<p>You can use <glossary tNum="286967">classifications</glossary> to organize your finances in more detail. For example, if you own or manage rental property, you can keep track of transactions property by property if you assign each one a classification. If you were to use categories instead of classifications, you would need to create a number of subcategories.</p>

<li>Create classes and subclasses in the <emph>Categories and Payees</emph> area.</li>
<p>This will create a box directly beneath the category boxes in the transaction form of the account register where you can enter classification information.</p>

<li>On the <emph>Accounts & Bills</emph> menu, click <emph>Categories & Payees</emph>.</li>
<li>In the left pane, select either <emph>Classification 1</emph> or <emph>Classification 2</emph>.</li>
<li>Select a classification type or enter a new one, and then click <emph>OK</emph>.</li>
<li>At the bottom of the page, click <emph>New</emph>.</li>
<li>Select the class or subclass you want to add, and then enter a name for it.</li>
<li>Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have added all the classes and subclasses you need.</li>

<li>Go to the account register where you entered the transaction you want to classify.</li>

<li>In the class box, select the appropriate class.</li>
<li>In the subclass box, select the appropriate subclass.</li>

<p variant="note">You can enter a new class or subclass in the account register by typing its name in the appropriate box and clicking <emph>OK</emph>.</p>
