  4. This text file contains a full description of Exile III: Ruined World 
  5. and some troubleshooting information. If you have trouble installing 
  6. or playing Exile III, look below.

  8. DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME:

  10. Exile III: Ruined World is a massive, fascinating role-playing game 
  11. for Windows 3.1/95. It has gorgeous, professionally done graphics, 
  12. an elegant one-click interface, and a fascinated, twisting plot. 
  13. Your people are trapped in a cavern nation far below the surface of 
  14. the earth. Your mission: find a way for them to escape. It's from 
  15. Spiderweb Software, Inc. $25 shareware. Requires 256 colors, 13"

  23. TROUBLESHOOTING:

  25. The information below should solve many of your problems installing
  26. or running Exile III: Ruined World...
  27.  
  28. Question:  Exile III refuses to install!
  29. Answer: First, make sure you have ten megabytes of free space on the 
  30. drive you're trying to install to (the game takes up 7, but the 
  31. installer needs a little extra space). Then reboot, make sure no other 
  32. programs are running, and try installing Exile III again. If this 
  33. doesn't work, your download may be corrupted. Try redownloading.

  35. Question:  Exile III crashes sometimes for no reason!
  36. Answer: Several steps to try, which will eliminate many problems.
  37. 1. Select Preferences from the File menu. Select Fewer Sounds. If 
  38. this doesn't help, turn off sounds. This will fix most problems.
  39. 2. Run Exile III with no other programs running.
  40. 3. Make sure you have 3 megabytes of free RAM.

  42. Question:  I get crashes when targeting a spell or missile, and nothing 
  43. helps!
  44. Answer: Select Preferences from the File menu. Select No Targeting
  45. Line.

  47. Question:  The Exile III screen is really tiny!
  48. Answer: Go into Windows preferences, and select a monitor mode with a 
  49. different resolution. 640x480 is recommended. (On windows 95, right 
  50. click on the desktop, select Properties, and click on the settings
  51. tab.)

  53. Question: The Exile III screen colors are all bizarre!
  54. Answer:  You need to play Exile III in 256 color mode. Run Exile III, 
  55. hit F1 (for help), and read the section on troubleshooting to find 
  56. out how to get 256 colors on your screen.

  58. Question:  OK. I installed the game. It runs fine. It looks fine. But I
  59. keep starving, if the monsters don't kill me first, and I don't have any 
  60. gold!
  61. Answer:  Read the Hints For Getting Started section near the end of the 
  62. manual (hit F1 to get the manual).

  64. Question: Sometimes, when I switch to another window and
  65. switch back to Exile III, the colors are all strange.
  66. Answer: One of the other programs you're running is messing with Exile
  67. III's color management. Quit everything else you're using (including the
  68. fancy front-end programs some computers come with) and try running Exile
  69. III again.
