  65. The installation is covered in the "online.doc" file. 
  66. You can view this file with WordPad.

  68. The installation process can be customized by modifying the "mga.ini"
  69. file on the diskette. Examples of customization options include:
  70. default installation path, default driver performance switches,
  71. default schemes, etc. The file is self-documented. This type of 
  72. customization should be carried out by advanced users only.

  77. PowerDesk settings are kept in the Windows 95 registry, under the keys:

  82. Notes, Problems, and Limitations
  83. --------------------------------

  85. - Another MGA Millennium driver
  86.  
  87.   Another MGA Millennium driver is included in the Windows Driver
  88.   Library (WDL). The WDL Millennium driver does not have, or support, the
  89.   PowerDesk enhancements. In the "Adapter Type" list, the WDL Millennium 
  90.   driver is called the "Matrox MGA Millennium", while the PowerDesk one is
  91.   called "Matrox MGA Millennium PowerDesk".

  93.   If you have the CD-ROM version of Windows 95, this library is included in 
  94.   the \Drivers\Display directory. WDL is also accessible from CompuServe 
  95.   and other means. See the Windows 95 "display.txt" file for more details.

  97. - Windows 95 "display.txt" file
  98.  
  99.   Windows 95 comes with a readme file called "display.txt" containing 
  100.   valuable information related to display adapters.
  101.   Note that the remarks about the Matrox MGA adapters refer to the Microsoft
  102.   MGA Ultima/Impression driver, not to your MGA Millennium adapter.

  104. - Adobe Type Manager limitation
  105.  
  106.   When Adobe Type Manager is installed, you cannot run the driver if the
  107.   "Advanced Graphics Acceleration Settings" is set to none. Note that ATM 
  108.   is installed as part of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is an Adobe problem
  109.   documented in the Windows 95 "display.txt" file.
  110.  
  111. - Monitor Refresh rates with a virtual desktop
  112.  
  113.   When working with a virtual desktop, the refresh rate used for the 
  114.   Windows 95 monitor will be derived from the virtual desktop resolution
  115.   ("Desktop area") rather than from the display resolution ("Display
  116.   area"). This typically will result in an inferior refresh rate, and if 
  117.   the virtual desktop resolution is not supported by your monitor 
  118.   (e.g. 1600 X 1200), the default refresh rate of only 60 Hz will be used.
  119.  
  120.   This limitation does not occur when using the Matrox MGA Monitor Program,
  121.   where the refresh rates are taken from the display resolution.
  122.  
  123. - Matrox Monitor Program and 1152 X 864
  124.  
  125.   Take note that an old MGA.INF file created by the Windows 3.1 Monitor
  126.   Program will not contain any data for the 1152 X 864 resolution, forcing
  127.   the Windows 95 driver to work at the default 60 Hz refresh. Refresh rates 
  128.   equal or close to the earlier 1152 X 882 resolution are available in the 
  129.   new MGA.MON file. You can "refresh" your MGA.INF file by simply reselecting
  130.   the same monitor you had and save it.
  131.   
  132.   In 1152 X 864, the Monitor Program will not immediately perform its Test 
  133.   Pattern with the proper timings. Please first save the "new" MGA.INF file 
  134.   and reboot your system before relying on the Test Pattern in 1152 X 864.  
  135.  
  136. - Monitors in interlaced mode
  137.  
  138.   Some old monitors such as the IBM 8514 and the NEC 3D do not support non-
  139.   interlaced mode in all resolutions. The Millennium driver does not properly
  140.   handle interlaced mode under the Windows 95 monitor mechanism, so if you
  141.   own one of these monitors, please use the MGA Monitor Program.

  143. - PowerDesk and localized versions of Windows 95
  144.  
  145.   When PowerDesk installs its special settings page in the Windows 95
  146.   Display Properties panel, it should grey-out the normal Microsoft "Settings"
  147.   page.  This has been tested under the languages we have localized
  148.   PowerDesk in.  With other languages, it may not work.  In this case,
  149.   DO NOT USE THE MICROSOFT SETTINGS PAGE. Otherwise, you will confuse the
  150.   Millennium display driver, which uses the Windows 95 "Desktop area" as its
  151.   VIRTUAL desktop area; rather than changing your resolution, you will
  152.   actually change your virtual desktop.

  154. - Replacing DDC timings by MGA Monitor Program timings
  155.  
  156.   If you elect to use the MGA Monitor Program to override your DDC-compliant
  157.   monitor, please take note of the following limitation: DO NOT USE THE "TEST"
  158.   FACILITY UNTIL YOU REBOOT WINDOWS 95 WITH A SELECTED MONITOR.
  159.   
  160.   This means that you should be careful in selecting your monitor; if your
  161.   monitor is not directly supported in the list, take no chance and pick
  162.   "Multi-freq up to 1280 X 1024 @60Hz". After rebooting, you will be in safe
  163.   position to pick a better match and test the various resolutions with our
  164.   "Test" facility before confirming a new selection for good.
  165.  
  166. - DirectDraw and Automatic Power Management
  167.  
  168.   As stated in "Microsoft DirectX release Notes" dated September 30, 1995, A 
  169.   DirectDraw game might be unable to restore properly if it is suspended 
  170.   by Automatic Power Management utilities.
  171.  
  172. - Video acceleration under Windows 95
  173.  
  174.   Microsoft DirectX is supported in this release of the Millennium driver,
  175.   including DirectVideo, which provides faster Video for Windows playback
  176.   with programs such as Media Player.
  177.  
  178.   For an application to use DirectX, a number of support files are required.
  179.   These files include DirectDraw system components, DirectVideo system
  180.   components, and updated Indeo and Cinepak codecs.  In order to facilitate
  181.   installation and setup of DirectX, Matrox has provided a DirectX upgrade
  182.   package along with setup program that may be obtained from our BBS or WEB
  183.   page.

  185.   Even if you already have DirectVideo and DirectDraw installed on your
  186.   system, we recommend you run the setup program included in the DirectX
  187.   upgrade provided by Matrox in order to update the various codecs.  The MGA
  188.   DirectDraw driver has been optimized for the best possible video playback
  189.   which requires the Indeo 3.2 codec version 3.24.15.03 and the Cinepak codec
  190.   version 1.10.0.6 which are both found on the above mentioned DirectX
  191.   upgrade.

  193.   To start the installation of the DirectX upgrade, use the RUN function from
  194.   the START menu and select A:\SETUP.EXE via the BROWSE option.  If your
  195.   floppy drive is not A: simply substitute A: for the drive letter of your
  196.   floppy.  Once you have selected the file, click on OK and the setup
  197.   procedure will start.

  199.   Note: ONCE THE SETUP PROCEDURE IS COMPLETE, YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER.

  201. - MultiMedia Superpack CD-ROM 
  202.  
  203.   Some applications provided with your Matrox CD-ROM may not work properly
  204.   (or not as fast) under Windows 95. Check on our BBS and CompuServe for 
  205.   updates.
  206.  
  207. - Repaint problems with PanLOCK
  208.  
  209.   We have noted erratic window repainting problems with the PanLOCK feature.
  210.   The problem is related to Windows main message queue, and happens more
  211.   easily with the "window dragging" feature of the Win95 Plus Pack. It has 
  212.   been seen so far in Lotus 4, Access and AMIPro. There is no workaround
  213.   other than to avoid using PanLOCK.

  254.   file is included on your Matrox floppy disk, and installed in your
