  1. Installing Sound Blaster Drivers for Windows NT 3.5
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. This readme file provides information on how to install the latest
  5. Sound Blaster drivers in the Windows NT 3.5 operating system.
  6.  
  7. The revised drivers include .ACV and .CSP files, as well as CSPMANNT.DLL, 
  8. CSPMANNT.SYS, SB16SND.DLL, SB16SND.SYS, SBAWE32.SYS and SBAWE32.DRV. The
  9. new wave drivers -- SB16SND.SYS and SBAWE32.SYS -- support Wave, Midi,
  10. FM, WSS and AUX files.  However, the compression and decompression codes
  11. work only with SB16 cards that have on-board CSP chips.

  13. To install these drivers for different Sound Blaster cards, please read
  14. one of the the following sections carefully:
  15.  
  16. (1) SB16 sound card only
  17. (2) AWE32 or SB32 sound card
  18. (3) SB16 sound card with Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card
  19. (4) Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card only
  20.  
  21. To find out more about the PnP support offered by these drivers, read
  22. this section:

  26. (1) SB16 SOUND CARD ONLY
  27.     --------------------
  28.     To install the drivers for a SB16 sound card:
  29.  
  30.     1. Open the Control Panel folder.  Double-click the "Drivers" icon.
  31.        Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  32.  
  33.     2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a
  34.        floppy drive.
  35.  
  36.     3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the
  37.        SB16 drivers. The installation program will also install the
  38.        CSPMANNT drivers.
  39.        
  40.     4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option.
  41.  
  42.     5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where
  43.        the OEMSETUP.INF file is.  Type in the letter of the drive
  44.        containing the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press
  45.        "ENTER".
  46.  
  47.     6. Select "Creative Tech. Sound Blaster 16".
  48.  
  49.     7. Click the "New" button.
  50.  
  51.     8. At this point, you will be prompted to select the Sound Blaster
  52.        hardware settings like base I/O address, DMA, IRQ and MPU-401 port
  53.        settings. All the .SYS files will be copied into the
  54.        C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory.  The .ACV and .DLL files
  55.        will go into the C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32 directory.

  57.     9. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot the
  58.        system. Click the "Restart Now" button.

  62. (2) AWE32 OR SB32 SOUND CARD
  63.     ------------------------
  64.     To install the drivers for an AWE32 or SB32 sound card:
  65.     
  66.     1. Open the Control Panel folder.  Double-click the "Drivers" icon.
  67.        Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  68.  
  69.     2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a
  70.        floppy drive.
  71.  
  72.     3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the
  73.        SB16 drivers. The installation program will also install the
  74.        CSPMANNT drivers.
  75.        
  76.     4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option.

  78.     5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where the
  79.        OEMSETUP.INF file is.  Type in the letter of the drive containing

  86.     8. At this point, you will be prompted to select the Sound Blaster

  93.        system.  CLICK THE "Dont' Restart Now" BUTTON AT THIS POINT.

  95.     10.Repeat steps 3 to 5 again.

  97.     11.This time, select the "Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 MIDI Synth"
  98.        option.

  100.     12.At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your
  101.        system.  Click the "Restart Now" button.

  104. (3) SB16 SOUND CARD WITH ADVANCED WAVE TABLE UPGRADE CARD

  106.     To install the drivers if your system has a SB16 sound card and an
  107.     Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card:

  109.     1. Follow the steps outlined in section (2).
  110.

  112. (4) ADVANCED WAVE TABLE UPGRADE CARD
  113.     --------------------------------
  114.     To install the drivers for an Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card:
  115.  
  116.     1. Open the Control Panel folder.  Double-click the "Drivers" icon.
  117.        Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  118.  
  119.     2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a
  120.        floppy drive.
  121.  
  122.     3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the
  123.        SB16 drivers.  The installation program will also install the
  124.        CSPMANNT drivers.

  126.     4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option.

  138. (5) SUPPORT FOR PLUG AND PLAY CARDS
  139.     -------------------------------
  140.     These latest drivers also support all Creative Plug and Play (PnP)
  141.     cards, initializing the sound devices in the PnP cards during
  142.     boot-up.
  143.     
  144.     The driver configuration dialog box has been changed to support
  145.     Plug and Play.  The dialog box now sports an extra control, Auto
  146.     Configuration, at the bottom.  If Auto Configuration is enabled,
  147.     the driver will try to initialize the PnP hardware with the best
  148.     possible configuration of all available choices.
  149.     
  150.     Note:   When Auto Configuration is enabled, the Port, IRQ, DMA and
  151.             MPU-401 controls are disabled.  When Auto Configuration is
  152.             disabled, these controls are enabled, letting you customize
  153.             your own configuration.
