  4. SBAWE32 Control Panel is a tool to control your AWE32 MIDI hardware. The 
  5. control panel lets you

  7.    1. Apply effects to the MIDI sound 
  8.    2. Change the Synthesizer Emulation 
  9.    3. Load custom SoundFont files into the 128 banks 
  10.    4. Upload wave files to be used as instrument samples 
  11.    5. Review loaded intrument samples using the virtual keyboard

  14. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. SBAWE32 Control Panel Interface ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  16. The control panel interface uses the page tabbed dialog metaphor to conserve 
  17. desktop space.  The concept is quite similar to the the standard OS/2 notebook 
  18. interface.  Each page in the tabbed dialog can be accessed by clicking on its 
  19. tab, which is displayed at the top of the dialog. The tab also displays a text 
  20. describing the page it activates.

  22. The SBAWE32 Control Panel tabbed dialog has five pages, Effects, Synth Bank, 
  23. User Bank, WaveFx and Playback.

  36. The effects page lets you select the default effects to apply to the MIDI 
  37. sound. SBAWE32 supports multiple effects where each effect is identified by an 
  38. effect type,  Reverb & Chorus. Each effect type can have multiple effect sub 
  39. types which are referred to as effect variations. Each effect variation can be 
  40. further adjusted to a custom value.

  42. Reverb & Chorus effect type has the following variations

  45.       Chorus 
  46.       Treble 
  47.       Bass

  49.  Each of this effect variation can be configured to a value which programs the 
  50.  variation specifc parameter. For example the variation Reverb can be 
  51.  configured to any of the following eight values:

  54.       Room 2 
  55.       Room 3 
  56.       Hall 1 
  57.       Hall 2 
  58.       Plate 
  59.       Delay

  65. The synth bank page lets you set the synth bank emulation to one of the four 
  66. modes. These are

  70.       MT 32 
  71.       User Synth

  73.  Each of this mode has a SoundFont file attached to it. When a new mode is 
  74.  selected and applied, the attached SoundFont file is loaded and the synth 
  75.  emulation is changed.

  77.  Default SoundFont files are supplied that provide the emulation for all the 
  78.  four modes, but these can be changed to use custom SoundFont files through the 
  79.  control panel.

  84. User Bank page allows you to load SoundFont files into one of the 127 user 
  85. banks in AWE32. Each of these banks can have a different or same SoundFont file 
  86. and when a MIDI bank switch message is received the appropriate bank is 
  87. selected and instruments from the new bank played.

  92. WaveFx page lets you load wave files for specfic instruments. Once a wave file 
  93. is loaded for an instrument, the wave file is played back as the instrument 
  94. sample.

  99. Playback page lets you review the loaded SoundFonts and wave files. The virtual 
  100. keyboard provided can be used to play different notes.

  105. The two refresh buttons, Refresh All and Refresh This can be used to force the 
  106. control panel to display the current hardware settings.

  108. Refresh All refreshes all the five tabbed book pages while Refresh This 
  109. refreshes only the current page.

  114. The Apply button applies the current control panel setting for the active page 
  115. to the hardware.
