- ====================
- 1. PCI Configuration
- ====================
- The AVer TV-Phone card requires two system resources: one interrupt
- and a memory segment.
-
- AVer TV-Phone is a Plug-and-Play device. But since Windows 95 is not
- able to detect interrupt conflicts in all PCs, checking AVer TV-Phone's
- Plug-and-Play configuration is strongly recommended.
-
-
- 1.1 Checking TV-Phone Configuration
- ===================================
- After you have properly installed the AVer TV-Phone card into your
- computer, do the following to check its Plug-and-Play configuration:
-
- 1. Start Windows 95.
-
- 2. Click "Start", then "Settings", then "Control Panel".
-
- 3. Double-click on the "System" icon. Then, click the
- "Device Manager" tab.
-
- 4. Double-click on "Sound, video and game controllers". You
- will then see the "AVer TV-Phone Capture Device".
-
- If Windows 95 finds a conflict between your AVer TV-Phone card
- and another device in your PC, a little yellow circle with an
- exclamation point or an "X" inside will appear beside
- "AVer TV-Phone Capture Device". But as mentioned earlier, Windows 95
- may not at all times be able to find all interrupt conflicts.
-
- 6. Double-click on "AVer TV-Phone Capture Device" to call up its
- Properties window. Then, click the "Resources" tab.
-
- 7. Look for the Interrupt setting. If there is no interrupt showing,
- that means Windows 95 was unable to find an available interrupt
- for your AVer TV-Phone card.
-
- 8. If an interrupt appears in the Properties window, check and make
- sure that this interrupt is not already being used by a
- non-Plug-and-Play device.
-
-
- 1.2 Contention with Interrupts
- ==============================
- If your computer is installed with many devices, there might be no
- more free interrupts which your AVer TV-Phone card can use.
-
- In this case, check and see if there is any unused device which
- already has an interrupt reserved for it. For example, some computers
- may have two interrupts reserved for their two IDE channels, even if
- only one IDE channel is used in the systems.
-
- To free up an interrupt, follow the steps given below.
-
- 1. Go into the BIOS while the system is booting.
-
- 2. Disable the Peripheral that is not being used (for example:
- the secondary IDE channel)
-
- 3. Start Windows 95. Click "Start", then "Settings", then
- "Control Panel". Double-click on the "System" icon, and
- then click the "Device Manager" tab.
-
- 4. Highlight the device that is not being used. Then,
- click "Remove".
-
- 5. Reboot Windows 95.
-
- Check the AVer TV-Phone's Plug-and-Play configuration again.
-
-
-
- ==================
- 2. Graphic Drivers
- ==================
- The AVer TV-Phone card requires the use of a VGA card which has
- Windows 95 DirectDraw support. If your VGA card is not using this
- driver software, you will need to upgrade your VGA driver. Contact
- your local dealer to get an update to your VGA driver software.
- You may also download driver software updates from the Web sites
- of VGA card and chip manufacturers.
-
-
- 2.1 Error Message "No suitable DirectDraw provider"
- ===================================================
- Error message "No suitable DirectDraw provider" will appear if
- TV-Phone can not find a DirectDraw driver. In this case, you need to
- install DirectX 5.0 and upgrade your VGA driver. You can run the
- "DXSETUP.EXE" program from the supplied CD disc's
- "\DirectX5\Redist\Directx" directory to install DirectX 5.0.
- DirectX 5.0 includes several types of VGA drivers; it will upgrade your
- VGA driver if necessary.
-
-
- 2.2 Forcing Primary Surface Mode
- ================================
- Many new graphic controllers have the ability to accept video data
- and display it using a separate path called an "overlay surface".
- By default, the AVer TV-Phone card will take advantage of "overlay
- surface" support if the graphic controller driver supplies a DirectX 2
- interface. Under this mode, you will be able to view closed caption
- with video and live TV broadcasts on your computer screen.
-
- Sometimes, the user may need to force the AVer TV-Phone card to use
- the mode of operation of the VGA card, which is known as "primary
- surface" mode. Forcing the card to operate in this mode can be helpful
- in eliminating VGA card compatibility problems. You will not be able
- to view closed caption when the "primary surface" mode is being used,
- but you can still save the closed caption data to a file.
