  3. ASUS V3400TNT Series V1.02 Readme for Windows 95/98 (12/31/1998)

  6. Extract Driver Files
  7. --------------------
  8. Please unzip the ZIP file with -d option if you use PKUNZIP.EXE.
  9.  
  10. For example, type "PKUNZIP -d v3t102s.zip D:\WIN95" to extract all driver
  11. files into D:\WIN95 directory.
  12.  
  13. Installation Steps
  14. ------------------
  15. If you use ASUS installation program to install your driver, you can 
  16. UNINSTALL old display driver through "Add/Remove Program" option in 
  17. Control Panels.
  18.  
  19. You can use 3 methods to install Windows 95/98 display driver:
  20. Suppose the path of your driver is "D:\Win95" and use Windows 95 as an 
  21. example.(Similar process can be followed in Windows 98.)
  22.  
  23. Method 1 (PnP installation)
  24.   1. Remove your previous video adapter and plug your V3400TNT in system.
  25.      Start Windows. Windows will find a new device and pop up a PnP dialog
  26.      that asks for its driver.
  27.   2. Type the "D:\Win95" for Windows to find the INF file of V3400TNT.
  28.   3. Windows will install its driver automatically and then request for
  29.      restarting.
  30.   4. Choose Yes to reboot your system. The driver will work when Windows
  31.      comes up.
  32.   5. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
  33.      You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
  34.      driver.
  35.  
  36. Method 2 (Display property page)
  37.   1. Start Windows, switch display to VGA mode, then restart.
  38.   2. Press right key of mouse on your desktop and select "Properties".
  39.   3. Click the "Settings" tab.
  40.   4. Click "Change Display Type".
  41.   5. Click "Change" button on the right of the first item "Adapter Type".
  42.   6. Click "Have Disk.." button - "Install from Disk" box will appear.
  43.   7. Click "Browse" button - "Open" box appears.
  44.   8. Select your CD drive in the "Drives" selection on the bottom.
  45.   9. Double click "Win95" in the "Folders" selection.
  46.  10. "ASUS3400.INF" appears in the filename selection.
  47.  11. Click "OK" button.
  48.  12. You will see a list of video cards. Select type of your VGA card
  49.      and click "OK".
  50.  13. After copying all files of the driver, it will back to
  51.      "Change Display Type".
  52.  14. Select Monitor type if necessary.
  53.  15. Click "Close" button and "Display Properties" box appears.
  54.  16. Click "Apply" button and "System Setting Change" box appears.
  55.  17. Click "Yes" to restart your Windows.
  56.  18. When Windows starts up, your video adapter is now ready to use.
  57.  19. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
  58.      You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
  59.      driver.

  61. Method 3 (Run ASUS installation program directly)
  62.   1. Start Windows.
  63.   2. Change to "D:\Win95" directory and execute "ASETUP.EXE". You also can
  64.      change to "D:\Win95\West" or "D:\Win95\East" directory (depending on 
  65.      your language) for multi-language support installation.
  66.   3. Run "setup.exe".
  67.   4. Follow the instructions. Driver will be installed and request for
  68.      restarting.
  69.   5. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.

  72. Installation Notes
  73. ------------------
  74.  
  75. a. Windows 95 OpenGL ICD and Video for Windows capture driver (for TV 
  76.    models only) have been included.
  77.  
  78. d. Quick installation works only when it finds that Primary Display is
  79.    V3400TNT or device node exists. If it do not work, you must install
  80.    driver via Windows PnP dialog or Display property page(use ASUS3400.INF).

