TRACE: Given a host's name or IP address, TJPingPro can trace the route the IP packets take to get to the host. This is known as "Traceroute", and is interesting to watch the torturous routing the Internet subjects your packets to. The trace function is also threaded to prevent blocking of the program. The "timeout" setting for the ping function also applies to the trace function.\n\n
LOOKUP: TJPingPro, given a host's IP address, will attempt to find it's DNS name, and vice versa. Asynchronous, non-blocking Winsock functions are called to find the host's IP address or DNS name.\n\n
LOGGING: If you choose to use the default log file, "TJPlog.txt", this file will be placed in the same directory as TJPING.EXE. You can specify any valid directory/file path, such as "C:\Temp\mylog.txt", and the file will be placed there. Only valid file names will function - for instance, "/TJPlog.txt" is not a valid file name. \n\n
REGISTRATION: TJPingPro versions 1.0 and above are SHAREWARE. To use TJPingPro beyond a 30-day trial period, click on the "Register" button above to get information on registering online or via snail mail. For site licensing information or other questions, please send me an email. TJPing version 2.0 is still freeware and is available at the Top Jimmy Software website.\n\n
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I think TJPingPro is a quality product; I've tried to make it as user-friendly and useful as possible, and I think the asking price is modest. No timebombs, no crippleware - let your conscience be your guide. If you use TJPingPro for more than 30 days, please continue to use it legally by registering it using the instructions below. Thanks.\n Top Jimmy\n\nP.S. TJPing v. 2.0 is still freeware and is available at the Top Jimmy Software website.\n\n

HOW DO YOU REGISTER?\n\nClick on the "Register Now!" button above (NT 3.51 users wil not see this button). Your web browser should take you to the online registration site. If this button doesn't work for some reason, the registration site is at \n\nhttps://www.regnow.com/softsell/nph-softsell.cgi?item=1108-1\n\nFor site licensing information, to register via normal mail, or if you have any questions, contact me by email at:\ntopjimmy@topjimmysoftware.com\n\n
RESTRICTIONS: Your registration of TJPingPro gives you use rights to 1 copy of TJPingPro only. Additional copies must be purchased for each machine it is installed on. The intellectual and property rights to TJPingPro and TJPing remain in Jim Dunne. TJPingPro is copyrighted, and all rights are reserved. You may not disassemble, decompile, reverse-engineer, etc, or sell it.
HOST MANAGER: The host manager window allows you to name your computer addresses. \n"Profile Name:" can be any name you want, and lets you give a reference name to the host computer's IP address or DNS name, which you put in the "IP Addr/DNS Name" combobox.\nThe button next to the "IP Addr/DNS Name:" combobox will show "Add Profile", "Delete Profile", or "Update Profile", depending on the text in the "Profile Name:" and "IP Addr/DNS Name:" boxes, and lets you modify the list.\nDouble-clicking on a Profile Name in the list will ping that address.\nSupports in-place label editing of Profile Names.\n\n
ISPINGER: ISPinger is an autoping feature that you can use to keep your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection from getting dumped due to inactivity. Enter a server's IP address or DNS name in the "Server Address:" edit box in the "Set Options" dialog box, and then set the ping interval. Once started, ISPinger will ping that server at the specified interval indefinitely until stopped.\nNOTE: The ISPinger options cannot be changed while ISPinger is active.\n\n
SYSTEM TRAY SUPPORT: The "System Tray" button hides the TJPingPro main window and puts an icon in the taskbar status area (system tray). This can be handy when you're just using TJPingPro as an autopinger, and you want to shrink its footprint down to the system tray. Double-clicking the icon will restore the main window. Right-clicking on it brings up a menu that lets you restore the window, start/stop ISPinger, or exit.\n\n
Unable to locate the Microsoft ICMP API! Make sure that the file ICMP.DLL is installed in the C:\Windows\system or C:\Winnt\system32 directory! Make sure that you are using the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol for your internet connection!
SEQUENCE SCANNER: Scans an ascending sequence of IP addresses. Make sure the ending IP address is greater than the starting address. For instance, the starting address could be 144.109.27.34. The ending address has to be higher, such as 144.109.32.10. You can add and delete SeqScan groups in order to remember different scan ranges,\n\nLIST SCANNER: Scans a user-defined list of IP addresses and DNS names.\n\n
ONLINE REGISTRATION: Click the "Register" button above, and then click the "Register Now!" button.\n\nREGISTRATION NUMBER ENTRY: Click the "Register" button above, and then click on the "Enter Registration Info" button.\n\n

TJPingPro - Version 1.2.1 September 8, 1998\nCopyright ⌐ 1997 - 1998. All Rights Reserved.\nWritten by Jim Dunne\ntopjimmy@topjimmysoftware.com
DISCLAIMER: TJPingPro is distributed "as is". No guarantee is made about TJPingPro - use at your own risk. The author will not be liable for any actual or claimed damages arising from its use.\n\n
RESTRICTIONS: Your registration of TJPingPro gives you use rights to 1 copy of TJPingPro only. Additional copies must be purchased for each machine it is installed on. TJPingPro is copyrighted. All rights are reserved. You may not decompile, disassemble, reverse-engineer, etc., or sell it.\n\n
COMPATIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS: TJPingPro 1.2.1 has been tested on:\nWin 95B - Winsock v. 2.2\nWin 98 - Winsock v. 2.2\nNT 4.0 - Winsock v. 2.0\n\nTJPingPro requires that the file ICMP.DLL be installed in the c:\windows\system or c:\winnt\system32 directory, depending on whether you're running Win 95 or NT. This file is automatically installed by Win 95 and NT 3.51/4.0 when the Microsoft TCP/IP network protocol is installed. TJPingPro requires the use of the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol stack.\n\n
PING: TJPingPro, given a host's IP address, sends an echo request to the host. If the host can be reached, it will send back an echo reply. This is known as "Pinging", and can quickly let you know if a host can be reached via TCP/IP. If a user enters a host's Domain Name Service (DNS) name instead of an IP address, asynchronous, non-blocking Winsock functions are called to find the host's IP address, which the program then uses to ping the host. RTT (Round Trip Time) indicates how long the packet took to get to the host and back. TTL (Time To Live) indicates how many hops the packet made.\n\n
FEATURES: TJPing has several features that enhance it's user-friendliness:\n1. The Microsoft ICMP API IcmpSendEcho function, which blocks, has been threaded to allow users to maintain control of the program during a ping.\n2. Between sessions, TJPing remembers an unlimited number of names/IP addresses and all of the options entered by the user.\n3. The results window and the "Host" box are editable using the right-mouse button or the "Ctrl" accelerator keys.\n4. Upon startup and after every ping, the cursor focus always returns to the "Host Name/IP Address:" edit box.\n\n
WIN95/NT REGISTRY INFORMATION: In order to save information from session to session, TJPingPro uses the Registry. While I have tested this program thoroughly on numerous different machines, some people may still not want it to access their Registry. But...oh my...if you're reading this, then you've already started the program. Uh oh! Ummm, well, if you'd like to remove those Registry settings, find and remove the keys:\nHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Top Jimmy Software\nHKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Top Jimmy Software\nHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TJPing.Document\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\TJPing.Document.\n\n
KNOWN BUGS: NT 3.51: The "Top Jimmy Software Homepage" button in the "About TJPingPro" dialog box doesn't display or function correctly.\n\n
THANKS: Thanks to MarkG, whoever he is, and his Win32 Programming webpage for providing me enough information about the poorly documented Microsoft ICMP API to get up and running with this project. And thanks to all the beta testers who've helped me tremendously!
