- 1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION!!!!!
- ===================================================================
-
- The default installation directory has been changed in this version from V3COM to
- V3CallCenter. If you are upgrading from an older version of CallCenter and you wish to
- keep your phone lists and fax logs, you MUST install directly OVER the old version.
- Your phonelists and logs will NOT be overwritten. If you are concerned about data loss,
- exit the installer now and make a backup of your V3COM/Phone and V3COM/Mailbox directories
- before continuing with the installation. If you install to a new directory you will not
- be able to access your original phonelists and logs.
-
-
-
- 2. IMPORTANT NOTES ON DISTINCTIVE RING AND CALLERID
- ====================================================
-
- DISTINCTIVE RING SUPPORT
- ------------------------
-
- Distinctive Ring is supported on modems which report true distinctive ring only.
- If your modem sends DRON and DROF signals instead of "RINGA", etc. for distinctive rings,
- then CallCenter will not support distinctive ring on your modem. You can see if this is
- the case by launching the DATACOMponent from the settings menu of CallCenter and creating
- a new terminal window by going into File/New... Select a "Direct to COM port" line. If
- one doesn't exist, create one from Modem Configuration... in the CallCenter. Call in
- and you will see the responses the modem returns.
-
- Configuration of Distinctive Ring is done via the Modem Configuration Dialog. To enable
- Distinctive Ring go to the Initialization Tab and turn on the feature. Then go to the
- Address Tab and setup how you would like each address to behave. For example, Address 1
- equates to RINGA or RING1. You can enable voice only or voice&fax, etc. and the number of
- rings to answer. Do this for each type of ring your phone supports.
-
- You must configure CallCenter as described above whether your line is a Window's Telephony
- line or a "Direct to COM port" line. If your line is a Window's Telephony line, make sure
- you go into the "Modem's" Control Panel Applet and enable the distinctive Ring feature
- from the Properties dialog.
-
- Every effort has been made to provide compatibility with all types of distinctive ring. If
- you are having trouble, please feel free to contact our support team at support@v3fax.com.
-
-
- CALLERID
- --------
-
- CallerID is supported on modems which also support the feature. CallCenter makes every
- effort to handle all forms of CallerID automatically and specifically attempts to grab the
- Name and Number fields as they come across the line.
-
- Configuration of CallerID is done via the Modem Configuration Dialog. To enable
- CallerID go to the Initialization Tab and turn on the feature.
-
- You must configure CallCenter as described above whether your line is a Window's Telephony
- line or a "Direct to COM port" line. If your line is a Window's Telephony line, make sure
- you go into the "Modem's" Control Panel Applet and enable the CallerID feature
- from the Properties dialog.
-
- Every effort has been made to provide compatibility with all types of CallerID. If
- you are having trouble, please feel free to contact our support team at support@v3fax.com.
-
-
- 3. IMPORTANT NOTES ON SPEAKERPHONE FUNCTIONALITY
- =================================================
-
- Speakerphone capability is supported on modems that have an external speaker and microphone
- jack built into the modem. Some modems have a cable (internal ususally) that connects
- directly to your soundcard (much like your CDRom does) which can allow speakerphone to work
- using a mic and speaker plugged into your soundcard. However, speakerphone will not work
- with modems that do not have either their own speaker and mic jacks or have an internal
- connection to the sound card. We are working to provide speakerphone functionality for
- those modems that only allow access through the sound card for the next release. We
- apologize for this inconvenience.
-
-
- 4. CHANGES AND BUG FIXES
- ===================================
- a. Changes Since v3.5.8
-
- 1. CallCenter is now fully Windows 2000 compliant. Sorry for the delays.
-
- 2. Fixed installation problems with printer driver installation on Windows95/98.
-
- 3. Overhauled modem detection routine. No more config file nightmares.
- CallCenter polls each modem extensively for its capabilities and does its
- best to configure itself for full support of the modem's features. Even though
- the modem may support a feature doesn't mean that CallCenter will support
- the feature. See the description of Distinctive Ring and SpeakerPhone below.
