- 4. WHAT'S NEW
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 4.1 Version history
-
- v2.0.0 Major Release
- o Integrated Camtasia Studio launchpad, Camtasia Effects, and Camtasia
- Producer into a single interface for improved user workflow. This new
- unified interface is the new face of Camtasia Studio.
- o Updated the overall look of the applications with new icons, logos,
- toolbar buttons and UI styling.
- o Added Camtasia Theater for creating web presentations from SWF movies.
- o Added TechSmith EnSharpen codec for creating high-quality, lossless,
- low-bandwidth, cross-platform screen recordings in the QuickTime
- MOV format.
- o Added MP3 audio files as a supported input format.
- o Added MPEG video files as a supported input format.
- o Added WMA (Windows Media Audio) files as a supported input format.
- o Added WMV (Windows Media Video) files as a supported input format.
- o Added FLV (Flash Video) files as a supported output format.
- o Added Batch Production
- o Added Custom Production Profiles for saving production settings.
- o Added a global timeline for editing and audio across multiple clips.
- The storyboard is now a simple view of the global timeline.
- o Added real-time preview of entire project.
- o Added non-destructive, integrated audio and video editing right on
- the timeline.
- o Added Zoom-n-Pan (a.k.a. Ken Burns) effect. This is especially useful
- for screen capture videos because it makes it possible to record at a
- large size and then produce at a smaller size by selectively zooming
- in/out and panning across the original video.
- o Added new transition effects, including a smooth fade effect.
- o Added smooth keyboard navigation for precise editing control.
- o Added "Extend Frame" option as a simple way to freeze the current
- frame for a specified duration. This is helpful when adding a voice-
- over to a recorded video.
- o Added a detachable video preview window with a full screen option.
- o Added a recording wizard which steps new users through the process
- of making a screen recording.
- o Added a Task List for one click access to common functionality.
- o Added a Clip Bin to pull together audio, video, and image clips for
- a project, independent of their location on disk. The Clip Bin can
- show thumbnails or details view, and can be sorted based on clip
- properties.
- o Added the ability to toggle timeline tracks on/off as desired.
- o Added global undo/redo.
- o Added Flash Hot Spots for adding a basic level of interactivity to
- projects destined for the SWF output format.
- o Added callouts with smooth shading, fade in/out, and anti-aliased
- text with flexible formatting.
-
-
- v1.1.1 Maintenance Release
- General:
- o Fixed install/uninstall issues according to the "Designed for
- Windows XP" logo guidelines.
- o Added menu items for Theater for Camtasia Studio and Converter for
- Camtasia Studio.
-
- Recorder:
- o Added Effects > Options > Zoom > Show zoom rectangle during AutoZoom
- checkbox to allow users to turn this feature on/off as desired.
- o Fixed problem where Recorder would hang on some XP and TabletPC
- systems if recording audio (voice, cursor sounds, or keyboard sounds),
- the audio is NOT muted when recording begins, and the user clicks on
- the Recorder UI during recording.
- o Fixed a problem where unselecting the "Round frame size to a 4 pixel
- boundary" option and using the MS-MPEG V1/V2 codecs would create
- AVI files that could cause a crash on playback. Recorder now handles
- this case with an appropriate error message before recording begins.
-
- Producer:
- o Fixed frame counter discrepancy between using the forward and back
- buttons and using the left and right arrows on the keyboard. Using
- the keyboard sometimes caused the frame counter to be off by 1.
- o In the Audio Editor, removed an unnecessary warning message that
- appeared if the Audio Properties were changed before recording audio.
- o In the Audio Editor, File > Split > Save Audio As... was mistakenly
- disabled after a File > Split > Save Video As... operation.
- o Fixed a problem which would cause the top and bottom of a video to be
- clipped if the user produced at a smaller size, with a different
- aspect ratio, and "Stretch to fit" was not checked.
- o Fixed issue where the color picker dialogs weren't initialized with
- the currently selected color in the SWF advanced playback controls
- options dialog.
- o Fixed an issue where the slider range on the timeline would not update
- properly when audio was added to a still image.
