  19. INSTALLATION
  20. ============
  21. The Password for SCOTLAND YARD is "DEMO".
  22.  
  23. To install Scotland Yard, run the SETUP.EXE file.
  24.  
  25. When installing SCOTLAND YARD for the first time, you should
  26. instal SCOTLAND YARD to a network drive (and directory).  Make
  27. sure that all users will have access to the directory that you
  28. installed SCOTLAND YARD in (the default will be F:\SCOTLAND ).
  29.  
  30. After installing SCOTLAND YARD to the network, SCOTLAND YARD is ready
  31. to run.  To install SCOTLAND YARD for other users, you simply need to
  32. create a shortcut on their desktop to the SCOTLAND.EXE that you
  33. installed onto the network.  Don't run the SETUP.EXE again on other
  34. computers.  Doing so will re-install the SCOTLAND YARD data files
  35. thereby erasing all changes you may have made.

  37. Once you get in, you can go into the Employee File Management and add 
  38. your employees.   Feel free to change or delete the employees that come 
  39. with Scotland Yard.  The employees included are for helping you see how 
  40. Scotland Yard works.

  43. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USEFULL TIPS
  44. ====================================
  45. SCOTLAND YARD is an electronic Sign In/Out board to help track where
  46. employees are located.  Receptionists (and anyone else that needs to
  47. locate employees) can run the Employee Detective in SCOTLAND YARD
  48. to list employees and their current status (IN, OUT, AT LUNCH, IN
  49. MEETING etc.).   The Employee Detective screen is automatically
  50. updated every minute, so any change by employees is automatically
  51. updated in the Employee Detective screen.
  52.  
  53. Once SCOTLAND YARD is installed, Receptionists and managers can
  54. easily determine where the employees are located.  If an employee is
  55. away from their desk, the receptionist can create a phone message with
  56. SCOTLAND YARD.  When the employee signs back in, they are notified
  57. of waiting phone messages.

  59. For users that do not have Windows 95/98/NT, The Registered version of
  60. SCOTLAND YARD includes a DOS version of the Sign In/Out screen so anyone
  61. on the network can use SCOTLAND YARD!
  62.  
  63. The Employee Detective has many features.  When first run, all
  64. employees are listed.  This screen uses the latest controls from
  65. Windows '95.  You can click on any column to sort on that column.
  66. If you click on the column a second time, you get the list in the reverse
  67. sort order.  Right Clicking on any employee will display a pop-up menu that
  68. will allow you can edit the employee's status, or create a phone message.

  70. On the Tree View side of the screen, you will see that you can
  71. list all employees, list employees by department, or list employees
  72. by their current status (i.e., employees that are In, employees that are
  73. out sick, out to lunch, etc.).

  76. RUNNING SCOTLAND YARD WITH COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS:
  77. ===================================================
  78. Scotland Yard can be run with command line parameters to automatically pass 
  79. in the user's password so they do not have to enter their password every day.   
  80. To pass in a password with Scotland Yard, add the users name in quotes to the 
  81. shortcut properties in Windows 95.   (This works with the registered versions of 
  82. SCOTLAND.EXE and SIGN_IN.EXE)

  84. Example:   Target:   F:\APPS\SCOTLAND\SIGN_IN.EXE  "KATIE"
  85.  
  86. Scotland Yard will also look for the "User" environment variable for the 
  87. user's password.  If a command line password isn't entered and there is no 
  88. "User" environment variable, then Scotland Yard will prompt the user to enter 
  89. a password.

  91. It is important to optimize and reindex the files periodically.  We recommend 
  92. that you reindex the files at least once a month.  It would even be better 
  93. if you reindexed once a week!  To help facilitate this, we have added "AUTOINDEX" 
  94. as a command line parameter to SCOTLAND.EXE that can be run with the Microsoft 
  95. System Agent or any other scheduling program.   Running:

  97. Example:  Target:  F:\APPS\SCOTLAND\SCOTLAND.EXE  "AUTOINDEX"
  98.  
  99. will cause Scotland Yard to reindex and optimize all files - with no user 
  100. intervention.  Most of our customers run Scotland Yard with the "AUTOINDEX" 
  101. feature every Wednesday Night or Friday Night after all the other users have 
  102. been logged off.