-
- 4. CallCenter now supports Windows Telephony Lines by default. You can still
- add "Direct to COM port" lines manually. NOTE: Some features, such as CallerID
- and Distinctive Ring may not work properly when CallCenter is connected to a
- Windows Telephony (TAPI) line. Make sure the you have properly configured the
- Telephony Line through the Control Panel "Modems" applet to turn on CallerID and
- Distinctive Ring if supported. You must also enable CallerID and Distinctive
- Ring within CallCenter for proper operation. This can be done from Modem
- Configuration...in the Initialization Tab and the Address Tab. If you are
- having trouble getting CallerID or Distinctive Ring working on a Telephony Line
- we suggest you create a "Direct to COM port" Line from Modem Configuration...
- and see if the features work.
-
- 5. CallCenter now has a system tray icon. Right click to see a menu.
-
- 6. Greatly improved voicemail compatibility for newer modems. CallCenter has
- been thoroughly tested on the following chipsets:
- Rockwell (all), Conexant, Motorola, Cirrus Logic, Lucent, USRobotics/3COM,
- Ambient. CallCenter voicemail will not currently work with PCTel, Exar,
- and Sierra modem chipsets.
-
- 7. Completely reworked Speakphone functionality. Speakerphone support is only
- available on modems that have speaker out and mic in jacks on the modem itself.
- Speakerphone will not work properly for modems that only provide speakerphone
- support via sound cards, however, we are working on this issue for the next
- release.
-
- 8. Fixed CallerID issues.
-
- 9. Fixed Distinctive Ring issues for modems that support true distinctive ring.
- Modems that report DRON and DROFF (instead of "RINGA") type signals will not
- work properly with distinctive ring. We are working on addressing this issue
- for the next release.
-
- 10. Fixed fax receive 117 error issue.
-
- 11. Fixed USR Wimodem garbled voice messages (also applies to other chipsets).
-
- 12. Fixed detail log printing.
-
- 13. Fixed Pager notification hanging up before page is sent.
-
- 14. Fixed issue with sorting by Date/Time in Log window.
-
-
-
- a. Changes Since v3.5.7
-
- 1. Substantial support for record and playback using a sound card.
- We support modems that handle PCM directly and those that use
- Rockwell 4-bit ADPCM and USR GSM 6.1.
- 2. Enhanced error detection and recovery to help ensure proper
- operation of voice modems.
-
- b. Changes Since v3.5.6
-
- 1. Modems are connected directly via the COM port rather than
- through TAPI be default. TAPI provides better COM port sharing
- between applications. Every effort has been made to ensure
- that when COMponents is connected to a modem via a TAPI line that
- all features are available. However, due to the complex nature
- of this technique we can't warrant perfect operation on all
- modems. See section 2a to learn how to enable TAPI for COMponents
- if you require COM port sharing. If you encounter difficulties
- we suggest you switch back to direct COM port operation by
- disabling TAPI line detection as described in section 2a.
- 2. We are proud to offer additional Internet based communications
- services with COMponents. Information on these services has been
- placed in the COMponents Group. Check it out to see the great
- services offered and for a free Internet phone conferencing
- trial.
-
- c. Changes Since v3.5.5
-
- 1. Added Call Center interface.
- 2. Added option to Debug Options dialog to disable TAPI line
- auto detection. If you are experiencing difficulties when
- using a TAPI line, TAPI auto detection can be turned off by
- opening the About box on the Options menu and then clicking
- on the Info button while holding the CTRL and SHIFT keys down.
- This will bring up the Debug options dialog allowing you to
- turn off TAPI auto detection. The next time the application is
- run, a direct line can be setup by selecting Line/Modem Setup
- from the Options menu.
- 3. Fixed occasional problem with line not being answered when
- ringing.
-
- d. Changes Since v3.5.4
-
- 1. Added support for USR 56K.
- 2. Fixed occasional GPF when starting COMponent Workspace
- or COMponent Server when running Dialup Networking patch
- or Windows 95 OSR2.
- 3. Fixed problem with multiple TAPI lines using same modem.
-
- e. Changes Since v3.5.3
-
- 1. TAPI lines more rubust under Windows 95. This fixes problems with
- corrupted fax images being received on the remote fax.
- 2. Fixed occasional lockup when removing multiple entries from
- the schedule queue during fax job completion.
- 3. Fixed occasional GPF during fax send using class 1 fax protocol.
- 4. Fixed re-dial attempts and status not being reset for individual
- destinations during fax re-send operations.
- 5. Fixed occasional GPF when dragging and dropping fax pages in Layout View
- of the VIEWCOMponent.