  83. Important notes
  84. ----------------
  85.  
  86. 1. ASUS AGP-V3400TNT consumes approximately 9 Watt electrical power 
  87.    so that your motherboard must be able to provide enough electrical
  88.    current in 3.3V power to maintain its normal operation.
  89.  
  90. 2. AGP-V3400TNT is recommended to use with Intel 440LX and 440BX 
  91.    chipset for best compatibility.
  92.  
  93. 3. When using dual view TV out, overlay YUV surface (ex. MPEG player)
  94.    will be showed on the TV, not on the monitor.
  95.  
  96. 4. Dual view works only in 640x480/800x600 16 bit color depth mode.
  97.  
  98. 5. Dual view is not supported under DOS.
  99.  
  100. 6. HW cursor appears only on the monitor, not on the TV when dual view 
  101.    is enabled.
  102.  
  103.  
  104. Limitation in this release
  105. ---------------------------
  106.  
  107. 1. When dual view is enabled and run 3D games, there could be some
  108.    flicker on the TV screen. It can be fixed by checking "Turn off 
  109.    V-Sync waiting" option in the advanced page of the display property 
  110.    page. (But if you are playing VCD with dual view mode, please uncheck
  111.    this option.)
  112.  
  113. 2. All TV out functions have not been supported by the NT driver in this
  114.    release.
  115.  
  116. Changes in this release (v1.02)
  117. --------------------------------
  118. 1. Implement more checking when programming TV out registers to avoid eletrical
  119.    interfere from DDC pins of some specific monitors.
  120.  
  121. 2. Add GART driver support for Intel 440GX, 440ZX chipsets.
  122.  
  123. 3. Multi-language autorun program is added.
  124.  
  125. 4. Some bugs fix for Direct3D/OpenGL applications.
  126.  
  127. 5. An installation bug is fixed(do not delete old driver files before installation).
  128.  
  129. Trouble Shootings
  130. ------------------
  131.   1. After installing the driver, Windows 95/98 doesn't prompt me for restarting
  132.      and the driver still doesn't work after I reboot it by myself.
  133.  
  134.      You may have installed similar drivers before. Try the following steps 
  135.      to install:
  136.  
  137.      (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
  138.      (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
  139.      (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
  140.      (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer. 
  141.      (5) If "Display adapters" appears in the list, click it.
  142.          If "Display adapters" doesn't appear, jump to step 9 and continue.
  143.          
  144.      (6) The name of your card will be listed in the box. Double click it. 
  145.      (7) The properties box of your card appears. Select "Driver" tab.
  146.      (8) Click "Change Driver.." and follow the installation steps.
  147.  
  148.      (9) Click "Other devices" you will see your card is listed.
  149.     (10) Click on the name of card, the properties box appears. 
  150.          Select "Driver" tab.
  151.     (11) Click "Change Driver.." and follow the installation steps.
  152.  
  153.   2. After installation and restarting, Windows 95/98 informs me that display
  154.      setting is still incorrect. What can I do?
  155.  
  156.      There may be conflict between previous and current display drivers.
  157.      This is caused by not complete removal of previous display driver. Try
  158.      the following steps to remove it:
  159.  
  160.      (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
  161.      (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
  162.      (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
  163.      (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer. 
  164.      (5) Open "Display adapters" in the list (double click it).
  165.      (6) You will find two (or more) conflicted adapters listed here.
  166.      (7) Remove all previous adapters by selecting them and press "Remove"
  167.      (8) Close Device Manager and restart Windows 95.
  168.      (9) Now display driver will work correctly.
  169.  
  170.   3. ASUS Live3400 reports "Your display card is not ASUS V3400TNT/TV." when
  171.      you do use ASUS V3400TNT/TV. What can I do?
  172.  
  173.      There could be wrong circuit implemented in DDC circuit of your monitor.
  174.      (For example, it connects DDC circuit to ground.) The inappropriate DDC
  175.      circuit will make video-in/out functions working abnormally. You can try 
  176.      one of the following steps to solve it:
  177.  
  178.      (1) Try to contact your monitor vendor for a solution.
  179.      (2) Use a NON-DDC cable instead of original monitor cable.
  180.          (NON-DDC cable is a cable without pin 12 and 15.)
  181.  
  182.   4. My TV out or TV adjustment options in property page does not work.
  183.  
  184.      This is a similar problem as previous one.
