  67.    This package is written for health professionals and others
  68.    who must routinely do drug calculations. There are two
  69.    applications in this package:

  77. A facility has been provided to keep a record of scores for
  78. individuals or groups of users. Open the file 'dcfile.ini'
  79. for further instructions on customising Drug Calculations
  80. for Nurses to create test conditions or to track student

  84. Drug Calculations for Nurses

  87.    This program generates drug calculation questions and
  88.    solutions and presents them to the user in the form of
  89.    a test. Users select from a menu of question types e.g.
  90.   1. Metric conversion
  91.   2. Tablet dosages
  92.   3. Fluid dosages
  93.   4. IV Flow rates
  94.   5. Setting an IV
  95.   6. Determining IV flow by counting drops
  96.    Additional tests can be created using the 'Teachers Tools'
  97.    package.

  99.    The tablet and fluid dosages are generated from a database
  100.    of drugs which include usual dose ranges.

  102.    The IV calculations use a graphical simulation of an IV
  103.    Burette to assist in visualising the flow rate.

  105.    A solution is generated which shows how the answer was
  106.    calculated.

  108.    Online help is available to the user by pressing "F1".

  110. Teachers Tools

  113.    This is one program which consists of two applications:
  114.    1. Drug Database
  115.       Users may access, add, delete, change, or re-categorise the
  116.       drugs used for constructing questions. Information such
  117.       as generic and trade names, usual dose range, usual
  118.       increments, dose form and preparation may be entered.

  120.    2. Question Construction Set
  121.       This application allows users to generate an entire test
  122.       complete with help, instructions, description and solutions.
  123.       The test can be included in the Drug Calculations menu by
  124.       saving the file in the Drug Calculations directory and
  125.       'checking' an option. Alternatively the test may be saved
  126.       as a text file and accessed by a word processor. This
  127.       application was designed for use by teachers. The user may
  128.       generate questions using a question generator or they may
  129.       write their own.

  163.    These programs are written for Windows 3.1 (and above).
  164.    At least 2 Meg of Hard Disk space is required as well
  165.    as 4 Meg of RAM (although they may still run with
  166.    less). The program has not been tested on machines with
  167.    a clock speed of less than 100 Mhz.

  170. Installation
  171. ============

  173. 1. Floppy disk
  174.    On Windows 95 systems, the user should always install software using
  175.    Add/Remove Programs, which is located in the Control Panel.
  176.    You can find Control Panel on the Start Settings menu.
  177.    Once the you launch Add/Remove Programs, all you have to do is
  178.    load your disk and click on the Install push button.
  179.    Windows 95 will automatically locate the setup and prompt the user.
  180.  
  181.    On Windows 3.1 or NT systems, you can launch setup using
  182.    a DOS prompt or File Manager.  From a DOS prompt, the user can go to
  183.    the drive containing the distribution disk and type "Setup".
  184.    In File Manager, the user can click on the icon of the drive
  185.    containing the distribution disk, then double-click on the
  186.    SETUP.EXE filename.
  187.    After installing your application, you will be able to uninstall
  188.    it using Add/Remove Programs (Windows 95) or the
  189.    Uninstall icon (Windows 3.1 and NT).

  191. 2. Zipped File (Obtained on the internet, a BBS or CD)
  192.    Unzip the contents of the file in a temporary directory.
  193.    See the details of your 'zip' application for details on
  194.    how to do this. If you have a windows program such as
  195.    'Winzip' this usually just involves clicking on the file.
  196.    Run the program 'Setup.exe' in the temporary directory
  197.    (using Windows Explorer or File Manager, click on the
  198.    program).

  203.    The install program will create a program manager group (Win 3.1)
  204.    or a start menu group (Win 95) which will contain icons
  205.    for Drug Calculations for Nurses, Teachers Tools and Help.
