-
- 3. Requirements for Using Windows NT Security
- ---------------------------------------------
-
- TriActive Remote Manager (TRM) running under Windows 95/98
- contains a feature that allows TRM to authenticate against
- a Windows NT domain. In order to use this feature, Windows 95/98
- must be configured for User-Level access control.
-
- User-Level access control can be enabled as follows:
-
- 1. Go to the Start Menu->Settings->Control Panel.
- 2. Open the Network control panel.
- 3. Select the "Access Control" tab
- 4. Select "User-level access control"
- 5. Enter the Windows NT domain name in the box to obtain the list of users and groups.
- 6. Click OK
- 7. Reboot your system when prompted.
- 8. After reboot, install TriActive Remote Manager.
-
- 4. Installing TriActive Remote Manager
- ----------------------------------------
-
- To install TriActive Remote Manager, run the setup program either
- by double clicking the self-extrating executable in Windows explorer
- or launching from the Start->Run menu.
-
- 5. Uninstalling TriActive Remote Manager
- ----------------------------------------
-
- To uninstall TriActive Remote Manager, from the Start button do the following:
-
- Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs
-
- Choose "TriActive Remote Manager" from the list of software
- in the Add/Remove dialog and press the "Add/Remove..." button.
- The software will automatically stop the TriActive Remote Manager
- if it is running and remove all associated software and registry settings from the machine.
-
- 6. Known Problems and Issues
- ----------------------------
-
- Demo Warning:
- The demo or trial version of the software is a time-limited "demo" release
- of TriActive Remote Manager. This means that this product will cease to work
- at the end of the trial period. TriActive Technologies makes no warranty as
- to continued availability of demo or beta versions.
-
- The production available for purchase has no such limitations.
-
- Known problems:
-
- - Browsing the Network Neighborhood does not display remote printers in the Network Neighborhood.
-
- - When browsing remote file systems via the Network Neighborhood, attempting
- to return to the remote root jumps to the top of Network Neighborhood.
-
- - Web editing of text files is not currently supported using IE 3.X.
-
- - There are several primarily cosmetic issues with displays configured
- for monochrome monitors. In particular, screen snapshots don't work.
-
- - Screen snapshots between systems with different color depths are problematic.
-
- - Installing a TRM upgrade overwrites any existing log file.
-
- - Some issues involving IE5 and mime type during file downloads are currently
- being explored. While still functional, the IE5 behaviour is confusing and needs to be improved.
-
- Issues:
-
- - Browser caching can produce misleading results. For best results,
- configure your browser for no caching.
-
- - For security reasons, the trial (demo) version of TRM cannot be used
- to control an unattended PC, unless that PC supports NT authentication.
- This restriction is removed in the production version available for purchase.
-
- - The results of certain DOS programs executed as commands (such as ftp)
- don't get piped back correctly to the remote user.
-
- - Downloaded files other than .txt often aren't assigned correct MIME types.
-
- - The TRM NetMeeting Control Console sends periodic updates and prevents
- an idle timeout of TRM. Also, with the NetMeeting feature running,
- some screen savers on the browsing machine may not behave normally.
- This appears to be an issue with NetMeeting itself, but is under investigation.
-
- - NTLM ("NT challenge and response") authentication requires "Keep-Alive",
- some older proxy servers or some proxy configurations may prohibit this,
- preventing authentication in this mode.
-
