- 1. Manual Installation for Microsoft Word 7.0
- -----------------------------------------------
- If the WriteExpress Easy Letters program was not installed correctly for
- Microsoft Word 7.0, then read this section.

- If the WriteExpress Easy Letters Setup program could not locate the
- WINWORD\STARTUP directory, the file writex32.wll was installed to the
- PROGRAM directory under the target directory chosen during installation.

- There are two options for manual installation:
- a. Option One--Copy all Writing Express files to the Word startup directory.
-
- To do this, locate the WINWORD\STARTUP directory. By default, this
- directory is c:\msoffice\winword\startup
-
- Copy all the WriteExpress Easy Letters files to the WINWORD\STARTUP
- directory. Run Microsoft Word 7. Click WriteExpress Easy Letters from the
- Word Tools menu.

- b. Option Two--Create a shortcut to Microsoft Word 7 and load
- WriteExpress Easy Letters as an add-on program.

- To do this, right click on your desktop. Select New and then Shortcut.
- Next, type
- C:\MSOffice\Winword\Winword.exe /lc:\DESTINATION DIRECTORY\writex32.wll
- where C:\MSOffice\Winword\ is the directory of Microsoft Word 7.0 and
- c:\DESTINATION DIRECTORY\ is the directory where WriteExpress Easy
- Letters was installed.

- Click the shortcut you created for Microsoft Word 7.0. After Word loads,
- start WriteExpress Easy Letters from the Word Tools menu.

- 2. Manual Installation for Microsoft Word 97
- -----------------------------------------------
- If the WriteExpress Easy Letters Setup program could not locate the
- WINWORD\STARTUP directory, the file writex32.wll was installed to the

- directory. Run Microsoft Word 97. Click WriteExpress Easy Letters from the
- Word 97 Tools menu.

- b. Option Two--Create a shortcut to Microsoft Word 97 (file Winword.exe) and
- load WriteExpress Easy Letters as an add-on program.

- To do this, right click on your desktop. Select New and then Shortcut.
- Next, type
- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe /lc:\DESTINATION DIRECTORY\writex32.wll
- where C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\ is the directory of
- Microsoft Word 97 and c:\DESTINATION DIRECTORY\ is the directory where
- WriteExpress Easy Letters was installed.

- 3. Uninstall WriteExpress Easy Letters
- -----------------------------------------------
- To uninstall WriteExpress Easy Letters, carry out the following procedure:

- 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- 2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- 3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click WriteExpress Easy Letters, and then
- click Add/Remove.

- 4. How to use WriteExpress Easy Letters
- -----------------------------------------------
- To use the program in Windows 95, 98 or NT:
- If you are using Microsoft Word 97, Word 7.0, or Corel
- WordPerfect 8 or WordPerfect 7, WriteExpress will integrate
- directly with your word processor tools menu. When you are
- prepared to write a letter in these word processors, simply
- access WriteExpress Easy Letters by selecting it from the tools
- menu, and follow the three-step process below:

- Write letters in three easy steps:
-
- 1. Select your letter topic.
-
- Click either the Show categories and topics button or the Search
- for a topic button. If you use the Show categories and topics
- button, click on one of the 56 writing categories to see the list
- of topics in that category. Select your topic and click the Next
- button to continue.

- If you want to search for a topic containing specific words,
- click the Search for a topic button. Type one or more words you
- want to find. For example, type congratulate to find all topics
- containing the word congratulate.

- Click on the Find button.
-
- Tip: Click the Options button to enhance your search. If the word
- you searched for is not found, try a different form of the word.
- Select your topic and click the Next button to continue.

- 2. See the writing tips and steps recommended by professionals.
-
- Tips provide do's, don'ts, and other helpful information for
- writing a letter about the topic you've selected.
-
- Steps guide you through the writing process, instructing you how
- to begin, develop, and end the letter. Click the Next button to
- continue.

- 3. Focus on each step and select sample sentences and phrases
- that you can insert into your word processor. Or, insert one of
- more than 2,000 professionally written letters and add your
- personal touch.

- Sentences. The first step will appear with example sentences
- (items) that illustrate ways of expressing the content of that
- step. When you find a sentence that seems to be close to what you
- want to say, you may copy and paste the sentence into your
- document. If you invoked WriteExpress from your word processor's
- Tools menu, click the Insert button to insert that sentence into
- your document. You may edit the sentence to meet your specific
- needs either before or after you insert/copy it into your
- document.

- Repeat this procedure with all subsequent steps until the letter
- contains all the important ideas. At any time you may minimize
- the WriteExpress window or close it for final editing in your
- word processor.

- Phrases. With each step you may also click on the Phrases button
- to see a list of phrases that good writers use when focusing on
- that step. You may also insert/copy any phrase into your
- document.

- Letters. Each topic contains three or more ready-to-use letters.
- Click on the "Letters of current topic" button to see the
- letters. You may also insert/copy any letter into your document.

- 5. About Phrase a Thought
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- Phrase a Thought can help you find specific words in phrases,
- sentences, and letters to help you phrase a thought. For example,
- if you want to express thanks to someone, you can search for
- sentences, phrases, or letters containing the word thank.

- Click the Sentences button. Type thank in the edit text box.
- Click the Find button to see sentences containing the word thank.
-
- Click the Phrases button to see phrases containing the word
- thank.

- Click the Letters button to see letters containing the word
- thank.

- Tip: Click the Options button to enhance your search. If the word
- you searched for is not found, try a different form of the word.

- 6. WriteExpress Rhymer and Phonetic Finder Product Description
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- WriteExpress offers you the most powerful rhyming tool available!
- It is a "Must Have" for poets, song writers, linguists, teachers,
- researchers, and other language lovers.

- With Rhymer you can find a rhyme in no time. Search for end
- rhymes, last syllable rhymes, double rhymes, triple rhymes,
- beginning rhymes, or first syllable rhymes. You can also specify
- the number of syllables or letters you want in the words.

- With Phonetic Finder you can save time brainstorming for words
- containing specific sound combinations. First, choose symbols
- from the phonetic chart containing symbols for English vowels,
- stops, fricatives, affricates, liquids, and glides. Use the "wild
- card" symbols to match zero or more sounds, any single sound,
- consonant, or vowel sounds. Once you have assembled your phonetic
- pattern, click the Search button to retrieve a list of words with
- that pattern. The Phonetic Finder quickly assembles data for
- minimal pairs, pronunciations exercises, phonics research, and
- other types of phonetic study.