- 6. Fixed occasional index file corruption in phone list.
- 7. Playing and recording of voice messages more rubust through the
- Play/Record dialog.
- 8. Fixed WAV file playback when using long filenames.
-
- f. Changes Since v3.5.2
-
- 1. Fixed problem with receiving "Failure to Initialize" error
- during fax send operations.
- 2. Fixed problem with receiving "Invalid File Format" error
- when installing over previous version of COMponents.
- 3. Fixed problem with receiving General Protection Fault when
- closing COMponent Workspace or COMponent Server with multiple
- TAPI lines.
- 4. Fixed problem with support for multiple TAPI lines.
- 5. Fixed problem with fax send operations occuring while a
- DATACOMponent window open on the same line while in
- interactive mode.
-
-
- 2. NEW FEATURES
- ==================
-
- We have tried hard to include many requested features in this
- latest version. Here is a list of the major changes.
-
-
- a. TAPI Location/Dialing support
- ---------------------------------
- You can configure COMponents to look at your TAPI location
- setup when trying to calculate dialable phone number. Yes, it's true!
- This means that you can now use Credit Cards and the built in
- Toll list to your heart's content. Just go to Options/Location Setup...
- to configure your current location to use TAPI rather than our own
- built in location information! Which ever TAPI location you have
- setup as the default under Windows will be used when dialing using
- COMponents with this feature turned on.
-
-
- b. Multiple Selection in the Phone Lists
- -----------------------------------------
- Hard to believe, but the long awaited mulitple selection in phone lists
- has finally been implemented, once again, thanks to Scott. Now you
- really can highlight multiple entries and drag them onto a group all at
- once. You can also select multiple entries in the FaxWizard and create
- easy "on-the-fly" group sends.
-
-
- c. New and Improved user interface
- -----------------------------------
- Schedule Queue
- ==============
- The fax schedule queue has been improved to allow viewing of each
- destination in the send rather than the entire job only. This means you
- can now see the "real-time" status of any destination in a large job and
- get an overview of the status of all jobs. From the Queue window in the
- FAXCOMponent just double click to exand and contract jobs.
-
- FaxWizard - Destination Page
- ============================
- All keyboard/tabbing/Mnemonic issues have been resolved. Keyboard only
- users can now navigate the FaxWizard with much more ease.
-
-
- Line/Modem Setup
- ================
- One new page has been added for FAX32COMponents and two new pages have
- been added for TELECOMponents.
-
- Chipset Tab
- ===========
- Help on this new tab has not been implemented in the online help system
- yet so this is your primary source of information.
-
- The Chipset Tab allows the end user more control over how that Fax Protocol
- treats their modem. Normally these values are preset in our Config files
- (.CFG), but now that we support TAPI, we don't always have the proper
- information required about the hardware to make our Fax Protocol perform
- optimally. The settings in this dialog allow you to modify the Major and
- Minor chipset types that are used by our software internally.
-
- If you are having trouble with sending or receiving faxes using a TAPI line
- or a COMponents line for which we didn't supply an exact cofig file, you
- can play with these two values to see what combination works best.
-
- Ideally, you should select a Major Chipset number that most closely matches
- the model or type of modem you have. The Minor Chipset number is used to
- fine tune the behavior of the protocol. You'll just have to try different
- values to find what works best.
-
- Telephony Tab
- ==============
- Help on this new tab has not been implemented in the online help system
- yet so this is your primary source of information.
-
- The Telephone Tab allows you to fine tune the behavior of the Voice Mail
- subsystem. As with the Chipset Tab you should change these values only
- if you are having difficulty with VoiceMail or if we did not provide an
- exact config file for your modem and you are experiencing trouble.
-
- Select the closest match from each drop-down for your modem.
-
-
- d. Speed improvements
- ----------------------
- Speed improvements should be noticable especially in initialization and modem
- resetting. Also when queue up a large number of destinations for fax sending.
- For adding large groups (> 100 records) in the FaxWizard the speed is 11x faster
- at least!
-
- e. Enhanced .wav file conversion support
- -----------------------------------------
- For modems that support linear PCM (.wav) formats we support sound cards
- directly for both recording and playback. For USR/3COM and other modems
- that support USR GSM 6.1 we have a seamless converter built in. Also
- for modems that support Rockwell 4-bit ADPCM we have seamless converter
- built in.
