  6.    Version 3.30

  8.    1. New "Scan archive for viruses" command unpacks an archive to
  9.       temporary folder and checks its contents with antivirus software
  10.       installed on a user's computer.
  11.  
  12.    2. New "Generate report" command creates a report containing
  13.       the list of usual or archived files. You may optionally include
  14.       a file size, date and CRC to report, choose the sort order,
  15.       save report to file, send it to printer or copy to clipboard.
  16.  
  17.    3. New "Benchmark and hardware test" command allows to compare
  18.       performance of RAR compression algorithm on different computers
  19.       and detect possible errors caused by hardware failures.
  20.  
  21.    4. New "Print file" command is able to print both archived
  22.       and usual files.
  23.  
  24.    5. New "Tools" menu contains "Wizard", "Show information",
  25.       "Convert archives", "Find files", "Repair", "Convert to SFX"
  26.       commands previously available in "Commands" menu and new
  27.       "Scan archive for viruses", "Generate report", "Benchmark
  28.       and hardware test" commands.

  30.    6. WinRAR supports decompression of ZIP archives created using
  31.       "Enhanced deflate" method.
  32.  
  33.    7. WinRAR pre-allocates disk space for files unpacked
  34.       from ZIP archives. It helps to reduce disk fragmentation,
  35.       especially on NTFS disks. Previous versions did it only
  36.       for RAR archives.
  37.  
  38.    8. Now it is possible to decompress TAR, GZIP and ISO9660
  39.       archives of any size. Previous versions could not handle
  40.       files of these formats, if they exceeded 2 GB.
  41.  
  42.    9. Status bar displays the current operation progress,
  43.       when reading contents of large tar.gz and tar.bz2 archives.
  44.  
  45.   10. "Next volume" dialog allows to modify not only a name,
  46.       but also a size of next volume, so you may create volumes
  47.       of different size. This dialog is displayed if you create
  48.       volumes on removable disks or set "Pause after each volume"
  49.       option in "Advanced" part of archiving dialog.
  50.  
  51.   11. Several -v<size> switches can be specified in the command
  52.       line mode to set different sizes for different volumes.
  53.       For example, 'rar a -v100k -v200k -v300k arcname' command
  54.       sets 100 KB size for first volume, 200KB for second
  55.       and 300KB for all following volumes.

  57.   12. More WinRAR commands support Unicode in archive names.
  58.       If your Windows is NT based (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003),
  59.       you may modify archives with non-English names regardless
  60.       of Regional Settings.

  62.   13. Small and some of large icons have been updated by
  63.       Francesco Indrio.

  65.   14. "Diagnostic message" window can be resized. It preserves
  66.       new dimensions and restores them when activated the next time.

  68.   15. "Mode..." button in the archiving progress window allows to
  69.       change the compression method and "Turn PC off when done"
  70.       option on the fly.

  72.   16. WinRAR supports -cfg- switch in the command line mode.
  73.       It forces WinRAR to ignore options saved in the default
  74.       compression profile and RAR environment variable.

  76.   17. WinRAR opens .qpr and .qpk files (QNX packages) in one step,
  77.       like it already does for .tar.gz archives.

  79.   18. Extraction command proposes to browse for missing CAB file
  80.       in multivolume CAB sequence instead of "Cannot open" error.

  82.   19. "Rename" command displays a window with information about
  83.       processing files.

  85.   20. "Convert" command checks the lowest allowed ratio before
  86.       starting the archive test, so if resulting archive is too large,
  87.       WinRAR does not waste time to test it.

  90.       button now, so you may browse for excluded files instead of
  91.       entering their names manually.

  93.   22. WinRAR understands quotes inside of parameters in the command
  94.       line mode. For example, "-pmy password" and -p"my password"
  95.       will set the same password. Eariler WinRAR understood only
  96.       the first syntax ("-pmy password") and only the console RAR
  97.       handled both.

  99.   23. Data analyzing module is tuned to detect executable and audio
  100.       data more accurately. Erroneous selecting of executable
  101.       and audio algorithms could reduce the compression ratio
  102.       in some situations.

  104.   24. WinRAR understands the command line switch -hp without
  105.       a parameter and requests to enter a password when processing it.
  106.  
  107.   25. WinRAR preserves NTFS streams of updated archives, if archive
  108.       and temporary files are resided on NTFS partition. For example,
  109.       if you entered some comments in "Summary" section of archive
  110.       properties, they will not be lost when updating an archive
  111.       using WinRAR. Do not confuse NTFS streams of archive itself
  112.       and streams of archived files, latter can be preserved
  113.       by previous versions as well.

  115.   26. It is possible to prohibit change of archiving password
  116.       with "WinRAR\Policy\Password" Registry value. This feature
  117.       may help to avoid encrypting of important data in multi-user
  118.       environment. Read "Configuration settings/Registry variables"
  119.       help topic for details.

  121.   27. "Select toolbar buttons" dialog allows to specify separators
  122.       after any toolbar button.
  123.  
  124.   28. New console RAR -si[name] switch to compress data from stdin
  125.       (standard input).
  126.  
  127.   29. Console RAR 'vt' and 'lt' commands display symlink target names,
  128.       when listing RAR/Unix archives contained symbolic links.
  129.       These commands also display NTFS stream names, when listing
  130.       WinRAR archives contained streams.