-
- If you need to change the mode of operation of your AVer TV-Phone card,
- run the "Surface Configuration" program. To run this program, click
- the "Start" button, choose "AVer TV-Phone" from the Programs menu,
- and then click "Surface Configuration". The Surface Configuration
- program window will then appear on your computer screen.
-
- To force AVer TV-Phone to use Primary Surface mode, click on the
- "Force Primary Surface" radio button, then click "OK".
-
- You can change back to Overlay mode anytime. Simply run the program
- again and choose "Attempt Overlay Surface".
-
-
- 2.3 VGA Compatibility
- =====================
- AVer TV-Phone is compatible with the following VGA cards:
-
- * S3 Trio 64V2, Trio 64V+, Trio 64, ViRGE, and Vision 968(Note)
- * ATI Mach 64(Note), 3D RAGE, and 3D RAGE II series
- * Cirrus Logic 5446
- * Matrox Millennium(Note) and Mystique(Note)
- * Tseng ET6000(Note)
- * Chips and Technologies 65550 (Note)
-
- Note: Compatible with "primary surface" mode only.
-
- 2.4 Overlay mode with 256 colors Issue
- =======================================
- If you choose "Attempt Overlay Surface" in "Surface Configuration" and your
- display mode is 256 colors mode, you can not see the live video. You can
- choose "Froce Primary Surface" or higher colors display mode.
-
-
- ================================================
- 3. All Channels Scan and Channel Remapping Issue
- ================================================
- You will need to perform All Channels Scan only if the default autoscan
- is unable to completely memorize all channels (i.e., if the frequencies
- of certain channels are not listed in the default frequency table).
-
- When you perform All Channels Scan, frequencies starting from 50 MHz to
- 800 MHz which correspond to active channels will be memorized. Each will
- be assigned to a channel number, starting from channel number 1 and onwards.
- If you need to change a channel back to its original channel number, use
- channel remapping to reassign the channel number.
-
-
-
- =======================
- 4. Volume Control Issue
- =======================
- You can adjust the volume only when your TV-Phone card is connected with a
- sound card. When the Volume Slider doesn't appear, it means that the TV-Phone
- cannot find a sound card or the sound card driver is not installed properly.
-
- Even after you properly install some sound card drivers into your system and
- the TV-Phone application's volume control slider appears adjustable, you may
- still be unable to control the TV or video volume via the application's TV
- Control Panel or the remote control. The reason is, some sound card versions
- may be incapable of properly implementing Windows' standard functions to
- control the volume via the sound card's Line-In (Aux-In) port. Contact your
- sound card dealer/retailer or visit their web page to get the newer driver
- version.
-
-
-
- =======================
- 5. Closed Caption Issue
- =======================
- If the closed caption function cannot be executed while the AVer TV-Phone card
- operates in overlay mode, please upgrade your VGA driver. Download the latest
- VGA driver version from the VGA card manufacturer's web page.
-
-
-
- ==================================
- 6. Known Bug Found in this Version
- ==================================
- Sometimes, there is conflict between the AVer TV-Phone application's TV Monitor
- and TV Control Panel. What will happen is, video will freeze if the TV Monitor
- (which is showing the video) is behind the TV Control Panel.
-
- To avoid this problem, the "Always on Top" option is selected by default,so
- that the TV Monitor will always appear on top of the TV Panel and your other
- applications.
-
- If the TV Monitor is Always on Top and you cannot access the TV Control Panel,
- press "ESC" or click the right mouse button on the TV Monitor to bring the TV
- Control Panel to the top. (The TV Control Panel will automatically pop up below
- the TV Monitor, and not on top of it.)
-
- This bug will be fixed in the next release.
-
-
-
- ========================================================

- Windows 95. Every time you installed the AVer TVPhone driver, a new entry
- is done. So you might have only one or you might have many entries.
- (4) Then click on Edit/Select All, and then File/Delete to delete these
- information files.
-
- For your next step, uninstall your existing AVer TVPhone driver :
