  198.    Upgrading Graphite Terminator 64/VRAM cards
  199.    -------------------------------------------
  200.    Graphite Terminator 64/VRAM cards configured with 2MB of memory
  201.    (models GT2220 and GT2020) can be upgraded to 4MB using standard
  202.    VRAM chips.  You can obtain a Graphite Terminator Memory Upgrade
  203.    KIT (model GT-KIT) from your reseller or driectly from Hercules.
  204.  
  205.    You can also use standard VRAM chips from the following qualified
  206.    memory manufacturers:
  207.  
  208.    Samsung Electronics  Part#: KM428C256J-7 or KM428C257J-7
  209.  
  210.    This is currently the only memory certified to run correctly on the
  211.    Graphite Terminator 64/VRAM cards.  Using other memory may cause 
  212.    video noise or other visual problems and is not recommended.
  213.  
  214.    Due to limitations of the S3 Vision968 and the 220MHz IBM RGB524 
  215.    Palette DAC, Graphite Terminator Professional cards configured with 
  216.    2MB of memory CANNOT be upgraded.

  220.    Enabling the Snoop Function
  221.    ---------------------------
  222.    Some add-in boards must obtain the palette data from a
  223.    motherboard bus (eg. PCI bus), in addition to the video data
  224.    at the feature connector, in order to operate properly. If a
  225.    motherboard does not enable the snoop function on the Terminator,
  226.    the add-in board will not be able to get the palette data,
  227.    and you will see wrong colors generated by the add-in board.
  228.  
  229.    You can use the S3SNOOP.COM TSR utility to enable the snoop
  230.    function.
  231.  
  232.      Type S3SNOOP [ENTER] to install the TSR with default values.
  233.      Type S3SNOOP -U [ENTER] to unload the TSR from memory.
  234.      Type S3SNOOP -? [ENTER] for a list of options. 
  235.  
  236.    If you do not have such an add-in board, or your add-in board
  237.    does not require any palette data, or your motherboard turns
  238.    on the snoop function properly, then you should not use this TSR.

  242.    Video for Windows Runtime 1.1e for Windows 3.x
  243.    ----------------------------------------------
  244.    Graphite Terminator Professional models ship with a runtime 
  245.    version of Video for Windows 1.1e for Windows 3.x, which includes
  246.    the DCI driver for the S3 Vision968.  In order to take advantage
  247.    of the Power Playback video acceleration features on the Terminator
  248.    Professional, you must install the VfW runtime software.
  249.  
  250.    To do this, go to the Windows Program Manager and select File|Run 
  251.    from the menu and type:

  255.    Just follow the directions on screen to complete the installation.

  257.    Because Power Playback uses DCI, the standard Microsoft Media 
  258.    Player, as well as our new Power Player utility, automatically take 
  259.    advantage of the video acceleration features in the S3 Vision968.

  263.    Power Playback for Video Acceleration Limitations
  264.    -------------------------------------------------
  265.    Terminator Professional models (S3 Vision968 based):
  266.  
  267.      Due to the design limitation of the S3 Vision968 chip, the video
  268.      acceleration features are not available in the 1280x1024x24 packed 
  269.      pixel mode.
  270.  
  271.    Terminator 64/VRAM models (S3 Vision964 based):
  272.  
  273.      The Terminator 64/VRAM cards do not support Power Playback for 
  274.      Video, as the Vision964 chip does not include the scaling or
  275.      color space conversion features found on the Vision968.
  276.      However, you can still use the Power Preview and the Power Player
  277.      utilities but there won't be any video acceleration. You must also
  278.      have Video for Windows installed properly, otherwise, you will
  279.      get error messages like "Cannot find MSVIDEO.DLL ...".

  281.      You can obtain the runtime version of Video for Windows from
  282.      on-line services like America On Line, or from BBS services
  283.      like Hercules'.
