  1. 410PT7.EXE Installation Instructions.

  4. Section  1     Installing Patches on a Native NetWare Server.
  5. Section  2     Installing Patches on a NetWare of OS/2 Server.
  6. Section  3     Installing Patches on a NetWare SFT III Server.

  10.      Novell has provided an installation script to be used with INSTALL.NLM 
  11.      "Product Options".  However it is still possible to manually copy the 
  12.      patches to the DOS partition.. C:\NWSERVER\PATCHES\410PT7..
  13.  
  14.      This script file can be run in several ways:
  15.      1- From local A: Drive at Server.
  16.      2- From local Drive at Client using Rconsole (F4).
  17.      3- From local SYS: volume (F3), by specifying the path including 
  18.        volume name..ie SYS:\410PT7.
  19.      4- From a different server on the network (F3) by specifying
  20.        full path including server name..ie Server_Name\SYS:\410PT7.
  21.  
  22.      NOTE: Fastest installation in order of performance is: 
  23.      option 3, option 4, option 2, option 1.
  24.  
  25.      PM410 has the following enhancements:
  26.           - "PMLOAD".  PMLOAD will scan a specified directory and auto load 
  27.           ALL patches in the directory.. 
  28.      
  29.           EXAMPLE:  PMLOAD C:\NWSERVER\PATCHES\NATIVE\START
  30.  
  31.           - "PATCHES" console command has been enhanced.
  32.                - Patches are displayed alphabetically.
  33.                - Total number of Patches are at the bottom of the list.
  34.  
  35.           - "UNLOAD PM410"  will unload ALL patches as well.
  36.  
  37.      When extracting 410PT7, the \BOOT and \SYS directories are created.
  38.      These directories are available for use to help automate other updates,
  39.      such as NLM's.  The Script file will unconditionally copy files from the
  40.      \BOOT directory to the location where SERVER.EXE or MSERVER.EXE reside on
  41.      the server boot drive. In same manner the Script file will also 
  42.      unconditionally copy files from the \SYS directory to volume SYS:.  It
  43.      is possible to create other directory structure to accommodate need.

  45.      Example:
  46.      This example illustrates how this concept works. By default
  47.      there are two directories structures; \BOOT , \SYS\SYSTEM.  
  48.  
  49.      If a Disk driver needs to be updated on the DOS 
  50.      drive. Copy the *.DSK driver to the \BOOT directory.
  51.  
  52.      If a NLM module needs to updated on SYS:\SYSTEM.  
  53.      Copy the *.NLM to the \SYS\SYSTEM directory.
  54.  
  55.      If file needs to be update in any other path perhaps 
  56.      SYS:\PUBLIC, create a directory under \SYS and copy 
  57.      the file to \SYS\PUBLIC.
  58.      
  59.      Run the installation script in INSTALL, PRODUCT OPTIONS.
  60.  
  61.      This would copy the desired files to the desire 
  62.      locations on the server; C:, SYS:\SYSTEM, SYS:\PUBLIC.

  67.      Note for NetFRAME customers:  
  68.      Because of NetFRAMEs' unique architecture "Product Options" Install 
  69.      can not copy the patches to the boot drive.  Use the following 
  70.      RCONSOLE method to copy the patches to the boot drive.
  71.           1) Unzip the patch file to any directory.
  72.           2) Run RCONSOLE and connect to the NetFRAME server that you 
  73.           want to update.
  74.           3) Use ALT-F1 to bring up the RCONSOLE Menu.
  75.           4) Select the "Transfer Files To Server" option.
  76.           5) For the Source path, enter the complete DOS path, 
  77.                for example f:\patch\native\start and press enter.
  78.           6) For the Destination path, enter C:  and press enter.
  79.      RCONSOLE should then copy all the files located in the source directory.  
  80.      After that completes add the following lines to the STARTUP.NCF:
  81.           LOAD PM410
  82.           PMLOAD C:\
  83.      Remove all other load statements for PM410.NLM and patches.

  87.      Note for AS400 customers:
  88.      Because of AS400's unique architecture "Product Options" Install 
  89.      can not copy the patches to the boot drive.  Use the following 
  90.      RCONSOLE method to copy the patches to the boot drive.
  91.           1) Unzip the patch file to any directory.
  92.           2) Run RCONSOLE and connect to the AS/400 server that you 
  93.           want to update.
  94.           3) Use ALT-F1 to bring up the RCONSOLE Menu.
  95.           4) Select the "Transfer Files To Server" option.
  96.           5) For the Source path, enter the complete DOS path, 
  97.                for example f:\patch\native\start and press enter.
  98.           6) For the Destination path, enter E:  and press enter.
  99.              NOTE: Drive E: is a READ-WRITE DRIVE, 
  100.                 Drive F: is a READ-ONLY DRIVE.
  101.      RCONSOLE should then copy all the files located in the source directory.  
  102.      After that completes add the following lines to the STARTUP.NCF:
  103.           LOAD PM410
  104.           PMLOAD E:\
  105.      Remove all other load statements for PM410.NLM and patches.
  106.      Do not remove the load statements for DIAG410.NLM, HIMOVE.NLM, and
  107.      QFPLDISK.DSK.

