  14. Spades has always been one of my favorite card games, and , in my opinion,
  15. I'm a pretty good player. I did my best to instill my knowledge of the
  16. game into this program so that it will be challenging. You, of course,
  17. will be the final judge of how well I did.

  19. Spades is Shareware. Feel free to pass the shareware evaluation version
  20. (SPADE2.ZIP) along to anybody you see fit, or upload it to any BBS you
  21. want. All I ask is that you pass the ZIP file along with out altering its
  22. contents in any way.

  24. The registration price is $19.95 plus S/H. There are three ways to register:

  26.     1) Cash, Check or Money Order
  27.         When the program first starts click on the Cash Order
  28.         button and fill out and print the order form. Mail the
  29.         order form and the amount due in the form of Cash, Check

  76. Installation
  77.  
  78. Aside from the ZIP file SPADE2.ZIP you will need one other file to
  79. successfully install and run Spades. You will need:
  80.  
  81.     VBRUN300.DLL
  82.  
  83. VBRUN300.DLL is the run-time module needed to run all programs written in
  84. the language Visual Basic. VBRUN300.DLL can be found on all on-line 
  85. services. It is usually stored as VBRUN3.ZIP. You can also get it from my
  86. web page (See below for the URL). After logging on to my homepage go to
  87. the "What You Need" section. Once you have VBRUN300.DLL put this file in 
  88. your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

  90. Installing Spades is pretty easy.

  92.     Windows 3.1
  93.         If you have the files on a disk in drive
  94.         A: you would select Run from the File menu of the 
  95.         Program Manager and then type in A:\setup and hit
  96.         the Enter key.

  98.         If the files are in a directory on your hard drive
  99.         you can Double-Click on the SETUP.EXE file from the
  100.         File Manager.

  102.     Windows 95
  103.         If you have the files on a disk in drive
  104.         A: you would select Run from the Start menu of the 
  105.         Windows 95 Task Bar and then type in A:\setup and hit
  106.         the Enter key.

  108.         If the files are in a directory on your hard drive
  109.         you can Right-Click (click the right mouse button)
  110.         on the SETUP.EXE file from the Explorer and then select 
  111.         Open from the menu that appears.

  114.         Below is a list of the files that are in the archive file
  115.         SPADE2.ZIP. The files that end in an underscore (_) are in a
  116.         compressed state and can not be used until they are 
  117.         uncompressed by the setup program.

  156.     Fixes problem of no card selected by a player going nil who
  157.     has already taken a trick. This would throw their card count off
  158.     and set a faulty suit.    
  159. Version 2.7
  160.     Finally fixed the errors that were supposed to be fixed 
  161.     in version 2.6b. Also fixed the bug where a player bidding
  162.     nil would sometimes pass two of the same cards to his/her
  163.     partner. This error always ended up with two kings of the
  164.     same suit being passed. These bugs were actually all 
  165.     inter-related and embarrassingly simple to fix. It was
  166.     just a matter of me staring at the screen long enough.

  169. To upgrade the registered version follow these steps:
  170.     1) Make a backup copy of the distribution disk
  171.     2) Copy this readme.txt file and the file SPADE.EX_ onto
  172.        the distribution disk overwriting the existing files
  173.        on the disk.
  174.     3) Insert the distribution disk into the floppy drive and
  175.        run the Setup program to install the upgrade.
