  5. Installing Vern 1.101

  8. - Copy the distribution file vern1101.zip to the directory where
  9.   you want to install vern
  10. - Unzip vern1101.zip
  11. - Optionally delete vern1101.zip
  12. - Run vern95.exe

  14. That's it.  If you want vern to start each time you
  15. start windows, create a shortcut in your StartUp
  16. menu, normally,

  21. on Vern and select 'Add to Startup Folder'.

  34.    - added options to the Cells Tab of the properties dialog box to
  35.      control how vern is repainted

  40.    - vern can now be made to hide on an edge.  If you have a horizontal
  41.      vern with 10 cells and your Task bar is at the bottom of the screen
  42.      slide vern up to the top of the screen and let go.  Selecting another
  43.      program hides vern.  Move your cursor over the area where vern is
  44.      hiding to restore Vern.

  63.    - fixed lost vern problem.  Vern could be moved off screen which made
  64.      it difficult to negotiate vernspace.  This only happened when moving
  65.      vern and releasing the mouse button off screen (something which I
  66.      had been unable to do but which was pointed out my an alert user).
  67.    - changed hotkey from Alt-Cursor (used by some programs) to Ctrl-Alt-Cursor
  68.      (which seems to be rare).
  69.    - fixed problem where a window would not be raised to the foreground if
  70.      it were selected in Vern while in the current vern screen.

  76.    - Fixed Visual Basic Problem.  The main Visual Basic window (parent)
  77.      is given coords of (0,0)-(0,0) so it was not being moved.  I've
  78.      added a hack to move this window around properly (as much as I've
  79.      tested without my own copy of VB) throughout vern space.
  80.    - If the 'Freeze Cells' option was selected it was possible to make
  81.      vern so small that it was impossible to make it bigger again.  This
  82.      has been fixed by ensuring that the width and/or height of an
  83.      individual vern cell is at least 8 pixels.

  85. Ver. 1.017 Final Beta III : May 15, 1996
  86.    - Can Move Vern Without holding the Ctrl key down
  87.    - If vern was laid out horizontally and mouse switching was selected
  88.      then scrolling could lead to unwanted mouse switches.  This has been
  89.      eliminated by ignorning mouse switches when the Left Mouse button
  90.      is down.
  91.    - Fixed double click option which somehow got broken while featurising
  92.    - Moved the priorities menu from the options menu to the main menu.
  93.      Someone pointed out that when using Mathematica (or one of the math
  94.      packages, I'm going from memory) it ran 3 times faster when set with
  95.      a *high* priority!  This is much more convenient.

  97. Ver. 1.016 Final Beta II : May 9, 1996
  98.    - Fixed a painting problem (mostly cosmetic)
  99.    - Fixed a problem with toolbar type programs (like the
  100.      MS Office Toolbar, Appbar, ...)  These programs are no longer,
  101.      and should never have been, movable.
  102.    - Still haven't been able to find a fix for Xmouse other than
  103.      making sure that Xmouse is loaded AFTER vern. 
  104.    - Still don't know why Eudora Pro doesn't work.  In the interrum
  105.      I suggest 'Gluing' Eudora to the Vern desktop so that it is
  106.      not Movable.

  108. Ver. 1.015 Final Beta : May 3, 1996
  109.    - Fixed a weird problem which was introduced in ver 1.014.  If
  110.      one were to switch back and forth between two windows really
  111.      quickly the program would continue switching between the
  112.      windows ad nauseum.  Nausiating, yes.
  113.    - The icons are now BIGGER and easier to identify.
  114.    - dragging the little windows works better
  115.    - Changed home site to http://www.cam.org/~oneguy
  116.    - there a still a couple problems with repaints but other than
  117.      that this is almost certainly the final beta before the official
  118.      release

  121.    - Fixed (I hope) a problem where a window would be flagged being
  122.      restored (ie., not iconic) and yet still have the coordinates
  123.      of a minimised window.  I'll have to check the fix for various
  124.      resolutions (it works at 1024x768)
  125.    - removed the windows check timeout from the cells tab of properties
  126.    - replaced with hooks for activation, creation, destruction as
  127.      well as min/max and move/size.  Much cleaner.
  128. Ver. 1.013 beta : April 18, 1996
  129.    - Fixed (again, argh) the owned popups problem.  The popups would
  130.      appear properly only if the window was *NOT* maximised (since
  131.      I rarely work with maximised windows this one slipped by me)
  132.      I pray to the good laird above that this has finally fixed
  133.      the bloody problem.
  134.    - Occasionally, if Auto Activate and Mouse Switching were both
  135.      activated, a program window would be positioned at apparently random
  136.      locations when *restoring* (that is, un-minimising) the app.  I've
  137.      taken steps to prevent this (I believe it occurs when a mouse
  138.      switch event occurs while a window is being restored, I'm not
  139.      sure if this is licked but with this version I've minimised and
  140.      restored several applications many times and it hasn't happened
  141.      to me yet.  Keeping my fingers crossed.
  142.    - The first item on the Switch To menu was not responding.  This is
  143.      definitely fixed!

  147.      and the active vern cell would spontaneously change
