  1. Welcome to More Space 95 for Windows 95!  This popular shareware 
  2. utility was written to help you clean up your hard disk.  It does 
  3. this by identifying file duplicates, large files, old files 
  4. and obsolete files.

  6. NEW FEATURES IN 2.8 -

  8. ** You can now clean out the internet cache folders based on the
  9.    access dates of the files in the cache.
  10.  
  11. ** Instead of sending files to the recycle bin or simply deleting 
  12.    them you can compress them into zip files over the network or
  13.    onto a different disk.  The files are named such that it is easy
  14.    to recover the deleted files from the zip files automatically.
  15.  
  16. ** More Space is intelligent about giving you advice on which files
  17.    you should and which files should not be deleted.  It works by
  18.    scanning the registry for references to folders and if a file 
  19.    is in a folder on the list you will be advised NOT to delete
  20.    the particular file.

  22. If you don't want More Space 95, it comes with an uninstall option
  23. which will clean itself off your hard disk.

  25. Duplicates can be identified by several different criteria:
  26.  
  27.   1) Name only
  28.   2) Name and size
  29.   3) Name, size and modified date/time
  30.   4) Size only
  31.   5) Size and modified date/time
  32.   6) Size and type
  33.   7) Type and modified date/time
  34.  
  35. Once the duplicates are identified you can view each pair of duplicates
  36. on a split screen comparing dates, times, attributes, sizes and even
  37. the file contents.  The differences are color highlighted between file
  38. pairs giving you an easy way to determine which file you need to keep.
  39. Many DLL and EXE files contain extra version information normally not 
  40. visible.  This extra information is also displayed in the file pair
  41. display.

  43. Large files (or file hogs) are identified by size with the largest files
  44. appearing at the top of the list.  You can also identify zero length
  45. files.

  47. Old obsolete files are identified by access date, creation date and 
  48. modification date.  You can view all files that were accessed today.
  49. You can view all files that are more than 3 years old.

  51. Large obsolete folders are also displayed as each folder and all sub-folders
  52. and files are totalled under each main folder.

  54. You can quickly clean up your hard disk searching for particular types of
  55. file extensions such as TMP, $$$, OLD, BAK.

  57. The file/disk statistics are very powerful in that they can total up the
  58. cumulative file sizes, file ages, file types and usage times of each
  59. file on the hard disk.  All graphs are very easy to read and in 3D.  You
  60. can zoom in any graph simply by dragging the mouse from the upper left
  61. to the lower right area of the area in view.  The time statistic can be
  62. interesting particularly if you work with a specific set of file types
  63. on a daily basis.  For example if you work with *.DOC and *.XLS files
  64. everyday you can include only these file types during statistic collection
  65. and you will be rewarded with a 24 hour chart that lists the peak times
  66. of activity during the day.

  68. Sometimes it is nice to be able to 'peek' inside of a program file ... i.e. you
  69. want to view the english strings inside which may reveal copyright information,
  70. author information, error messages and such.  More Space allows you to PEEK 
  71. inside a file while browsing.  Generally most information inside of 
  72. program files such as EXE or DLL files looks like heiroglyphics.  The peek 
  73. function will get past the heiroglyphics and get you to english language
  74. strings.  This can be very informative as oftentimes software vendors will
  75. include some very revealing information such as the names of the programmers
  76. involved in the project or some nasty error messages.

  78. More Space 95 is available as shareware.  The registered version allows you
  79. to search for duplicates and search for files over multiple mapped drives.
