  9. Please note that you have been provided with an Beta version of our 
  10. Viper Windows 95 driver.  By using this driver, you have accepted 
  11. responsibility for any issues that may develop with your computer 
  12. system once you have installed this driver.

  14. Please note the known driver limitations in this document. 
  15.  
  16. If you experience any problems or difficulties while using this driver,
  17. please complete the problem report (PDR.TXT)  located on this disk. You
  18. may fax the problem report (Attention:  Technical Support - Viper 
  19. Windows 95 driver) to 408-325-7171,  mail it to 2880 Junction Ave., 
  20. San Jose, CA 95134 or e-mail this document to any of Diamond's on-line 
  21. services. Please do NOT call Diamond's Technical Support for 
  22. difficulties you encounter.  Technical Support does not offer direct 
  23. support for this Beta driver.

  29. This is version 2.14B of the Windows 95 driver for the Viper series.  
  30. This is an accelerated driver. This driver currently supports the 
  31. following Diamond Viper display adapters:
  32.  
  33.         Viper Pro PCI & VLB
  34.         Viper SE PCI & VLB
  35.         Viper PCI
  36.  
  37.     Note: This driver does NOT currently support the Viper VLB. 
  38.     Support for this card will be added in a future release 
  39.     of the driver.

  42. Windows 95 Installation Notes
  43. ------------------------------
  44.  
  45. 1.    Click on the START button.
  46. 2.    Select the SETTINGS option.
  47. 3.    Choose the CONTROL PANEL.
  48. 4.    Open up the DISPLAY icon.
  49. 5.    Click on the SETTINGS tab.
  50. 6.    Press the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button.
  51. 7.    You should first select the Monitor Model to match your system.
  52.     If this is already done skip to the next step.
  53. 8.    Click on the CHANGE  button in the Adapter Type window.
  54. 9.    Press the HAVE DISK button.
  55. 10.    Insert the diskette, or path to the directory that contains the
  56.     Viper Windows 95 Drivers (e.g. the diskette in A: drive) and 
  57.     press <ENTER>.
  58. 11.    Choose the VIPER and bus type that corresponds to your video 
  59.     card adapter (e.g. VLB or PCI) from the list and then click on 
  60.     OK.
  61. 12.    The drivers will be installed and you will be returned to the 
  62.     main Settings window where you can select your preferred 
  63.     resolution and color depth. 
  64. 13.    After you have selected a mode you will be asked if the system 
  65.     can be restarted. Please restart the machine at this point.  
  66. 14.    The drivers are now installed.

  69. Known Issues
  70. ------------
  71.  
  72. Viper VLB: This driver does NOT currently support the Viper VLB. 
  73. Support for this card will be added in a future release 
  74. of the driver.
  75.  
  76. ALL CARDS: On installing the driver you may encounter scrambled or 
  77. corrupted toolbars or menu buttons. To resolve this issue, open the 
  78. "Display Properties" screen. Click on the "Diamond Viper" tab. Click 
  79. on the "Driver Options" button. Remove the check mark from the 
  80. "Host BitBlt" option in the "Accelerate GDI" section. Note: If the 
  81. problem persists, disable the other options under "Accelerate GDI" 
  82. until the problem stops. This problem is being investigated.

  84. Viper SE VLB 2MB with BrookTree 485 DAC:  Windows displays 
  85. black screen when using 800x600x32bpp.
  86.  
  87. Viper SE VLB 2MB with BrookTree 485 DAC:  Random screen corruption 
  88. in Adobe Illustrator 4.10.
  89.  
  90. Windows 95 VDD bug:  On VLB and some early PCI systems the BIOS setup 
  91. needs to have Shadow BIOS for the VGA Adapter region (C0000~C7FFF) set 
  92. to Write Protect, if available. This problem is noticeable if you open 
  93. a DOS session Full-Screen then press <ALT><ENTER> to return to Windows 
  94. and again <ALT><ENTER> to return to DOS Full-Screen. If the system then
  95. locks-up or gives a blue screen fatal-error message this means that the
  96. card's VGA BIOS has been overwritten and you must either enable Shadow 
  97. Write Protect, or altogether disable Video ROM-BIOS Shadowing. This 
  98. problem is caused by the Windows95 VDD and cannot be corrected in 
  99. future drivers.
  100.  
  101. ALL PCI:  Color palette shift in Mech Warrior 2 (Pentium Processor 
  102. Edition) when game starts.

  105. Known Limitations
  106. -----------------
  107.  
  108. Viper SE 2mb with BrookTree 485 DAC:  No 24 bit color option. This is a 
  109. limitation of the hardware.

  112. Issues Addressed and Features Added
  113. -----------------------------------
  114.  
  115. DirectDraw:  The driver now provides hardware acceleration and support 
  116. for Microsoft's DirectDraw API.
  117.  
  118. Acceleration:  Screen to Screen BitBlt's, Memory to Screen, Solid 
  119. Brushs, Patterned Brushes, Quads and TextBlts are now supported and 
  120. accelerated wherever possible.
  121.  
  122. WeitekCPLX:  The control panel has been extended to work with the new 
  123. Microsoft DisplayCard Driver interface method.
  124.  
  125. DPMS:  Was not asserting blanked video during shutdown (DPMS Level-3) 
  126. and thereby not fully switching off the monitor.
