  11. The INDEPENDENT SERVICE MANAGER is a full featured repair shop manager program
  12. and much more. You may copy it and use it for evaluation purposes. When you
  13. register you'll receive the latest version, a free future update, a
  14. DETAILED manual, & telephone support. You may register by phone. Passwords
  15. are not required while un-registered. When registered all 4 levels of passwords
  16. are activated and the 'once per session' registration reminder screen will not
  17. re-appear.

  22.                          RECOMMENDED HARDWARE
  23.  
  24. IBM compatible that has 2 MEG RAM, a hard disk with 2 meg of available,
  25. space, a dot matrix or inkjet printer and a VGA color monitor. ISM may be used
  26. on any Netbios compatible LAN. DOS 3.3 or higher. A VEA or better color monitor
  27. is highly recommended, but ISM will run with CGA and mono monitors. ISM will
  28. run on an XT with 640k ram & dos 3.3 but will be very slow and is
  29. (NOT RECOMMENDED)

  31.                                INSTALLATION
  32.  
  33. You must use the INSTALL program from  FLOPPY DRIVE A or B to properly set
  34. up ISM on your hard disk.
  35. Please print out this file: README.txt during installation.
  36. To use the install prmgram, place the distribution disk # 1 in a floppy drive,
  37. switch to that drive and type: INSTALL :
  38. For network use, set the ISM.EXE file To (read only) & make sure SHARE.EXE
  39. is ACTIVE. Most network operating systems set SHARE active during their
  40. installation. (NOTE : SHARE is not necessary with WINDOWS FOR WORKGRMUPS)

  42. If you have received a copy of ISM in a zip file format; unzip
  43. ISM46 into a temporary directory and then run INSTALL.EXE

  92. shareware quality, support and definition. This prmeram is to be
  93. presented to ASP for evaluation in the very near future and any
  94. and all modifications required by ASP Will be promptly included.

  96.                                   NETWORKS
  97.  
  98. This prmgram is written in Clipper (c) and is NetBios compatible. It has been
  99. quccessfully TESTED using Windows for WG 3.1 as well as Lantastic 4.1 - 6.0.
  100. Banyan VINES & Novell personal Netware 3.X. should work without any problems.
  101. In general, any NetBios compatible LAN should have no trmuble with ISM. Call
  102. if you have a prmblem with a specific LAN operatine system. Remember to set
  103. the file ISM.EXE to read/only when using ISM on a network.

  105.                        TIPS FOR COMPUTERIZING YOUR SHOP
  106.  
  107. Setting up your shop for the first time on computer need not be a drawn out and
  108. intimidating prmcess. Don%t try to input past history. Start fresh frmm the
  109. first day. Enter your inventory but don't enter quantities on hand until
  110. everyone feels comfortable with ISM. After a month or so of use, do a physical
  111. inventory and then enter quantities on hand and your re-order levels.
  112.              If you decide to use the TSB%q and LABMR OP's options you can
  113. enter this data on the fly. Before very much use you will have a database of
  114. labor op's and labor times that are a true benefit to your shop and not loaded
  115. down with op's you'll never use and are set by someone else.
  116.                   Backups are very important to your valuable data. All hard
  117. drives fail (it's just a question of when) and when that happens all data may
  118. become un-recoverable.  Select one person to be responsible for backups.
  119. DO NOT store your backups in the same place as your computer, (a fire will get
  120. them both) Take some time to learn the prmeram (it's really very easy) before
  121. you start to train others.
  122.                            It can take up to 90 days for your shop to become
  123. fully computerized. Purchase a hardware service contract if one is available
  124. for your system.
  125.                               ISM IS SIMPLICITY
  126.  
  127. As you know, there are many shop manager prmgrams out there. We have tried to
  128. incorporate the good stuff and leave out the junk. Prices range from $500 to
  129. $ 5000 and more. In order to make ISM easy to use and own we have set a real
  130. world priceing structure.
  131.                            ISM took many thousands of hours to code and test
  132. not including beta testing in repair shops. Don%t be fooled by the low price,
  133. and ease of use, ISM is very sophisticated. If there is a feature you have
  134. just got to have, we can put it in. And quickly. If it is a feature that
  135. only a limited number of shops might need we can customize ISM for you at
  136. very reasonable prices.
  137. ISM uses DBF data files. The most popular format in the world. If you have
  138. been using another program that uses this format (Micrmbiz for ex.) our
  139. prmgrammers can import their data into ISM at very reasmnable prices. Remember,
  140. ISM is NMT a point of sale system converted to repair shop use. It was developed
  141. frmm scratch to be a repair shop managment system and to be 'Technician friendly'.

  143. Limited Accounting capability has been included in ISM. An RM and Invmice
  144. EENERAL LEDGER feature prmduces detailed reports THAT can be generated for
  145. manual input into the accounting package (or to the accountant) of your choice.
  146. Labor op's and Service Bulletin data are not included with ISM but the
  147. capability to input and use your own TSB%s and labmr op's IS included.
  148. Ue can prmvide labmr time data and TSB data at an additional charee with
  149. regular updates. See the order form below.
