  10. This READMECA.TXT file contains supplemental information to help you
  11. use the Color Advisor.  As with most software and hardware products,
  12. some information is made available after the User's Manual is printed.
  13. Updated information is provided in this READMECA.TXT file.  If any of 
  14. the information in this file is inaccurate or you require further

  27. Enabling the Color Advisor
  28. ==========================
  29. The Color Advisor software is automatically installed with the printer
  30. driver software.  After installing Color Advisor, you must activate it
  31. in the printer driver dialog box.  You can access the printer driver 
  32. either through an application's Print or Print Setup dialog, or 
  33. directly through the Control Panel\Printers dialog.  Select the
  34. "Setting" tab in the printer driver, and click on the green check mark
  35. to activate Color Advisor.

  38. Using the Color Advisor
  39. ========================
  40. Color Advisor is a tool that assists you in colorizing documents.
  41. Color Advisor is optimized for use with text documents that have
  42. limited graphics.  We recommend using Color Advisor primarily with
  43. word processing documents and to a lesser degree with spreadsheet
  44. and presentation files.  
  45.  
  46. When the Color Advisor is activated, the Color Advisor will appear
  47. after you click File/Print from within your application.  Color
  48. Advisor displays your document, and allows you to select color schemes,
  49. add color to text and graphics, add backgrounds and enhance text with 
  50. special effects.

  52. Color Advisor has been designed and tested to work with the following

  88. Recommended Print Settings for Color Advisor
  89. =============================================
  90. Color Advisor should be used with the "Color" and "Automatic"
  91. settings selected in the printer driver.
  92.

  94. To Improve Printing Speed:
  95. =======================================
  96.   *Turn off the "Print Manager" in the Windows "Control Panel". This
  97.    may increase your printing speed by as much as 25% depending on the 
  98.    computer you are using.
  99.  
  100.   *Under the 386 Enhanced icon in the Windows 3.1x "Control Panel", 
  101.    add or create a permanent swap file that is from 4MB to 10MB.  See
  102.    your Windows documentation for these instructions.
  103.  
  104.   *Limit the number of colors on each page; too many colors can make
  105.    the image confusing and less effective as well as cause the print
  106.    speed to slow down.
  107.  
  108.   *Color Advisor is optimized for use with True Type fonts. To obtain
  109.    the best performance, replace any bitmap fonts in your document with
  110.    True Type fonts.
  111.

  113. Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions
  114. =======================================
  115. 1.  A mouse is required to use Color Advisor. Common "command
  116.     keys" or "hot keys" are not supported.
  117.  
  118. 2.  Objects that will be smaller than 5 pixels in height or width when 
  119.     printed will not be colorized by Color Advisor. The screen fonts 
  120.     "Modern", "Script" and "Roman" have a thickness of only 1 pixel
  121.     when printed, and cannot be colored by Color Advisor.
  122.  
  123. 3.  If your document contains ATM fonts and your video display is set
  124.     to display 256 colors, changes to the colors in the Paint Box may
  125.     not be immediately reflected in the text in the document viewing
  126.     area. A Zoom/Unzoom, or any action that causes the document to be
  127.     re-drawn will correct the display.
  128.  
  129. 4.  If you attempt to print using Color Advisor while your printer is
  130.     off line, you must take the following steps to fully cancel the
  131.     print job.  First respond to the off line error message by pressing
  132.     Retry.  Next press the Cancel button in the Color Advisor print
  133.     progress dialog box. 
  134.  
  135. 5.  The Hallmark Everyday Greetings application on the Canon Creative
  136.     CD is not supported by Color Advisor.
  137.  
  138. 6.  When using Color Advisor under Windows 95, use ALT-ESC to switch 
  139.     between tasks rather than ALT-TAB.
  140.  
  141. 7.  If your Word Perfect document contains pages in alternate page 
  142.     orientation (one page is landscape, the next is portrait) it will
  143.     be sent to Color Advisor as multiple files.  You may still use 
  144.     Color Advisor, but you will have to colorize each page separately.
  145.  
  146. 8.  Color Advisor does not support applications that use batch printing
  147.     processes, such as Microsoft Office Binder.  Please disable Color 
  148.     Advisor before printing with these applications.
  149.  
  150. 9.  If you are using fonts with large point sizes and text effects with
  151.     Windows 95, it is recommended that you use the Spool Setting "raw" 
  152.     instead of the default Spool data format "EMF". 
  153.  
  154. 10. If you are using Windows 95, and your AmiPro portrait document 
  155.     prints out in landscape, turn off background printing in AmiPrint
  156.     and the document will print correctly.
  157.  
  158. 11. Color Advisor is not compatible with Microsoft BOB.  Color Advisor
  159.     will be automatically disabled when MS BOB is running.
  160.  
  161. 12. If the highlight color in your Windows display appearance setting
  162.     is blue, you may have difficulty seeing the names of the Coloring
  163.     templates that appear in blue.  Change your highlight to another
  164.     color.  The Coloring Templates that appear in blue are those that
  165.     you create, and the application specific templates that come with
  166.     Color Advisor.

  168. 13. It is recommended that you do not use Color Advisor when printing
  169.     from the Windows File Manager.  Instead print from within the 
  170.     application used to create the document.
  171.  
  172. 14. Color Advisor does not fully support Quicken version 4.0.  If you
  173.     want to use Color Advisor with Quicken, please upgrade to Quicken
  174.     version 5.0.
