  4. This document contains the latest information about
  5. HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver that supplements 
  6. the online help.

  26. NOTE:   The HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver works 
  27.     with Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.
  28.  
  29. Upgrading from a Previous Driver
  30. --------------------------------
  31. For Windows 3.1 users upgrading from HP's PrintSmart for Windows 
  32. Printer Driver Version 7.0 in a non-US version, UNINSTALL this 
  33. version if you encounter a system error while installing disk 2 
  34. of Version 7.0a. Refer to the section on UnInstalling HP's 
  35. PrintSmart for Windows.
  36.  
  37. For Windows 95 users upgrading from the HP DeskJet 310, 320 drivers 
  38. shipped with Windows 95 or HP's PrintSmart for Windows Driver 
  39. Version 7.0 in a non-US version, delete the previously installed 
  40. printer icons from the folder, then use "ADD PRINTERS" as described 
  41. in the section Installing through the Control Panel. Do not use the 
  42. "New Driver" option in the Printer Properties dialog to perform the 
  43. upgrade.

  46. Installing through the Control Panel
  47. ------------------------------------
  48. The HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver cannot be installed 
  49. through the Control Panel for Windows 3.1. Use the "setup.exe" 
  50. program on the disk that came with your printer (from the Program 
  51. Manager, select File, Run..., then type a:\setup).
  52.  
  53. To install this printing system on Windows 95, go to the Control 
  54. Panel, select "Add Printers". Follow the instructions on the 
  55. computer screen to complete the installation.

  58. Installing the DJPMenu
  59. ----------------------
  60. To run DJPMenu, run INSTALL.BAT from the printer 
  61. software Installation Disk (type a:,then type install.bat), 
  62. then type c:\deskjet\djpmenu.

  65. UnInstalling HP's PrintSmart for Windows
  66. ----------------------------------------
  67. For Windows 3.1 users, run "setup /u" from the disk that came 
  68. with your printer (from the program manager, select File, Run...
  69. then type a:\setup /u).
  70.  
  71. For Windows 95 users, delete the printer from the Printers folder. 
  72. You may also wish to remove the "HP DeskJet 300 Series" or 
  73. "HP DeskJet 400 Series" program group from your Programs menu.

  77. 2. Printing with the Infrared Adapter (DeskJet 340 only)
  78. ================================================================
  79. In order to print to the HP DeskJet 340 Printer using the Infrared
  80. Adapter, you must have IrDA-compliant software with printing 
  81. feature installed on your system. If you do not have this software, 
  82. contact your notebook PC manufacturer.
  83.  
  84. Select the port that is configured for infrared printing on your
  85. system. If your system provides both an LPT port and a COM port 
  86. for infrared printing, then select the COM port.
  87.  
  88. For Windows 95 users, use the Windows 95 infrared driver from 
  89. Microsoft. Select the COM port described as "Virtual
  90. Infrared COM Port".

  94. 3. Problems With Specific Software Programs
  95. ===============================================================
  96. At the time HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver was released, 
  97. the following known software program limitations existed:
  98.  
  99. Corel Draw 5.0 (Corel)
  100. ----------------------
  101. Scanned-in images are printed out as composite black pictures. 
  102. To resolve this, double click on HPWCNFIG.EXE in the Windows 
  103. system directory and turn off Jumbo Technology.
  104.  
  105. Excel 4.0 (Microsoft)
  106. ---------------------
  107. After cancelling a print job, an error message may be displayed. 
  108. Click OK to return to the software program. This is fixed in
  109. version 5.0.
  110.  
  111. Some paths to the driver dialogues do not work correctly and settings
  112. are not retained. Use the following path to reach a printer setup
  113. that works:
  114.  
  115.   For version 4.0: File, Page Setup, Printer Setup, Setup
  116.   For version 5.0: File, Page Setup, Options
  117.   This is fixed in version 7.0.
  118.  
  119. Documents formatted for printers other than HP DeskJet printers may 
  120. shrink when printed. Changing print settings has no effect. 
  121. This is fixed in version 5.0.
  122.  
  123. Freelance 2.x (Lotus)
  124. ---------------------
  125. Doing a gradient fill pattern within a non-rectangular object (for
  126. example, a triangle) will print incorrectly. If you must do this,
  127. then disable "Rectangle Capability" from the HPWCNFIG.EXE program.
  128. HPWCNFIG.EXE is in the windows system directory.
  129.  
  130. Pagemaker 5.0 (Adobe)
  131. ---------------------
  132. With the Print Manager turned off in Windows 95, or in Windows 3.1,
  133. if an error message appears during printing, then exit PageMaker
  134. after the print job is complete to correctly restore the display.
  135.  
  136. Colour pattern fills do not always print with the correct pattern.
  137.  
  138. Some documents created in PageMaker 4.0 may not print correctly in
  139. PageMaker 5.0.
  140.  
  141. PowerPoint 4.0 (Microsoft)
  142. --------------------------

  149. --------------------------
  150. Print jobs are not shown in the spooler. To cancel a job, go to 
  151. the DeskJet Status Monitor.

