<p>When you create a transaction to sell investment shares of which you own multiple <glossary tNum="287031">lots</glossary>, Money uses the <glossary tNum="287000">first in, first out (FIFO)</glossary> method by default to determine which shares you sold. When stock prices are rising steadily, this method may minimize your capital gains taxes. However, you can choose a different method to determine which lots you want to sell.</p>

<li>On the <emph>Investing</emph> menu, click <emph>Portfolio</emph>.</li>
<li>Click the investment that contains the shares you want to sell.</li>
<li>Click <emph>New</emph>, and then in the <emph>Activity</emph> box, click <emph>Sell</emph>.</li>
<li>Enter the remaining information, and then click <emph>OK</emph>.</li>
<li>If you don't want to use the first-in, first-out (FIFO) method, click <emph>Let me specify which shares I want to sell or transfer</emph>, and then click <emph>Next</emph>.</li>
<li>Select the shares you want to sell using one of the following methods:</li>

<li>Click a lot, and then in the <emph>Enter shares to allocate from lot above</emph> box, type the number of shares.</li>
<li>Click a lot, and then click <emph>All</emph> to sell all of the shares in the lot up to the remaining shares needed.</li>
<li>Click <emph>Maximum Gain</emph>, <emph>Minimum Gain</emph>, or <emph>First Acquired</emph> to let Money help you decide which lots to sell.</li>

<li>Click <emph>Finish</emph>.</li>
