<tease>Why?</tease>
<reveal>
<p>You can use the <emph>Add Shares</emph> option to enter transactions quickly without entering a broker's commission. You may want to use this option if you don't have commissions, if you've bought several <glossary tNum="287031">lots</glossary> of an investment and don't want to enter the entire history of purchases, or if you don't know what the purchase price or commission was because the investment was a gift, prize, or inheritance. As long as you enter a price with each transaction, your investment records will be accurate whether your investment activity is a buy or you simply add shares.</p>

<p variant="impt">Entering accurate purchase data with prices and dates allows Money to calculate any capital gains or losses for this investment, as well as provide useful tax information and reports. If you don't enter a price when you add to your investment, Money assumes the price is zero and 100% of any proceeds from the sale are capital gains. This can result in your taxable income projections being calculated higher than they should be. However, in certain cases the cost basis may truly be zero and a 100% capital gain is accurate.</p>

<tease>Do I need to know the purchase price?</tease>
<reveal>
<p>You can leave the <emph>Price</emph> box blank and just enter the quantity. Money will assume the purchase price is zero. Your account balances will be accurate, but your tax and investment reports might overstate your potential tax liability.</p>
