  1. General CD-ROM/RD Library Functions
  2.  
  3.  
  4. GENERAL INFORMATION
  5.  
  6. To access the CD-ROM/RD Library, simply access the Main Menu and select the
  7. desired library from the toolbar or pulldown menu. You may also use the 
  8. Windows "Start" Menu to select the CD-Runner Applications menu followed by the
  9. desired library, to enter it directly from Windows. The library section 
  10. allows you to enter new CD-ROM or RD applications into the database, or to 
  11. modify/delete existing applications. Any number of applications may be setup 
  12. for a single CD-ROM or RD, depending on the applications stored onto the disk.

  14. Entering a new CD-ROM or Removable Disk into the CD-Runner Library initially is 
  15. required so that CD-Runner will properly identify the disk loaded and run the 
  16. desired application(s) setup for it. Libraries for both CD-ROMs and RDs are 
  17. included in CD-Runner; the primary difference between the two libraries is the 
  18. way in which CD-ROMs and RDs are identified. To enter a new CD-ROM or RD into 
  19. the library, place the new disk in the default drive (e.g. if your default 
  20. CD-ROM drive is "D", then place the new CD-ROM in drive D). This will ensure 
  21. that the unique disk identification required is properly read off of the disk. 
  22. Access the library section either by clicking on the CD-ROM/RD Library icon in 
  23. the CD-Runner Applications Group, or run CD-Runner and enter by clicking on the 
  24. "Library" button in the CD-ROM/RD Runner section.

  27. NAVIGATION
  28.  
  29. To navigate among the many CD-Runner library screens, you may either use the 
  30. topmost pulldown menus, click on the appropriate toolbar icon, or use the popup
  31. menu. To see the function of any of the toolbar icons, simply leave the mouse 
  32. pointer on the icon for a moment and an icon description box will appear below 
  33. it. To use the popup menu, right-click the mouse on a desired record number or 
  34. any of the application information or icons; a popup menu for that application
  35. will appear. You may also use the keyboard cursor keys to highlight an 
  36. application and use the "Edit-Popup Menu" option. The popup menu contains 
  37. commands for Edit, Copy, Cut, Move, Paste, Delete, Sort and Cancel. You may 
  38. also use the hotkeys listed (e.g. Ctrl-E for Edit).

  41. CD-ROM/RD Libraries
  42.  
  43. You may access either the CD-ROM or Removable Disk libraries from the library 
  44. section. These are two different libraries or groups; the currently accessed 
  45. library will appear at the bottom left corner of the screen. To change to 
  46. either the CD-ROM or RD library, you may use the toolbar icons or the pulldown
  47. menus.

  50. EDIT COMMANDS
  51.  
  52. All of the common database editing commands are included in the library 
  53. section. These include Save, Undo, Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Move, Sort, Add, 
  54. Insert and Edit (modify). The save command saves and editing changes or 
  55. additions made. The undo command will undo any changes made to the point of 
  56. the last time you saved changes. The cut command will delete the selected 
  57. record and store its contents into the clipboard. The copy command will 
  58. simply store the selected records contents without deleting it. The paste 
  59. command will insert the contents of the clipboard (stored using the cut or 
  60. copy commands) at a specified record number. The move command will move the 
  61. entire record to a new position or record number. The sort command allows 
  62. you to sort all records by either title, description or path. The add and 
  63. insert commands allow you to enter new applications into the database, and 
  64. are discussed in detail below. The edit command allows you to modify the 
  65. information entered for an existing record; see the add/edit dialog box 
  66. section below for further information.

  69. ADDING A NEW CD-ROM/RD
  70.  
  71. Use the "ADD" or "INSERT" options to enter new applications for the CD-ROM or 
  72. RD; click on the ADD icon or select the Edit-Add New Program pulldown menu to 
  73. add a new application at the next available record (at the end of the list). 
  74. The insert option is the same as the add option except you will be prompted 
  75. as to where to insert the new record. One important thing to note (particularly 
  76. with CD-ROMs) is if the CD-ROM/RD application stores and uses a subdirectory 
  77. on your hard drive; this is important because the executable file to run the 
  78. application must be properly identified. For example, if you have just setup 
  79. a new multimedia encylopedia, and it creates a subdirectory on your "C" (hard) 
  80. drive named "C:\ENCYLOP" in which it copies setup files and an executable file
  81. name "RUNENCY.EXE", then in the CD-Runner Library this is the file to be 
  82. selected when adding the application.

  84. If you are unsure of the proper executable file to be used to run a new 
  85. application, then use the Windows Explorer "Properties" option on the CD-ROM/RD 
  86. icon created by the application to identify the "Command Line" (executable file) 
  87. and "Working Directory" (location of drive/subdirectory).

  89. TIP: Since CD-Runner will start searching for CD-ROM applications beginning at
  90. record number 1, if you have several hundred CD-ROMs entered be sure to insert 
  91. (or move) the most frequently accessed CD-ROMs to the lowest record numbers. 
  92. This will greatly speed the time required to identify and run an application.

  95. ADD/EDIT DIALOG BOX
  96.  
  97. When you are adding or inserting a new application or editing an existing 
  98. application, a dialog box will appear to allow you to enter specific 
  99. information and options. You must enter the executable file and path (described
  100. above) into the command line box. You may do this by either typing in the 
  101. executable file name and path directly, or by clicking on the Browse button and
  102. selecting it with the mouse. Although not mandatory, it is useful to enter an 
  103. application title and description. You may also select an icon or bitmapped 
  104. picture to be associated with the application. If you wish to password protect
  105. the application, you may enter a password. Finally, you may select a sound 
  106. (wave) file to be associated with the application. This may be a short musical
  107. score or clip from a movie, or a custom wave file which you have recorded 
  108. yourself to provide voice help for another user before he/she runs the 
  109. application.

  112. PRINT OPTION
  113.  
  114. You may print a listing of the CD-ROM or RD library by selecting the print 
  115. icon on the toolbar, or by using the "File-Print" option. A listing containing
  116. the title(s), description(s) and type(s) will be printed for every application
  117. entered into either the CD-ROM or RD library.