- o Fixed an issue where the movie duration in the SWF advanced playback
- controls might display 00:00 / 00:00 for the entire movie the first
- time it was played after moving to a web server.
-
- Effects:
- o Fixed crash where after adding a new object, the object name was
- changed in the object list.
-
- MenuMaker:
- o If the user opened a template file (.CMMTPL) and then hit the save
- toolbar button (which is a shortcut for File > Save Project), the
- file that is saved is actually a project file, but the file name and
- file extension remained the same (.CMMTPL). This has been corrected.
- By design, the user is always editing a project (.CMMP) even if they
- begin the project from a template. At any point, the user can save
- their current project as a template using File > Save As Template.
- o When using File > Save As Template, spaces in the menu name are no
- longer replaced with underscores. This makes it easier to save a
- template with spaces in the file name.
-
-
- v1.1.0 Minor Release
- General:
- o After the 30 day trial is expired, Camtasia Studio will stop
- functioning until the software is purchased.
- o AVI files generated by 3rd party apps which have an incomplete header
- are now handled correctly.
- o Video and project files are now saved in a "Camtasia Studio" folder
- underneath the user's "My Documents" folder by default.
- o Fixed upgrade problem which was disabling TSCC compression in 3rd
- party apps in some cases.
-
- Recorder:
- o Stopping a recording with F10 now always brings the "Save Movie File
- As" dialog to the foreground.
- o Updated a couple shapes in the ScreenPad library.
-
- Producer:
- o Added configurable advanced SWF playback controls including a seek
- bar, fast forward, and rewind.
- o Added Edit > Crop to Selection feature. This feature allows the user
- to select the section of video they wish to keep and will cut anything
- before and after this selection.
- o Added production results dialog.
- o Added ability to set a default duration for images on the storyboard.
- o Allow user to cut a single frame.
- o Allow user to add audio to an image in the audio editor.
- o Allow user to maximize the audio editor window.
- o Added menu shortcuts for common operations in the audio editor.
- o Added a way to disable the delete confirmation in the audio editor.
- o Fixed problem where the timeline length was incorrect if the audio
- track was longer than the video track in an AVI.
- o Don't allow user to cut an entire AVI since this was causing
- unexpected behavior.
- o Fixed selection glitch if after a cut, the user drags beyond the end
- of the clip to the edge of the Producer window.
- o Warn user if a WMV profile uses a codec which is now missing from
- their system. This can occur after the user upgrades to Windows
- Media 9. In this case, these profiles are defunct and will not
- function correctly. The user should remove old profiles and create
- new ones if desired.
- o Added ability to select the recording source in the audio editor.
- o Added a recording level volume control in the audio editor.
- o Added Help menu to audio editor for easier access to the help file.
- o Fixed audio video sync problem in some cases when producing with a
- low frame rate.
- o Fixed problem in audio editor where the video did not resume playback
- after a record/pause/record sequence.
- o Improved error checking if an invalid file type is specified as the
- image to be used while the SWF file is downloading.
- o Fixed problem with "Pause at start" SWF production option not working
- when no playback controls were used.
- o Fixed problems with Edit > Audio Properties... in the audio editor.
- o Offer to create folder if it does not exist when producing a movie.
- o Fixed problem where Pack and Show would include the TSCC.exe codec
- installer AND the Camtasia Player. Since TSCC decompression is built
- into the Camtasia Player, including the TSCC.exe codec installer is
- not necessary in this case.
- o Shorten the image duration in Producer's timeline to match the length
- of the WAV in Audio2 when the image duration is longer than the WAV.
- o Fixed problem in audio editor where play/pause/record sequence would
- cause unexpected behavior.
- o Fixed problem where File > Save Frame As... would sometimes save the
- incorrect frame.
- o Fixed problem where the incorrect frame number might display if the
- audio extended past the end of an AVI which had been trimmed.
- o Fixed problem where editing an AVI with non-default audio format
- would cause the audio quality to degrade in the preview window and
- in the produced file.
-
- Effects:
- o Added ability to set a default duration for objects.
- o Added batch project production.