  133.    Version 3.20
  134.  
  135.    1. Previous WinRAR and RAR versions stored only the file modification
  136.       time and only in DOS FAT format with 2 seconds precision.
  137.       While it was enough for FAT, modern file systems provide a higher
  138.       precision. Now RAR format can preserve modification, creation and
  139.       last access time with the precision up to 0.0000001 second.
  140.       The following changes had been done to support this facility:
  141.  
  142.       a) new "Time" part of archiving dialog includes "File time to store"
  143.          options controlling file time processing. Other time related
  144.          options also had been moved from "Backup" to "Time" section;
  145.  
  146.       b) new "Advanced" part of extraction dialog contains "File time"
  147.          options allowing to select time fields to restore;
  148.  
  149.       c) command line -ts<m,c,a> switch chooses time fields to process
  150.          and precision of these fields;
  151.  
  152.       Time precision provided by ZIP format is not changed and equal
  153.       to 2 seconds.

  155.    2. Changes in the extraction dialog:
  156.  
  157.       a) extraction dialog has been split to "General" and "Advanced"
  158.          parts;
  159.  
  160.       b) "Display files in Explorer" option in "General" part instructs
  161.          WinRAR to open Explorer window and display contents of
  162.          destination folder when extraction is done;
  163.  
  164.       c) "Save settings" button saves the current state of both parts
  165.          ("General" and "Advanced"). Saved state will be used as
  166.          the default when activating the dialog next time. WinRAR saves
  167.          all options except the destination path;
  168.  
  169.       d) "Advanced" part includes "File time" options allowing to
  170.          select time fields to restore;
  171.  
  172.       e) new "Set file security" option in "Advanced" part controls
  173.          restoring of NTFS file security information. Previous versions
  174.          always extracted this information.
  175.  
  176.    3. It is possible to rename files inside of RAR archives.
  177.       It can be done either with "Rename file" command in "Commands"
  178.       menu or in the context menu displaying on the right mouse click.
  179.       In the command line mode you may use 'rn' command for this
  180.       purpose.
  181.  
  182.    4. "Next volume" dialog allows to choose the disk or folder for
  183.       a new volume. WinRAR displays this dialog when creating volumes
  184.       on removable disks or if "Pause after each volume" option
  185.       is switched on. Previous versions did not allow to modify
  186.       the volume name here.
  187.  
  188.    5. "Test" and "Convert" commands can be applied to archives
  189.       directly from Explorer context menu. By default these menu
  190.       items are disabled, but you may enable them in WinRAR
  191.       "Settings/Integration/Context menu items..." dialog.
  192.  
  193.    6. "Pause" item added to context menu displayed on the right mouse
  194.       button click on WinRAR tray icon. So you may pause WinRAR minimized
  195.       to tray and continue it without restoring WinRAR to normal window.
  196.  
  197.    7. If one of SFX volumes is missing, SFX archive displays
  198.       "Next volume" dialog proposing to browse for required volume.
  199.  
  200.    8. WinRAR allows to resize the window containing results of "Find"
  201.       command. It saves modified window dimensions and restores them
  202.       when using "Find" next time.
  203.  
  204.    9. Toolbar:
  205.  
  206.       a) "Toolbars..." button in "Settings/General" activates the dialog
  207.          allowing to turn on or off the main WinRAR toolbar, the additional
  208.          small toolbar containing "Up one level" button and the address bar
  209.          with path or archive information;
  210.  
  211.       b) buttons may have a variable width. So few large button titles
  212.          in localized versions will not increase the total toolbar size
  213.          too much like it happened before;
  214.  
  215.       c) if the width of buttons exceeds the width of toolbar,
  216.          you may click on the small arrow at the right side of toolbar
  217.          and choose hidden buttons from the menu.
  218.  
  219.   10. Console RAR 'lb' and 'vb' commands list contents of archive
  220.       in the bare mode - file names without any additional information.
  221.  
  222.   11. WinRAR recognizes one more tar long file name extension
  223.       designed to overcome 100 characters file name limit in tar archives.
  224.  
  225.   12. Gzip archives contained zero in the file time field are processed
  226.       correctly. Previous versions could display random date values
  227.       for such archives.
  228.  
  229.   13. Recovery volumes:
  230.  
  231.       a) when creating recovery volumes, the required disk space
  232.          is preallocated in the beginning of operation. It helps to
  233.          minimize the disk fragmentation;
  234.  
  235.       b) console RAR displays the operation percentage when creating
  236.          recovery volumes or reconstructing missing or corrupt volumes.
  237.  
  238.   14. If "Save file security" option is enabled, folders will be
  239.       archived after files which they contain. It is necessary to avoid
  240.       the situation when security attributes of just unpacked folder
  241.       do not allow to extract files to it.

  243.   15. Optional description can be entered in "Add to favorite" dialog.
  244.       If such description is available, WinRAR will display it
  245.       in "Favorites" menu instead of folder or archive name.
