial device is using.
  289.   
  290.   2) Windows NT 4.0
  291.      If you have problems operating other serial devices together
  292.      with MouseWare, in Windows NT 4.0 run "Regedit.exe", edit
  293.      the key:
  294.      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lsermou
  295.      s\Parameters\Global\PortSearchOrder and remove the COM port
  296.      that the affected serial device is using.
  297.   
  298. 3.6  Power Management Problems
  299.   
  300.   If your mouse freezes when waking your PC up from suspend, in
  301.   Windows 9x run "Regedit.exe", then open the registry key:
  302.   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion\T
  303.   echnical\APMMode
  304.   and set APMMode="Off"
  305.  
  306. 3.7  Logitech Enhanced Mouse Control Panel is not Updated
  307.   
  308.   Under Windows 9x if the Mouse properties has not been updated
  309.   to Logitech Enhanced Mouse Control Center, verify you have
  310.   installed MouseWare.  If this does not resolve this issue, it
  311.   may be necessary to do a registry clean-up.  Remove the
  312.   following folders in the Windows 9x Registry.
  313.   
  314.   Select the "Start" button, then "Run".  In the "Open" line type
  315.   "regedit", and click on the OK button.
  316.   
  317.   Open the following Registry folders:
  318.   
  319.   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Mous
  320.   e\xxxx
  321.   
  322.   Remove all of the 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. under the Mouse folder
  323.   until there are no folders remaining under the Mouse folder.
  324.   Now shutdown your system and restart.  Open the Mouse
  325.   Properties and check to see if you now have the Enhanced
  326.   Logitech Mouse Control Center.
  327.   
  328.   
  329. 3.8  Scrolling/wheel related issues
  330.   
  331.   If your mouse is equipped with a wheel and the wheel does not
  332.   scroll, verify the following:
  333.   
  334.   1)   Verify that the Logitech control panel is installed
  335.     properly.  If you click the Start button and select Settings,
  336.     Control Panel, the mouse icon should bring up a Logitech control
  337.     panel.  Otherwise reinstall MouseWare.
  338.   
  339.   2)   If your wheel only works in Microsoft Office compatible
  340.     applications, go to the Buttons page in the mouse control panel
  341.     and verify that the check box "Use MS Office Compatible Scroll
  342.     Only" is unchecked.
  343.   
  344.  Please note that the scrolling mouse functions for touchpads do
  345.  only work with Logitech touchpads.  This is the case if you can
  346.  find a "Touchpad" tab in the mouse control panel.
  347.  Alternatively you can search for the following key in the
  348.  registry:
  349.  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion\T
  350.  ouchScroll.
  351.   In order to look at the registry click the "Start" button and
  352.   select "Run". Type "regedit" in the "Open" line and click on
  353.   the OK button.
  354.   Note that the information in the Mouseware help file concerning
  355.   touchpad support only applies to Logitech touchpads.
  356.  
  357. 3.9  Cordless Desktop
  358.   
  359.   1) Keyboard loses connection with system
  360.      This can occur if the keyboard channel button is pressed
  361.      while the system is turned off or in suspend mode.  Turn the
  362.      system on or resume from suspend and press the keyboard
  363.      channel button located on the right side of the keyboard.
  364.      If the keyboard still does not work, follow the "Connect
  365.      procedure" on the Easy Installation card enclosed with this
  366.      package.
  367.   
  368.   2) Pressing Connect has no response from software
  369.      If you receive no response from the software after the
  370.      connect button is pressed, please do the following:
  371.      - Wait at least 30 seconds before pressing the connect
  372.        button again.
  373.      - Check to see if your mouse and keyboard are working. If
  374.        they are working, you do not need to reconnect them.
  375.      - Press the connect button on the receiver and then press
  376.        the channel button on one of the devices. If the connect
  377.        button flashes, the device did connect successfully.
  378.      
  379.      If the devices are still not working, do the following:
  380.      - Shut down your system
  381.      - Remove the batteries from the devices
  382.      - Restart your system
  383.      - Put the batteries back into the devices
  384.      - Perform the connect procedure again.
  385.   
  386.   3) Keyboard Only Connected -- no cordless features
  387.      If the keyboard is connected to the computer without the
  388.      cordless mouse, you will not receive any cordless software
  389.      features for the keyboard.  This includes the Cordless Page
  390.      in Keyboard Properties, battery status and task bar icons.
  391.   
  392.   4) Battery Status
  393.      - Battery Status Low message appears after little use of the
  394.        keyboard.
  395.        Make sure you are using alkaline batteries in both the
  396.        mouse and keyboard.  If you are using alkaline batteries
  397.        and the message still appears, change the batteries in the
  398.        device.
  399.   
  400.      - Battery Status unknown message appears for the keyboard.
  401.        The battery status for the keyboard is activated after 100
  402.        keystrokes. Providing the keyboard is working as expected,
  403.        this message is not a problem.  If the keyboard is not
  404.        working, please follow the connect procedure instructions
  405.        on the enclosed Easy Installation Card.
  406.   
  407.   5) Mouse cursor is erratic
  408.   Replace batteries.
  409.   
  410.   6) Keyboard misses keystrokes or keys repeat
  411.   Replace batteries.
  412.   
  413. 3.10 "Error Starting Program" Message
  414.   
  415.   The following error message may appear near the end of the
  416.  MouseWare installation on a Windows 95 system, "The
  417.  WEBCOLCT.EXE file is linked to missing export
  418.  OLEAUT32.DLL:227".  If you experience this error message, we
  419.  suggest you install the latest version of the DCOM95 for
  420.  Windows 95.  This file is available free of charge from
  421.  Microsoft website at
  422.  http://www.microsoft.com/com/resources/downloads.asp.
  423.   After installing the DCOM95 file, you must run the MouseWare
  424.  installation again.
  425.   
  426. 3.11 Restricted functionality of WebWheel with the AOL 4.0 or 5.0
  427. browser
  428.   
  429.   When programming the WebWheel within the AOL browser, using the
  430.  CTRL-CLICK function on one of the user-assignable items of the
  431.  WebWheel may not automatically retrieve the desired URL.  To
  432.  work around this issue, you will need to manually type in the
  433.  desired URL and its designated name in the edit boxes provided
  434.  (e.g. Logitech, http://www.logitech.com).  By default, both
  435.  edit boxes will contain the current assignment.