- o Toolbar buttons are now temporarily depressed while in use.
- o Fixed problem where changing object properties while editing a Text
- Shape caused an unexpected error.
- o Fixed problem where clicking on the object duration while editing a
- Text Box caused the text changes to be lost.
- o Fixed problem where Vector Text or Text Box objects were not updated
- correctly if the user clicked on the object list while editing the
- object.
-
- MenuMaker:
- o Added ability to specify supporting files for formats which require
- them (e.g. SWF and CAMV).
- o Added ability to add static text or blank lines to a menu. This
- allows the user to format the menu with headings and space indented
- video links.
-
- Player:
- o Added command line option to specify player position on screen.
-
- v1.0.1 Maintenance Release
- General:
- o Add 'Tour' button to Camtasia Studio launchpad pointing to the
- QuickStart videos on the TechSmith website.
- o Fixed some keyboard accessibility problems.
- o Fixed Help > Support > Save to File
-
- Recorder:
- o Fixed audio/video sync problems when the user enables audio recording
- or audio effects at some point after starting a recording session.
-
- Producer:
- o Improved undo support in the editing timeline.
- o Added cancel button to progress dialogs used for lengthy operations.
- o Changes to support Windows Media 9 series.
- o Fixed problem where audio cuts were not applied in the same place in
- the produced file as in the preview window.
- o Added "Preserve image size" option to Watermark dialog. Now both
- Recorder and Producer have this same option.
- o Better cleanup of temporary files used during audio editing.
- o Fixed problems with the way MP3 audio was put into the produced
- SWF file.
- o Changed the default audio format for Flash SWF production to be MP3
- 11kHz 16-bit mono, since we now correctly support streaming MP3 audio
- in our SWF output. 11kHz 16-bit mono is the lowest bitrate MP3 audio
- we support that has "acceptable quality".
- o Added a Pack and Show wizard to make the process of packaging movies
- more straightforward. Pack and Show now supports SWF and CAMV.
-
- Effects:
- o Improved handling of grouped objects.
- o Improved undo handling.
- o Fixed possible crash when grouping non-visible objects
- o Double clicking on object in TextShape Library now inserts the object.
- o Fixed problem where text could shrink.
- o Fixed crash caused by right-clicking in the object list while editing
- a text shape.
- o Fixed problem where the line width could change when resizing line
- based objects.
- o Fixed problem where the highlight color could not be set.
-
- MenuMaker:
- o Include all necessary files for playback of SWF and CAMV videos.
- o Added tree view of MenuMaker templates in the wizard to facilitate
- template add-on packs.
-
- v1.0.0 Initial version.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 5. KNOWN LIMITATIONS
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- o Camtasia Recorder generally cannot capture DVD video displays.
- o Camtasia Recorder cannot directly capture audio from other applications
- (e.g. Windows Media Player). However, it is sometimes possible
- to record this audio by placing the microphone near your
- computer's speakers, or by connecting "line out" to "microphone
- in" on your sound card.
- o Camtasia Recorder cannot capture video from applications on some systems
- that use graphics hardware acceleration for video playback
- (e.g. newer versions of Media Player and RealNetwork's
- RealPlayer). It is often possible to disable the graphics
- hardware acceleration.
-
- There are two ways to disable graphics hardware acceleration:
- 1. Disable graphics hardware acceleration globally for all applications
- using the Control Panel "System" applet. Go to the "Performance" tab
- and click the "Graphics" button under "Advanced settings...". Set
- the "Hardware acceleration" slider to None and hit OK. You may need
- to restart Windows to have this change apply.
- 2. Disable graphics hardware acceleration for a particular
- application. For example, in RealPlayer G2 select
- Options/Preferences from the RealPlayer menu. Go to the
- "Performance" tab and disable (uncheck) the "Use optimized
- video display" setting. You may need to stop and
- restart any movie being played to have the change take
- effect.
-
- Disabling the graphics hardware acceleration globally for all
- applications is probably the easiest way to "fix" the problem.
- Of course, with hardware acceleration disabled, video playback
- may not be as smooth as it could be with acceleration enabled.
-
