  44. The Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2000 Translator for PowerPoint 95 enables users of 
  45. PowerPoint 95 to open presentations that were saved in PowerPoint 97-2000 format. Once 
  46. you've installed the translator, PowerPoint 95 automatically recognizes 
  47. and opens PowerPoint 97 presentations.

  49. INSTALLATION
  50. ============

  52. Installation of PowerPoint Translator is designed to take place from within 
  53. the Microsoft Windows operating system. If Windows is not running, please start it before 
  54. continuing. Before you start, make sure that you close all open applications, and that you are not running any utilities or virus protection software.

  56. Run the Setup.exe program on the PowerPoint Translator installation disc, then
  57. follow the instructions to complete the installation.

  59. NOTE: When installing under Microsoft Windows NT 3.51, and once the installation has completed, you will have to rename the translator from "pp8trn32.dll" to "pp8trans32.dll."

  61. FEATURES
  62. ========

  64. The PowerPoint Translator enables PowerPoint 95 and the PowerPoint 95 
  65. viewer to read PowerPoint 97-2000 files. Once the translator is installed, 
  66. PowerPoint 95 automatically recognizes PowerPoint 97 files. When the files are opened, they will be in PowerPoint 95 format. Any special features of PowerPoint 97 will be lost.

  68. Special features of PowerPoint 97-2000 include:

  70. * The Title Master
  71. * Preset Shading
  72. * Picture Backgrounds
  73. * Textured Backgrounds
  74. * Animation Settings (some, and on a per-object basis).

  76. Features will be translated as closely as possible with 
  77. PowerPoint 95 functionality. 
  78.  
  79. For maximum visual fidelity, it is recommended that you save a presentation in 
  80. PowerPoint 95 format. To do this, please complete the following steps within Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2000:

  82. 1) On the File menu, click Save As.
  83. 2) In the Save As Type box, click PowerPoint 95.
  84. 3) Click Save.

  89. For the revised year 2000 release of the PowerPoint translator, the display of two digit years is now fully supported 
  90. through and beyond the year 2000 .  For additional information see www.microsoft.com/y2k.

  92. ASIAN SUPPORT

  95. The Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2000 Translator for PowerPoint 95 supports Asian
  96. versions of Microsoft PowerPoint-specifically, Japanese, Korean and Traditional
  97. Chinese versions. File conversions are supported only within the
  98. same language. For example, the Japanese version of PowerPoint 95 can convert
  99. a Japanese PowerPoint 97-2000 file but not a Korean file.

  104. The Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2000 Translator for PowerPoint 95 now supports proper conversions of text containing characters from Central and Eastern European Languages including Greek, Turkish and Russian.
