  60. Autochk.exe has been updated with a version which will
  61. attempt to take a snapshot every 24 hours.  Autochk.exe
  62. minimizes to the system tray when it is running.  The 
  63. configcheck dll is loaded by autocheck when a snapshot
  64. is attempted and then is unloaded until another snapshot
  65. is attempted to minimize system resource requirements.  
  66. Note: Systems which are configured to have a snapshot taken 
  67. each time Windows starts will have a snapshot performed each 
  68. time autocheck attempts a snapshot.

  70. Two entries have been added to the cfgsafe.ini
  71. file, in the [cfgsafe] section.
  72.  
  73. "AutochkTimer"=24
  74. The number of hours between attempts by autocheck to take
  75. a snapshot of the system.  A value of 0 will cause autocheck
  76. to terminate after attempting a snapshot.  The default is
  77. to perform a snapshot every 24 hours.

  79. "AutochkCanStop"=1
  80. If set to 1 the autocheck tray icon will pop up a message
  81. box if the user issues a mouse click on the tray icon.  The
  82. message box will allow the user to terminate autocheck.
  83. If set to 0 the autocheck tray icon will not display a
  84. terminate program message box.  The default is 1, to
  85. allow the user to terminate autocheck.

  88. Allow horizontal scrolling of entries in list boxes.
  89. Only launch text editor when a file entry is double-clicked
  90. if the "Now" snapshot is selected in the "Changes Ending" field.

  97. In addition to correcting known anomalies, ConfigSafe v1.05
  98. provides password security for the RESTORE feature, minimize
  99. to Task Bar, icon flags designating scheduled and imported
  100. snapshots, and introduces the EXPORT and IMPORT features.

  103. PASSWORD SECURITY FOR RESTORE
  104.  
  105. The RESTORE feature now provides password security.  A
  106. password can be set or reset by clicking on the 
  107. MANAGE Snapshot, Set Password button.  The current master
  108. password is "7129WXRV" which can be used if a user's
  109. password is forgotten.  RESTORE Password Security can be
  110. disabled by placing the following line in the CFGSAFE.INI
  111. file, [CFGSAFE] section:

  115. MINIMIZE TO TASK BAR

  117. When minimized, ConfigSafe now displays as an item on the Task Bar.

  120. ICON FLAG DESIGNATORS
  121.  
  122. The Manage Snapshot window now includes icons to designate scheduled
  123. and imported snapshots.  When a scheduled snapshot is highlighted,
  124. the autocheck icon appears, when an imported snapshot is highlighted,
  125. the import icon appears.

  127. EXPORT and IMPORT FEATURES
  128.  
  129. EXPORT enables the user to save ConfigSafe snapshots to
  130. local and networked drives, or to diskette. In other words,
  131. the valuable information stored in a ConfigSafe snapshot may
  132. be "exported" from the application to alternate locations
  133. for safekeeping or for comparison of configurations between
  134. systems.
  135. Note: some snapshots may be too large to fit on a single
  136. diskette. If that is the case, the export to diskette option
  137. will not be available for those snapshots.

  139. IMPORT allows the user to load previously exported snapshots
  140. back into the ConfigSafe application.

  146. INSTALLING ConfigSafe

  151. Installing ConfigSafe onto your computer will copy the
  152. software to the designated directory and create a snapshot
  153. (capture your configuration) of your system.  ConfigSafe 
  154. requires approximately 5.0 Mb of disk space for the sofware.
  155. It is recommended that approximately 10Mb be reserved for
  156. storing configuration information.

  159. Installation Procedure

  162. 1. Insert the installation diskette into your diskette drive.
  163.  
  164. 2. Select the run option from the File pull-down menu in the Windows
  165.    Program Manager.
  166.  
  167. 3. Enter the following in the Run dialog box:

  169.       A:\INSTALL
  170.  
  171. 4. You will be asked to select a directory to which the 
  172.    ConfigSafe software will be copied.  You may choose the 
  173.    default directory or enter a different location.

  185. VIEWING CHANGES TO YOUR SYSTEM

  188. ConfigSafe lets you view the changes which have been made to
  189. your system configuration during any given time period.  
  190. Press just one button and you'll have access to all the changes
  191. which have been made to your:
  192.   - Configuration files (system.ini, etc.)
  193.   - Registry(1) - Windows 95 Configuration Manager (Windows 95 only)
  194.   - System Hardware - Drives, memory, processor, and more
  195.   - Software - Updates and deleted files in your DOS and Windows dir.

  197.   Selecting the Time Frame

  199.   On the main screen you select the time period for which you wish to
  200.   identify configuration changes.   ConfigSafe will show you the 
  201.   changes made to the system in that time period.

  206.   Viewing the Changes for Different Information

  208.   The toolbar at the top left corner of the ConfigSafe main screen
  209.   allows you to select which information you wish to view:
  210.   - Configuration File Changes
  211.   - System Changes
  212.   - Drive and Network Connection Changes
  213.   - Directory Changes (updates to files in directories)
  214.   - Registry(1) Changes (available in ConfigSafe 95 only)

  217. RESTORING YOUR SYSTEM
  218. ---------------------
  219. ---------------------
  220. ConfigSafe lets you restore your system files and Registry(1) to 
  221. a previously working system configuration.  In seconds, ConfigSafe
  222. restores you to a working configuration.  To do so, select the 
  223. RESTORE button on the ConfigSafe main screen.  Then, follow the 
  224. instructions to restore your system to how it was on the specified
  225. date.

  227. If you cannot run Windows, boot into DOS mode, run the SOS
  228. utility while in your ConfigSafe subdirectory.  Do not run
  229. SOS from the Windows 95 DOS box.
  230.  
  231. If you make a mistake, select the UNDO button and ConfigSafe will
  232. bring your system back to the configuration before you did the
  233. restore.

  236. (1) REGISTRY features are only available with ConfigSafe 95, not
  237. with ConfigSafe (16-bit) for Windows 3.1x.  Registry features are
  238. also available with the ConfigSafe NT product.