  153. Printshop Deluxe 1.0 (Broderbund)
  154. ---------------------------------
  155. Objects that go outside the print region are clipped. The program
  156. does not provide a means of adjusting the bottom margin of the 
  157. document to fit within the limits of the printer driver's margin 
  158. settings. This problem is fixed in version 2.0.
  159.  
  160. If a paper size other than Letter is selected in the printer driver
  161. when a document is sent to print, a message may display asking the
  162. user to select either Portrait or Landscape orientation. The 
  163. selection has no effect on how the document is printed.
  164.  
  165. Publisher 1.0 (Microsoft)
  166. -------------------------
  167. You cannot change the HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver 
  168. settings from Microsoft Publisher 1.0. You must change them through 
  169. the Control Panel.
  170.  
  171. If you are printing cards and images do not print, check the 
  172. "MS Publisher" checkbox in the HPWCNFIG.EXE program.
  173. This program is located in the windows system directory.
  174.  
  175. Publisher 2.0 (Microsoft)
  176. -------------------------
  177. Information at the bottom of a page may be clipped. Increase the
  178. bottom margin of your page. See the user's guide for print region
  179. specifications.
  180.  
  181. Word For Windows, Versions 6.0 and earlier (Microsoft)
  182. ------------------------------------------------------
  183. Edges of italic characters may be clipped in version 2.0. 
  184. This problem is fixed in version 6.0.
  185.  
  186. If the 'copies' setting is changed in the ColorSmart dialogue box for
  187. a document, the change will not happen for that print job, however,
  188. the change will happen when the next document is sent to print. This
  189. problem is fixed in version 7.0.
  190.  
  191. When printing to a file, the path and filename must be shorter than 
  192. 30 characters. Otherwise, the file that is created will be empty.
  193.  
  194. WordPerfect 6.0 (Novell Corporation)
  195. ------------------------------------
  196. WordPerfect reads the minimum print margins only when it is first
  197. started. These margins are determined by the paper size and 
  198. orientation settings in the driver. If you are unable to set the 
  199. margins to the minimum values for the printer, exit WordPerfect and 
  200. make sure that the correct paper size and orientation settings are 
  201. set in the driver through the Windows Control Panel. Then restart 
  202. WordPerfect. This problem has been fixed in version 6.0a. Contact 
  203. WordPerfect for upgrade information.
  204.  
  205. Works 2.0A, 3.0, 3.1 (Microsoft)
  206. --------------------------------
  207. Charts print incorrectly when the Automatic ColorSmart option is
  208. selected.
  209.  
  210. Write 3.1 (Microsoft)
  211. ---------------------
  212. When printing envelopes, the left and right margins are switched
  213. with each other. If clipping occurs when printing envelopes, 
  214. switch the left and right margin settings.

  218. 4. Other Known Problems
  219. ===============================================================
  220.  
  221. DOS Printing
  222. ------------
  223. If you encounter problems printing from a DOS box, check that 
  224. "Virtual Memory" is enabled in the Control Panel. If the problem
  225. persists, then disable "DOS Spooling" from the HPWCNFIG.EXE program. 
  226. HPWCNFIG.EXE is in the windows system directory.
  227.  
  228. DOS Redirection in Windows 95
  229. -----------------------------
  230. Upon installation of the driver in Windows 95, redirection of 
  231. DOS box printing is not activated. To enable DOS box printing 
  232. redirection, an immediate reboot of the system is recommended.

  234. Windows 95 Spooler
  235. ------------------
  236. The default Spool data format is 'EMF'. If you select 'RAW', this 
  237. is equivalent to disabling spooling. The HP's PrintSmart for 
  238. Windows Printer Driver cannot spool RAW data.
  239.  
  240. The page progress for print jobs shown in the spooler always
  241. indicates the current printing page as 0. However, the correct 
  242. page number is displayed in the DeskJet Status Monitor, and the 
  243. jobs will still print as normal.
  244.  
  245. Windows for Workgroups Network Printing
  246. ---------------------------------------
  247. Sharing printers from a Windows for Workgroups machine is not
  248. supported. (This is NOT a network printer.) If you must do this, 
  249. then ensure that the server machine is not being used for printing 
  250. while network jobs are being sent to the printer. This limitation 
  251. does not exist with Windows 95.

  253. Windows 95 Friendly Printer Names
  254. ---------------------------------
  255. To install more than one friendly printer name for a single 
  256. printer, select Add Printer, and when asked to select a printer, 
  257. click on 'HP'. Then scroll to the bottom of the 'Printers' list 
  258. to locate the printer.

  262. 5. Print Regions and Margins
  263. ================================================================
  264. The minimum top margin using the HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer
  265. Driver is 1/3 inch. The bottom margin for the HP DeskJet 340 Printer 
  266. is 1/2 inch and that for the HP DeskJet 400 Printer is 2/3 inch.

  268. Note: The printable area on a page using the HP DeskJet printer
  269. software differs from the printable area allowed by DOS software
  270. programs.
