  4. Sony CD ROM Discman PRD-150 Driver for Windows 95 Installation Guide

  7. The PRD-150 driver for Windows 95 is designed to work with Windows 95 
  8. in the protected mode.  Before installing the driver, please copy the 
  9. following files to a floppy disc to make an installation disc.

  17. Installation Instructions
  18.     
  19. Windows 95 can run peripherals in a 16-bit (MS-DOS compatible) or 32-bit 
  20. (Windows 95 enhanced PCMCIA) environment.  To use the enhanced 
  21. PCMCIA environment, preset the Windows 95 PCMCIA socket to 32-bit mode.    
  22.  
  23. Please preset the Windows 95 PCMCIA socket to 32-bit mode before 
  24. installing the PRD-150 driver for Windows 95.
  25.  
  26. 1.   Quit any applications you are running and remove the PC Card of the 
  27.      PRD-150 from your PC Card slot.
  28.  
  29. 2.   From the My Computer window, open the Control Panel.
  30.  
  31. 3.   Double click on the System icon to open the System Properties window. 
  32.  
  33. 4.   Click the Performance tab to see the Performance Status.
  34.  
  35.     If the "PC Cards[PCMCIA]:" line indicates "32-bit", go to the 
  36.     procedure: Installing the PRD-150 Driver.  
  37.  
  38.     If it indicates "MS-DOS compatibility mode", continue this 
  39.     procedure to change the PC card mode to 32-bit.
  40.  
  41. 5.  Double click on the PC Card (PCMCIA) icon located in the Control Panel.
  42.  
  43.     The message "Welcome to the PC Card Wizard" appears.
  44.  
  45. 6. Click Next until the third screen opens.
  46.  
  47.     The third screen indicates that the 32-bit device driver 
  48.     support is ready to be enabled. 
  49.  
  50. 7. Click Finish to enable the drivers. 
  51.  
  52.     The message "System Settings Change" appears.
  53.  
  54. 8. Click YES to shut down your PC. 
  55.  
  56. Turn your computer on again, and follow the above steps 1-4 again to 
  57.      confirm that the PCMCIA socket works in 32-bit mode.

  60. Using the Help program    
  61.  
  62. During the PCMCIA socket set up, the PC Card (PCMCIA) 
  63.      Troubleshooter guides you step-by-step through the 
  64.      setup procedure.  
  65.  
  66. To activate the help program:     
  67.  
  68. 1.  Click Start in the Task Bar and select Help    
  69. 2.  Click the Contents tab    
  70. 3.  Double-click on Troubleshooting and look for PC card(PCMCIA) Help
  71.  
  72.     
  73. Installing the PRD-150 Driver    
  74.  
  75. 1.  Insert the PC Card of the PRD-150 into the PC Card slot. 
  76.  
  77.     The New Hardware Found window appears.  It recognizes 
  78.     the PRD-150 as a "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" 
  79.     and prompts you to install the Windows default driver, but 
  80.     DO NOT click on OK at this time.
  81.  
  82. **WARNING**
  83.  
  84. To cancel the installation, always use the Cancel button.  Never use 
  85. the "Do not install a driver" option.  If you select this option, your PC 
  86. rejects the CD-ROM Discman PC card and the New Hardware Found 
  87. window will not appear again even if the PC is re-booted.  If you select 
  88. this option, see "Troubleshooting".

  90. 2.   Insert the Sony PRD-150 Windows 95 Installation Software disc 
  91.      into your floppy disk drive.
  92.  
  93. 3.   Select the "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" 
  94.      option. 
  95.  
  96. 4.   Click OK.
  97.  
  98.     The Install From Disk window appears. Confirm that the 
  99.     indicated drive (default A) is the correct letter of your 
  100.     floppy disk drive.  If not, type the correct drive letter.
  101.  
  102. 5.   Click OK
  103.  
  104.     An ascending tone is heard from the PC and "PC OPR" 
  105.     appears in the CD-ROM Discman's display window. 
  106.  
  107. 6.   Open the My Computer window and confirm that a CD-ROM icon 
  108.      appears.
  109.

  111. Optimizing Performance    
  112.  
  113. 1.   Double-click on the System icon in the Control Panel to open 
  114.      the System Properties window.
  115.  
  116. 2.   Select the Performance tab and click File System... in the 
  117.      Advanced settings box. 
  118.  
  119. 3.   Select the CD-ROM tab.
  120.  
  121. 4.   Select "Double-speed drives" or higher under "Optimize access 
  122.      pattern for:" and click OK 
  123.

  125. Troubleshooting    
  126.  
  127. If you accidentally selected the "Windows default driver" option or the 
  128.      "Do not install a driver" option in the New Hardware Found 
  129.      window...    
  130.  
  131. 1.   Insert the CD-ROM Discman PC card and remove any other PC cards 
  132.      in the slot(s).
  133.  
  134. 2.   Double click the System icon to open the System Properties window.
  135.  
  136. 3.   In the Device Manager, select "View devices by connection" in the 
  137.      upper right corner of the window.
  138.  
  139. 4.   Look for your PCMCIA controller in the Device Manager window and 
  140.      double-click on it.  A new device appears next to the PCMCIA 
  141.      controller.  If you selected the "Windows default driver" option, 
  142.      "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" appears.  If you 
  143.      selected the "Do not install a driver" option, "SONY CD-ROM 
  144.      Interface" appears.  
  145.  
  146. 5.   Click the new device to highlight it, and click Remove.  
  147.  
  148.     The confirmation window appears.  
  149.  
  150. 6.  Click OK.  
  151.  
  152. 7.  Remove the PC card from your socket and follow the "Installing the 
  153.     PRD-150 driver" instructions to install the correct driver.