  111.      Issue: 
  112.  
  113.      When selecting "PRODUCT OPTIONS" option in install, Screen to copy file appears 
  114.      instead of the "PRODUCT OPTIONS" screen.

  123.      |  If you are installing from CD-ROM or a network directory, verify       |
  124.      |  that the above path corresponds to the source directory where the       |
  125.      |  NetWare server installation files are located.  On CD-ROM, this        |
  126.      |  will be path <drive_or_vo_name>:\NW410\INSTALL\<language_dir>.         |

  133.      Solution:

  135.      Copy the following files from the NetWare CD: NETMAIN.ILS, NETMAIN.ICS,
  136.      LANGFS.ILS to C:\NWSERVER.

  142.      Generally this is a result of manually installing the server rather than
  143.      installing though INSTALL.BAT.
  144.

  147.      Issue:
  148.  
  149.      When the Patch kit is installed, SERVER.EXE will be updated with the 
  150.      current version of LOADER. Some customers have indicated that the 
  151.      modified version of SERVER.EXE becomes corrupt with the following 
  152.      message:
  153.      
  154.      LOADER-4.10-19: Error reading load file C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE.
  155.  
  156.      This corruption has been linked to the DIE_HARD VIRUS.
  157.  
  158.      Solution:
  159.  
  160.      1-Scan the DOS Boot drive of the file server, as well as any locations
  161.      where the patch kit may have been copied to.  Novell has ensured that
  162.      the virus has not been encapsulated in the compressed downloadable 
  163.      patch kit.  
  164.  
  165.      2-Rename SERVER.OLD or MSERVER.OLD to SERVER.EXE or MSERVER.EXE.
  166.      
  167.      3-RUN LSWAP.EXE 
  168.  
  169.      USAGE: LSWAP [LoaderFilePath [ServerFilePath]]
  170.  
  171.      Default LoaderFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE
  172.      Default ServerFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE
  173.      
  174.  
  175.      4-Run the newly modified SERVER.EXE or MSERVER.EXE if running SFTIII.

  178. Section  1     Installing Patches on a Native NetWare Server.

  181. IF INSTALLING ON A NATIVE NETWARE SERVER:
  182.  
  183.      To Copy files :
  184.           Explode the patch kit to a diskette 
  185.         (or see other install options at the top of this file).
  186.           Place diskette in "A:" drive at the Server.
  187.           Load "INSTALL.NLM",  
  188.           Select "PRODUCT OPTIONS"
  189.           Select "INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED"
  190.           Select "ENTER" (Copy from A:\)
  191.  
  192.           NOTE:  PI_ICMD.NLM will load and copy files from the A: drive using 
  193.          the *.IPS script.
  194.  
  195.           The following event will occur:
  196.                Patches will be copied
  197.                PM410 will be loaded
  198.                PMLOAD will scan the directory where the patch are & load them
  199.                LSWAP will update SERVER.EXE if installing the 410PTx.EXE.
  200.                A backup of The STARTUP.NCF file will made and then the
  201.                STARTUP.NCF will be updated..
  202.             A Record will be added to the btrieve Products.dat file.
  203.  
  204.      Some modules may NOT have loaded during this installation.  These modules
  205.      may be dependent on the version of PM410.NLM and also the version of LOADER.EXE.

  207.      To Complete the installation of this update, the server must be re-booted.

  210. Section  2     Installing Patches on a NetWare for OS/2 Server.
  211. ___________________________________________________________________________

  213. IF INSTALLING ON A NATIVE NETWARE  FOR OS/2 SERVER:
  214.      To Copy files :
  215.           Explode the patch kit to a diskette.
  216.           Place diskette in "A:" drive at the Server.
  217.           Load "INSTALL.NLM",  
  218.           Select "PRODUCT OPTIONS"
  219.           Select "INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED"
  220.           Select "ENTER" (Copy from A:\)
  221.  
  222.           NOTE:  PI_ICMD.NLM will load and copy files from the A: drive using 
  223.          the *.IPS script.
  224.  
  225.           The following event will occur:
  226.                Patches will be copied
  227.                PM410 will be loaded

  244. IF INSTALLING ON A NETWARE SFTIII SERVER:
  245.      To Copy files :
  246.           Explode the patch kit to SYS:\410PT7
  247.           Load "INSTALL.NLM",  
  248.           Select "PRODUCT OPTIONS"
  249.           Select "INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED"
  250.           Select "F3" (TO specify a different path)
  251.           ENTER: "SYS:\410PT7"
  252.           PRESS  "ENTER"
  253.  
  254.           NOTE:  PI_ICMD.NLM will load and copy files from the SYS:\410PT7 
  255.       drive using the *.IPS script.
  256.  
  257.           The following event will occur:
  258.                Patches will be copied
  259.                PM410 will be loaded
  260.                PMLOAD will scan the directory where the patch are & load them
  261.                A backup of The IOSTART.NCF and MSSTART.NCF files will be made 
  262.             and then the IOSTART.NCF and MSSTART.NCF will be updated..
  263.             A Record will be added to the btrieve Products.dat file.
  264.  
  265.      Some modules may NOT have loaded during this installation.  These modules
  266.      may be dependent on the version of PM410.NLM and also the version of LOADER.EXE.
